Chapter 12
Early in the morning, just after the rain had stopped, everyone from the magazine agency came to work one by one. They shook their umbrellas and patted their clothes as they entered, bringing a chill.
Vanessa Green hadn't slept well last night. When she woke up in the morning, she found herself a little haggard. Then she put on a mask for a while. So, she left the house late and walked into the office. She was almost late for work.
She was a little tired and completely unaware that Sophia Yost had looked at her several times.
Although Sophia Yost had no proof, she always felt that the person who stayed at Shawn Yeats's house last night was Vanessa Green.
It wasn't until noon when Sophia Yost went downstairs to get the lunch that the nanny had brought her that she heard a few people gossiping in the lounge area.
"Vanessa Green is too miserable, isn't she? She's had her manuscript returned several times by Mingyu."
"I don't know if she's offended someone."
"I'm sure she did, her manuscripts are of high quality and have never been sent back by anyone."
"I see that she takes her computer with her every day after work these days, so I guess she has stayed up too late."
"Yeah, it feels like she has lost a lot of weight, it's too miserable."
Sophia Yost thought carefully for a few minutes.
She knew very well that Shawn Yeats had arranged for her to come here because she had gone too far with the graduation thing. He wanted to suppress her a little.
Since he wanted her to practice, he naturally wouldn't let others know her identity and background. Her identity and background were only known to a few senior executives at the magazine.
If not, she would just be a princess in a different place and do whatever she wants.
However, it was not a matter of not following the principles.
The status of the Shi Family and the status of the Shawn Yeats would not allow such a thing to happen. He was used to being above and beyond the others. So, naturally he would not allow anyone to treat his little niece so harshly.
That day, she hadn't been acting miserably at home to target Vanessa Green, she just wanted to walk out of this place.
But this result now at least showed that Shawn Yeats was still protecting her.
Sophia Yost breathed a long sigh of relief, and at that moment the boredom within her heart brought about by going to work dissipated quite a lot.
At the same time, she was sure that the person who was at Shawn Yeats's house last night was definitely not Vanessa Green.
---
After that the interview about Shawn Yeats was approved, Vanessa Green finally felt a little relaxed. She then sent messages to Shawn Yeats when she had nothing to do.
For several days, she said good morning, good afternoon and good night to Shawn Yeats every day, without missing a beat.
When she had nothing to do, she would chat with him for a few moments.
Though he didn't reply.
So, Vanessa Green gave him a new name.
The Illiterate Who Could Not Type.
This was a good way to comfort herself, and she felt much better.
After the regular meeting in the afternoon and the work report, Zoie Lopez said that there was a launch event at Mondred Bank the day after tomorrow.
"Vanessa Green, you're going to the launch event."
Vanessa Green asked Zoie Lopez, "Who will be there?"
Zoie Lopez flipped through the information on his computer and gave her a list of names.
There was Shawn Yeats in the list.
This should be the first public launch that Shawn Yeats attended.
Vanessa Green immediately nodded with a smile and said, "Okay."
When the meeting adjourned, Zoie Lopez added, "Vanessa Green, take Sophia Yost with you when you go to the launch party."
Vanessa Green agreed.
However, when she went to inform Sophia Yost, she obviously felt that she was reluctant.
Vanessa Green actually didn't understand why a rich girl like Sophia Yost had to come to work in such a poorly paid company.
What's more, she didn't understand why she had to force herself to come to this launch.
In fact, if she really didn't want to go, she could just tell Zoie Lopez.
Zoie Lopez had always been a very nice boss to talk to.
Not only did Sophia Yost's whole body exude a sense of resistance when she attended the launch event, she was also dressed in black. So, those who didn't know would think she had come to attend a funeral.
Among the many people at the launch, Sophia Yost's outfit was particularly conspicuous.
As soon as she walked through the door, she froze.
She had been careless.
She thought that black wouldn't draw attention to herself.
There were more reporters than usual here today, among whom were mostly men.
Vanessa Green was standing in the back row and her view was blocked by the heads of the people in front of her. She then took Sophia Yost to walk towards the front row.
"What are you doing?" Sophia Yost was flustered but did not dare to speak up, "Aren't there seats behind here? What do you want to do in the front?"
Vanessa Green, "I can't hear what they are saying in the back row."
"No, hey, you ......"
Sophia Yost did not dare to make a big move and could only let Vanessa Green tug her forward.
As soon as these male reporters saw Vanessa Green, they made way for her.
There were even two men who gave up their seats in the first row to them.
As soon as she sat down, Vanessa Green looked up towards the podium before she put her things down.
There were seven nameplates on the blue and black table.
The one in the middle was engraved with the words "Shawn Yeats".
Vanessa Green let out a long breath, feeling relaxed.
Someone was happy and someone was sad.
Sophia Yost hated these events the most. It was because such events were boring and dull. It was more hypnotic than lullabies. Listening to the launch was like listening to a book from heaven, she couldn't understand a single word.
That's why she didn't want to sit in the front row. Then she wouldn't be found by Shawn Yeats when she dozed off.
The venue was spacious, yet packed with people. And there was constant chatter all around.
Finally, the launch officially began with the MC's introduction.
The doors to the inner arena were opened and the podium was brightly lit as Shawn Yeats came striding in. His stance was tall and erect.
The photographers had the sharpest vision. And the moment Shawn Yeats appeared, their nerves were naturally mobilized, with the shutter sound of the four cameras rising and falling. They were chasing after each other, vying to capture the shot.
He sat down in front of the crowd and looked down to check his watch.
When he looked up again, he looked straight at the first row.
There was an eye contact between them for the moment.

Vanessa Green met his gaze, but her eyes did not dodge. She looked straight at him.
After just a moment of staring at each other, Shawn Yeats raised his eyebrows and his gaze drifted lightly elsewhere.
He had no emotion.
Vanessa Green sighed silently.
The other attendees entered one by one, and the scene was very silent except for the sound of the shutter.
Vanessa Green looked down, opened her computer and set it on the desktop. When she looked up again, she saw that Shawn Yeats was looking at his mobile phone.
Vanessa Green immediately took out her phone to text him.
Vanessa Green texted him, "Mr. Shi is super handsome today!".
"Super handsome!".
"Today's venue is not a press conference, it's your charm conference!".
Vanessa Green was thinking: Although I can't speak at this moment, I'm already screaming for you inside my heart!
Four text messages were sent in quick succession.
Vanessa Green quietly raised her eyes and saw that Shawn Yeats was frowning slightly.
He really did see it.
Vanessa Green grabbed her phone and typed again.
Vanessa Green texted him: I would rather suffer anything than to see you frown.
After sending it, Vanessa Green saw that Shawn Yeats did not frown.
He directly put his phone on the table.
"Pfft ......"
Vanessa Green suddenly felt very relieved, and the corners of her mouth curled up in a small arc.
Only before she had a chance to reel in her smile, she raised her eyes and met Shawn Yeats's gaze.
This time, he no longer had a light gaze.
The frame of the mirror penetrated his cool light, and the eyes behind the lens were deep and dark. He stared at her intently. A sense of oppression invisibly lingered around Vanessa Green, with a sense of warning.
Vanessa Green suddenly wimped out. The curvature of her lips disappeared and her head dropped.
She was like a schoolboy who had been caught doing a prank and was waiting to be disciplined.
The press conference started as scheduled.
Shawn Yeats was the first to speak, but there was no question session for his speech. So, once he finished, the executive beside him started a new round of speeches.
Vanessa Green typed rapidly, glancing at Sophia Yost beside her in between. But she saw that her head was hanging, her cheeks was a little red. She was very nervous.
"What's wrong with you?" Vanessa Green asked in a low voice, "Not feeling well?"
Sophia Yost darted a quick glance at the podium, "I'm fine."
"If you're not feeling well, tell me."
Vanessa Green leaned her closer, "Or are you not used to such occasions?"
Sophia Yost was a little annoyed, but she couldn't deny that she was nervous now. So, she frowned and said, "Mr. Shi is looking at me, and I'm somehow a little scared."
Hearing this, Vanessa Green looked up. Her gaze really collided with Shawn Yeats's once again.
It seemed that he didn't mind that Vanessa Green noticed that he was looking at her. There was no change in his expression.
"Don't be nervous." Vanessa Green patted Sophia Yost's hand, "It's me he's looking at."
Sophia Yost, "?"
She was quite confident.
---
The launch party was indeed long and dull.
Sophia Yost was sleepy and nervous, she couldn't understand what these people were saying at all. And she was torn between wanting to sleep and not daring to sleep.
After almost an hour, she couldn't take it anymore and told Vanessa Green that she didn't feel well and had to go outside to get some air.
Vanessa Green did not stop her. Soon, the seat next to Vanessa Green was empty.
A male reporter who had arrived late without a seat had been standing in the aisle for a long time. And when he saw that someone was leaving her seat with her bag, he bowed his back and came over.
"May I ask if there is anyone else sitting here?"
Vanessa Green felt that Sophia Yost was not going to come back, so she shook her head.
The male reporter sat down, looking at Vanessa Green who was concentrating on typing at the side from time to time.
Another half hour passed and it was time for the journalists to ask questions.
Most of the journalists' questions were meaningless and long-winded, and many people on the stage were impatient to hear them.
The male reporter next to Vanessa Green took a look at the badge hanging in front of her. Probably due to the angle, he couldn't see the name, but only the title Financeweek. So, he asked her, "You're a reporter from Financeweek?"
"Hmm." Vanessa Green nodded her head. Only after typing a paragraph did she look sideways at him and ask him politely, "And you?"
"I'm a reporter from Lantrie Journal." He laughed, "I was an intern at Financeweek when I first graduated."
Vanessa Green said, "Got it."
The male reporter's fingers nervously touched the keyboard and then asked, "At that time, my team leader was Zoie Lopez, do you know him?
"Well, she's also the editor-in-chief now."
"Oh, she's editor-in-chief now?" The male reporter murmured, "My name is Henry Blackwell, and you?"
"Vanessa Green."
"Well, thanks."
"Let's add each other in What's app. We can tell each other any information in the future."
After saying this, the host announced an intermission. So Vanessa Green turned to talk to him, "Um, okay."
This kind of daily social interaction, which also involved work interests, was an additional channel for socializing and connections, so Vanessa Green naturally wouldn't refuse.
She took out her phone and asked as she turned on her Whatsapp, "Do I scan yours or do you scan mine?"
"I'll scan yours."
"Okay."
Vanessa Green started the QR code again and turned the screen of her phone towards Henry Blackwell.
As Henry Blackwell reached for his phone, Vanessa Green turned her chin slightly.
She always felt that there was a sight on her.
When she finished scanning, she exited the QR code and started the "new friends" screen. The feeling of being watched grew stronger and stronger.
When she looked up, she saw that Shawn Yeats was still sitting in the same position and staring at her.
Their gazes met again.
The overhead light was shining straight at him, casting a shadow on his mirror frame.
He was looking blatantly into Vanessa Green's eyes, his eyes were somewhat carelessly, with vaguely intimidating.
Vanessa Green opened her mouth and was about to say something when she saw him place the pen in his hand, his voice coming along with the gentle clatter of the pen against the desk.
"Vanessa Green."
This was the first time that Vanessa Green had heard him call her by her name.
He had actually remembered her name.
A few very ordinary words, a few words she had to hear countless times every day, were coldly called by him, making her hear beat so fast.
She looked at Shawn Yeats in a daze.
"Come here."
He dropped these two words and got up to leave the podium.
