Chapter 27
The traffic on the New Year Eve was even more congested than before, and the cars were going slowly like a turtle.
After Vanessa left, Shawn leaned back against the chair and took off his glasses, resting with his eyes closed.
On an over ten-hour flight, it was difficult to feel completely comfortable when taking a rest even in the first class. And Shawn was very picky about the environment, and he almost hadn't rested all day.
And today the driver must have been thinking about the holiday, so that he forgot to ask Shawn where to go until driving for a while.
The young people almost all went out for fun on the New Year Eve, which made the city extremely lively.
There was nobody in the Yeats residence this night.
Shawn chose to return to his home at Kiabo Garden.
With the lights on, his home was bright, but there was no breath of life there.
He took a shower, changed into comfortable clothes, and stayed in the study for a while. He had wanted to turn on the computer to deal with some work, but he got many blessing mails from his partners in the mailbox.
So he suddenly didn't want to bother about his work. He poured a glass of wine and sat on the balcony.
Buildings in the CBD were lit up, and slogans to welcome the New Year were shown on the LED screen.
There was neon flashing and busy traffic. How lively it was!
But Shawn was not in the mood for it.
In fact, the decision of going home was made twenty-four hours ago this time.
At that time, the business had been dealt with, and the partner company held a grand dinner party. They also invited famous actors to attend to show sincerity.
But Shawn was not interested, and after resting for a while in the hotel, he called Barron over and asked him to attend the party on behalf of Memorial Group.
And Shawn took a flight back immediately.
The journey from the hotel to Bostabaca International Airport was long, but it did not seem long because he could take a nap in the car.
But after Shawn got on the plane, looking at the expressions of the travelers in the cabin, he was suddenly confused.
What was the reason that he suddenly wanted to return to his country?
The answer seemed to be very clear at this time. It was no more than the woman who had pasted many small stars onto his cell phone.
Shawn felt it was better to go back to see Vanessa act instead of drinking with the actors.
Vanessa was not good at acting in front of him, but she herself might not think so.
So Shawn had never treated her as a simple woman.
She took the initiative to get close to him and later pretended to be crazy and foolish, which revealed her desire all the time.
Although she did not clearly express what she wanted now, she must want something from him.
Shawn never doubted that.
Shawn had seen many people who approached him with a purpose, male or female, some aiming at him, some at his father, his brother-in-law, or even his friends.
These people all had the same qualities. They were all sociable, sophisticated, and knew how to get what they wanted.
And Vanessa was at most the poorest student among them.
However, she was not aware of that, thinking herself good at it.
But strangely enough, such purposefulness with her cuteness in nature turned out to be sugar-coated, making Shawn willingly taste it again and again.
Unlike Kiabo Garden, the restaurant outside the University of Finance and Economics was overcrowded, and there was a long queue at the door after eight o'clock.
Fortunately, Vanessa had booked a table earlier so that they could get in as soon as they arrived.
The two of them sat at a small table with the dishes occupying almost all of the table.
The dishes were steaming. Emily finally got the food she had been longing for and started to gobble, making her face red.
When they got their taste buds satisfied, the two began to chat while eating.
Seeing the legendary uncle in Vanessa's mouth today, Emily was amazed, and the topic was naturally him.
She thought of something, took out her phone, and browsed Jackson's Facebook.
"Do you know I have not blacklisted him so far because I can get to know what he and his mistress will do? You did not know after he began to post the picture of his mistress, our former friends at the university did not give him thumps-up. When he posted pictures of you in the past, many people liked them."
As she was talking, she found that Jackson had posted a picture again.
He only posted a photo of him and Bianca together without any text like before.
Looking at this photo, Emily supported her chin, frowned, and shook her head.
"The mistress and her uncle were born in the same family with some same genes, but how can she look like this?" She tsked twice. "If she looked like her uncle a little, our former classmates would not be so shocked, or not even dare to give him likes because they are afraid to admit their former classmate, Jackson, has such poor taste as if he lost his mind."
She chattered a lot of complaints but found that Vanessa did not pay attention to her at all.
When she looked up, only to find Vanessa was biting her fork. She did not know what she was thinking about.
"Hello?" Emily reached out and waved her hand in front of Vanessa's eyes. "Are you listening to me?"
Vanessa suddenly came back to her senses, raised her eyes to look at Emily, and laughed out loud.
Emily looked confused. "What's wrong with you?"
"You know what? Actually, before I got off the car today, Shawn said something to me." Vanessa put down her fork, cupped her face, and said with a smile, "He asked me why I hadn't told him earlier that I had a friend to come over for New Year."
In this regard, Emily was much more experienced than Vanessa and understood what he meant instantly.
She clapped her hands and concluded, "He has a thing for you. He definitely has feelings for you. He originally intended to spend the holiday with you, but my appearance disrupted his plan."
Vanessa nodded hard. "That's what he meant, right?"
"Yes, definitely."
Emily was happy for her friend, and only after a while did she think of herself. "Then you're not going to leave me alone and spend the holiday with him, are you?"
Vanessa chewed the beef in her mouth and did not speak.
"I'm telling you, Vanessa, you can't do this to me. We've been friends for many years. If you dare to leave me on this holiday, we'll never be friends any longer."
Emily suddenly felt excluded, but she was reluctant to accept it. She knocked at the table and said seriously, "And at this time, you have to be reserved. Take it slowly, understand?"
After saying that, Emily felt that she was talking nonsense.
Vanessa had tried so hard to hit on Shawn that any onlooker couldn't bear it. How could she expect her to take it slowly?
Vanessa casually waved her hand. "Don't worry. I definitely won't leave you behind."
With Vanessa's promise, Emily was slightly relieved.
After the meal, the two planned to go to the most lively pedestrian street in Lantrie to celebrate the New Year, but when they arrived there at nine o'clock, there were too many people. To avoid an accident, the traffic police began to carry out traffic control, and they were not allowed to get in.
But the two of them didn't care much about it. They bought some snacks and wine and went home.
Sitting comfortably at home and chatting was a good way to get relaxed.
As they were laughing, Vanessa subconsciously glanced at her phone. Seeing a new message, she immediately opened WhatsApp.
It was a blessing message from a friend in high school.
Vanessa read it, replied "Thank you", and threw away her phone.
When she stayed with Emily, time always passed away fast, even though the two of them were just sitting together chatting.
It was not until the brilliant fireworks outside the window lit up the room and shone on their faces that they looked outside.
The city was instantly abuzz. With lights and fireworks, the night sky was illuminated.
During the time of getting together, both of their cell phones began to vibrate continuously. Wishes from their friends came one after another.
But most of them were also mass texting.
In the list of more than a hundred new messages, Vanessa keenly caught Shawn's.
She almost missed it.
What he sent was very simple.
"Happy New Year."
Vanessa pondered for a moment and seriously wrote a reply, "Is it a... mass texting?"
Just three words, it was too perfunctory.
But before he could reply, she added, "It's okay if it's a mass texting."
Vanessa crossed her legs and sat on the edge of the bed, smiling weirdly with her lips pursed and focused on typing on her phone.
Vanessa wrote, "It's also my honor to be in the group of Mr. Yeats' friends, so I guess I already have an unusual status in your heart."
Vanessa wrote, "Although there are only three simple words, it is more precious than anyone else's wishes."
Vanessa wrote, "I'm so apprehensive and nervous now. I don't know what kind of wish I have to reply to Mr. Yeats' three words."
Shawn replied, "Do you have nothing to do?"
Vanessa replied, "..."
Seeing her seriously fixed on her phone, smiling for a moment, and looking expressionless for another moment, Emily came over to take a look and rolled her eyes speechlessly.
"You should play cool and ignore him!"
Just as she finished her words, a new message came in.
Shawn said, "Aren't you celebrating the holiday with your friend? How can you have time to think so much?"
Emily kept saying to her ears, "Don't reply. Really! Don't make him think you're easy to get. We rarely meet. Can't we chat?"
After thinking about it, Vanessa thought her words make sense.
Emily said again, "Tell him you are going to sleep."
Vanessa answered, "It's just twelve o'clock. Who will believe it?"
Emily taught her with a helpless look. "Why do you care whether he believes it or not?"
Vanessa nodded her head, seeming to understand, and typed a few words.
Vanessa wrote, "Would you believe me if I say I'm going to bed?"
After she that message out, there was no reply from him for a long time.
Vanessa continued to chat and drink with Emily.
Suddenly, something flashed through Vanessa's mind. She immediately grabbed her phone and read the last message she had sent carefully.
Her expression instantly froze.
She pursed her lips and typed rapidly.
Vanessa wrote, "It's not an invitation! Please don't get me wrong!"
