Chapter 28
While waiting, Vanessa kept holding her phone and often glanced at the screen.
After a long time, Shawn finally replied leisurely.
"Where did I get it wrong?"
Vanessa took a deep breath and tried to calm herself down first.
"Nothing."
Shawn: Huh? What's on your mind?
Shawn: Make it clear.
Emily opened a package of snacks by the side. She stuffed her mouth with snacks and was lisping, "then guess what my leader did? He wanted to throw his mistakes on me."
Vanessa didn't pay attention to Emily's words. She gripped her phone and her teeth were aching.
Why didn't I control myself?
Why added that words?
Why couldn't both of us consider nothing had happened?
Vanessa: Just take it as if I didn't say. Happy new year.
"That's ridiculous. Why should I bear his mistakes?"
Emily didn't realize that she was talking to herself in quite excited tone at that moment.
"Who is counting on that job to make a living now? I can still support myself as a sales in any industry. Thus, I immediately sent the evidence and a resignation letter to boss by email. I don't need to work on the whims of him."
Vanessa glanced at the two messages she had just got, and then stared down at her phone, motionless.
Emily didn't get a response for a long time. As soon as she saw Vanessa's state, she knew what Vanessa was thinking without looking at her phone.
Emily suddenly felt that the girl in front was a babe in arms.
She dropped the snack and got up quickly, "I'll take a bath."
Shawn: Come on.
Shawn: If you don't tell me, I'll go to sleep.
Vanessa looked at the two lines, her hands trembling slightly, and her cheeks turning red slowly.
Shawn was on purpose absolutely!
He pretended he didn't understand.
The others drew inferences from one instance, while he drew inferences from three hundred instances.
Vanessa: It's nothing. You're so annoying.
Vanessa: I didn't think too much, just to prevent you from thinking too much.
Vanessa: I'm going to bed. Bye.
She threw away her phone, grabbed a pillow and fell onto the sofa.
The fireworks show outside had come to an end, but the thick night sky was still illuminated by gorgeous lights.
Vanessa opened her eyes wide and stared at the moon hanging in the sky. Her ears were burning.
The hazy clouds covered the moonlight for a while, and the faint light came out. After a while, the clouds were blown away by the wind, and a curved moon was clearly outlined in the night.
After the uproar, the city finally fell silent.
Seen from the perspective of Kiabo garden, the river was sparkling.
Shawn put his legs on the stool with his eyes closed, and drank a little of the wine at hand.
Until there was no message on the phone, he got up and walked to the bedroom.
___
In the early morning of the first day of the new year, someone set off firecrackers downstairs, and the crackling noise woke Vanessa and Emily up.
"Who set off firecrackers? This is the new year's day, not the Spring Festival!"
Emily opened the window to scold, but when she looked down, she could see no one except the residual fireworks.
"They had no manners. I'll call the police next time. It's illegal to set off firecrackers in the city. Don't they understand?"
When she calmed down after getting up, she turned around and found that Vanessa was still sitting at the bed. Vanessa's eyes were dull and her hair was in a mess, as if she had been ravaged all night.
Emily hacked and said, "go back to sleep."
"Forget it." Vanessa rubbed her hair, got out of bed and went to wash up. After that, she went back to her room, turned on her phone and computer, and sent New Yer greetings by email or Whatsapp to the interviewees one by one, regardless of whether they were still in touch.
It is her habit to send blessings during new year and festivals in order to maintain the information resources.
Emily sat on the bed and looked at her silently for a while. She asked, "what are you doing?"
"Leave me alone."
Vanessa looked at the computer screen carefully, checking word by word, for fear that she might miss the punctuation mark.
What happened last night caused her great psychological trauma.
Apart from Shawn, if she made mistakes to others, she would close herself off.
Seeing that Vanessa sent many emails and was typing on her phone, Emily couldn't help asking, "are you sending messages to Shawn?"
Vanessa was stunned and showed Emily the phone screen specially.
"No, I'm sending messages to my friends."
"Fine." Emily kicked her legs on the bed before getting up. When she passed Vanessa, she patted her shoulder, "hold on, then you can win. Just ignore him these days. Let's have fun."
Then Emily went to the bathroom to wash up.
Vanessa swiped the screen and found that the chat history with Shawn was still in the embarrassing moment last night.
Even if Emily didn't say it, she wouldn't talk to Shawn these days.
The first people Vanessa sent a blessing by Whatsapp was Theo Sanchez.
Ten minutes later, Theo replied a voice message.
"Happy new year, too. It's time for a holiday, isn't it?"
Vanessa: Well, we have a normal holiday this year.
Looking at her words, Theo felt that the young girls were working hard nowadays and they worked overtime all year round in all industries, which was no easier than he thought. Therefore, he said, "then have a good rest. If you have time, you are welcome to the horse farm. You need to exercise more. Body is the capital of the revolution."
Vanessa: Okay, I will come if I have a chance.
Vanessa: Thank you, Theo.
Theo: You can just go there at will. There is always someone taking care of the horse farm.
Emily just brushed her teeth and leaned out. She heard a vague voice message and asked, "what kind of horse farm?"
Vanessa said, "Do you know Theo Sanchez? He was the one the investment teacher often mentioned before."
"I have some impression." Emily said vaguely with the toothbrush in her mouth, "was that him just now?"
"Yes."
Emily was not surprised that there was such excellent people in Vanessa's friends circle. She nodded and went on to wash up.
When Vanessa finished sending messages to everyone, it was already very late.
They made up together and had takeout at home, then went out at noon.
During the New Year's Day holiday, every dining place was full of people, let alone the shopping center.
Vanessa and Emily felt terrified when thinking of the huge crowds of people and the shoes squeezed out. They didn't like the lively places, so they tacitly decided not to suffer.
"Or go to the University of Finance and Economics." Emily said, "it was very late after dinner yesterday, and we couldn't get in. There were just a few people in the university today, let's go to see if there were any changes."
As soon as they talked, they immediately took a taxi to the University of Finance and Economics.
These two days, they had never been to the crowd.
When they went to the university, they happened to see students holding the music festival on the playground. They watched it all afternoon and took a lot of photos.
The next day, they spent the afternoon watching movies and making nails. In the evening, they went to the riverside to watch fireworks and have a snack. They had two leisure and comfortable days, which was the holiday they imagined.
However, during this period, Emily had been instilling an idea into Vanessa.
"You should be restrained and let him wait. It's best to let him worried."
Emily sat at the food stall, and said calmly, "don't send messages, and send more posts, understand?"
Vanessa was sorting out the photos taken in the past two days. Hearing Emily's words, she was not very confident.
"As if you have a lot of experience."
"I have more experience than you. Well, we are different. If I fall in love with a man, I have to seduce him in most situations."
She thought for a while, and asked, "did he contact you these two days?"
Vanessa shook her head, "no."
Then she added, "that's how he is."
"Hum."
Emily sniffed, "just let him wait. I don't believe it. He'll be worried when he sees your post later."
During this moment, Vanessa just sent nine photos on her social platform, all of which were taken by them in recent days.
After a while, there were dozens of comments and likes.
Vanessa put down the chopsticks and checked one by one, but she didn't see the comment from Shawn.
On the contrary, Shawn sent a financial news a minute ago.
Vanessa thought that this action might have little effects on the people like Shawn.
"See, it was useless for Shawn."
___
The whole New Year's Day holiday was of no special significance to Shawn.
But Barron was miserable.
Originally, Barron thought Shawn had returned back suddenly, and he just needed to attend a dinner in the Bostabaca, then there was nothing important to do, so he planned to spend the holiday in the N city. Unexpectedly, Shawn didn't have anything to do seemingly after he returned, and he arranged a lot of work for Barron.
Fortunately, on the last day, someone finally made an appointment with Shawn, so the video conference was postponed, and Barron could have a good rest.
It was nothing important. Theo Sanchez was back.
Finley Sanchez followed Theo Sanchez's temper. He kept a low profile and didn't have the habit to ask people welcome and treat him. He went home silently and adjusted to the time difference. It was not until the third day that he wanted to come out, so he called Shawn.
The holiday was noisy, but he liked to be quiet, so he made an appointment with several friends to get together at his horse farm.
They came to the horse farm mainly for comfort. The weather was fine, and the winter sun shone on them warmly, which made them relaxed.
As soon as Shawn arrived, he saw them sitting on the reclining chairs, unrestrained, completely putting down their usual dignity.
He said hello to some friends, and didn't insert their topic. He sat down, took off the sunglasses and rubbed the bridge of his nose.
In the blurred vision, the open grassland was just a dry green. Shawn closed his eyes without looking at the phone or chatting with his friends. It seemed that he was resting.
After sitting for a while, the friends chatted happily, but Shawn didn't talk. Finley felt something was wrong and asked, "What's the matter?"
"Nothing."
Shawn had no expression and looked as if he was not interested in anything.
He stretched out his legs and looked at the green grassland ahead. Several horses were eating grass leisurely.
__
After chatting for a while, Finley suddenly thought of something. He ran to the dressing room, and took out a wooden box.
"What's this?"
The friends asked one after another.
"I can't bear the turbulence of the stock market."
Finley didn't keep them guessing. He opened the box and there were several jade Buddhas.
"Seeing more and more of the world, I believe in Buddhism more and more. I went to the mountain and ask for the jade Buddhas devoutly.
Some friends laughed and some friends joined in with Finley.
No matter what age, there are always people who are in awe of superstition.
Finley happily went to Shawn and asked, "what are you thinking of? Why are you absent-minded?"
Shawn didn't answer his questions and said, "what's up?"
Finley put the box in front of him, and said, "Choose one. In our business industry, the change of mentality is like taking roller coaster."
Shawn glanced at the box without any interests, and picked one, "do you really believe in this?"
Finley said seriously, "anyways, just for psychological effects."
"Really?" Shawn turned over the jade Buddha, there was a "wish comes true" engraved on the back.
He put on his glasses, and said with a smile, "will I have what I want?"
Finley replied, "yes, it can be understood like this."
As the voice fell, Shawn raised his eyes and suddenly saw a familiar figure in front of him.
Walking briskly, coming this way.
Shawn tightened his fingers and grasped the Buddha in his palm.
