Chapter 11
It hadn't rained yet, but the thunder kept sounding, from near to far. Occasionally, there would be a sudden thunder, frightening the kittens along the road to run around.
Vanessa had just walked out of the building when a gust of wind with fallen leaves blew over. It was bitterly cold.
The gloomy sky was accompanied by thunder, which aggravated the coolness. Vanessa sighed and wrapped her scarf in silence.
It was nearly 1,000 feet from here to the gate. Although the street lights were on, Vanessa subconsciously accelerated her pace.
The road was spacious and open. There were no vehicles or obstacles. One could see the searchlight at the end at a glance.
In the bright yellow light, Vanessa saw a woman coming face to face.
She was well dressed in a black fur jacket with fluffy hair, and her high heels were pounding. She was carrying a small suitcase in her hand. She was attractive.
Vanessa looked at the woman intently and immediately recognized that she was Sophia.
It was no surprise to see her here. After all, as a woman from a rich family, she may live here or come to visit friends or relatives.
But Sophia was a little surprised to see Vanessa here.
Sophia walked close to her, and then she was sure that she had recognized Vanessa correctly.
Being close, they were awkward. It's impossible to bypass Vanessa as if Sophia didn't see her.
Vanessa stared at her when Sophia was struggling, "What a coincidence. Why are you here?"
"Well..." Sophia answered subconsciously, "I'm looking for someone."
It was so cold that Vanessa had no intention of standing here and chatting with Sophia.
"It may rain in the early morning tonight. Don't forget your umbrella when you go to work tomorrow."
After the conversation, they nodded and walked in their original direction.
But Sophia kept looking at Vanessa's back and saying something.
"Why is she here..."
The doubt was soon dispelled by the cold wind.
Standing at the door of Shawn's house, Sophia held the small suitcase to her chest and showed a flattering smile to the mirror on the door fence. When she was about to ring the doorbell, she was suddenly stunned, drooped her eyebrows and eyes, and looked tired.
After a while, the door opened automatically.
"Shawn." Sophia shuffled in. "Are you finished?"
No one answered. Sophia looked around with her head.
There was no one in the living room or corridor.
Was anyone here?
Where was the woman just now?
There was no trace left except a glass on the table.
Sophia had good eyesight and saw the lipstick print at the mouth of the glass.
Sure enough, there was a woman here just now.
Sophia was stunned for a moment, and an idea came into her mind.
Sophia had just met Vanessa on the road. was it because she had been at Shawn's house tonight?
Besides, Vanessa had been writing the interview manuscript for Shawn these days, so they should know each other...
"What are you doing?"
Shawn's voice suddenly came from behind. Sophia was startled and stepped back with the small suitcase.
Shawn came out of the room with his pajamas in his hands. Without looking at Sophia, he went directly to the bathroom.
"Shawn." Sophia ran over with the small suitcase in her arms. "Are you alone?"
When Shawn stopped, he looked at the suitcase in her hands and asked, "Are you not going home so late?"
"I've come to bring you some wine."
Sophia opened the suitcase and showed the contents to Shawn. "I've thought it. Maybe I will work overtime in the next few days and not have much time. So I've come to send you precious wine."
Sophia could send anyone to help her deliver wine to Shawn. Her words seemed that she had to deliver herself.
Sophia had behaved pitifully to Shawn too many times these days. He knew her intention.
"Put it over there." Shawn pointed to the wine cabinet.
Sophia immediately went to the wine cabinet solicitously, and then heard Shawn say, "Then go home."
"..."
When the wine was put away, Sophia was about to return home with a sad expression.
But when she passed Shawn, she glanced at the glass on the table. Without thinking, she directly asked, "Shawn, is there any guest in your house tonight? Who is it?"
Sophia regretted it after asking.
Through the lens, she saw Shawn look gloomy. He had become impatient.
"Shawn, rest early."
Before leaving, Sophia did not forget to add, "I didn't get off work until more than eight o'clock today. I haven't eaten yet. I'll go home and have something to eat."
After Sophia left, Shawn gradually looked at the glass.
The mouth of the glass was crystal clear. In the light, a touch of light red was vague.
...
It didn't rain until Vanessa reached home. Fortunately, she hadn't gotten wet in the rain.
She hurried back to her room, took off her coat, and sat on the bed in a daze for a while.
The murmuring rain outside the window made the room very quiet, which made people easy to be in a certain mood.
Suddenly, her cell phone rang.
Vanessa pulled out her mobile phone and a new Whatsapp message popped up on the lock screen.
Vanessa suddenly felt nervous. She recalled the scene more than half an hour ago.
How did she answer after Shawn's asking?
At that time, she was probably shocked. She stared at him and said, "I'm asked to give you a little respect."
The result of this sentence was that Vanessa was ordered to leave by Shawn.
In this case, Vanessa certainly wouldn't keep staying at Shawn's house.
She packed up her things neatly. When she reached the door, she waved to Shawn by the window.
"Good night, Mr. Yeats." She tilted her head and her long hair fell from her shoulder like a waterfall. "I'll go back and add your Whatsapp."
Shawn was silent and looked back at Vanessa from afar.
Too far apart, Vanessa couldn't see Shawn's expression clearly, so she was immersed in her thoughts.
"I'll chat with you when you're bored."
"I'm good at chatting."
"I have a lot of memes."
She saw that Shawn had a faint smile.
The next second, he raised his hand and took something from the small table.
Then the door behind Vanessa opened automatically.
Vanessa, "...."
Her smile only lasted until she walked out the door.
On the way home, she felt upset.
But now that she was at home, she thought it over carefully and felt that the situation was actually good.
At least, Shawn didn't reject her chasing.
Then Vanessa would take it as Shawn's acquiescence.
At the moment, the Whatsapp reminder may be his friend verification message.
So Vanessa didn't hurry to take a bath. She thought she almost succeeded. She rolled on the bed and excitedly unlocked the phone.
She was stunned when the Whatsapp message popped up.
It was not a friend application from Shawn, but a message from a college roommate, Emily Lynd.
Emily: Vanessa, did you break up with Jackson?
Vanessa: Yes.
Emily: Why didn't you say it?
Vanessa: I'm too busy these days.
Vanessa: How do you know?
Emily: I saw his Whatsapp moments. He posted a photo of him with a woman.
Vanessa was silent for a moment.
Vanessa: Send me.
Emily immediately sent her the photo.
In the photo, the two snuggled together. Bianca bit the spoon, pinched Jackson's chin with her fingers, and smiled sweetly.
The rain grew heavier and heavier, crackling down, accompanied by thunder.
When Vanessa quit the photo, Emily had sent her several messages in succession.
Emily: Since he had chased you back then, I thought he was a peerless good man in the first place.
Emily: Fuck. This woman looks average. Is he blind? I couldn't believe it at the beginning. I thought she was his sister.
Emily: It's strange. You're a campus belle. But he broke up with you for a normal-looking woman.
In fact, to be fair, Bianca was not ugly. She had fair skin, a small face, a sharp chin, and a pair of Phoenix eyes.
One would think that Bianca was pure beauty.
Since Emily had lived with Vanessa, quite a beauty, for four years, she thought Bianca was ugly.
Emily: How did you break up?
Vanessa: He cheated on me.
Emily:?
Emily: Did he cheat on you for this woman?
Vanessa: Yes.
Emily: I think he is crazy.
Vanessa: Because this woman's family is very rich.
Emily: Well. It seems that Jackson likes her money.
Emily: Let it go. Jackson is such a bad man. He will easily cheat on girls for money.
After the dialogue with Emily, Vanessa became furious.
As Vanessa shared a bitter hatred of Jackson with Emily, her emotion had been magnified infinitely.
Vanessa sat up, held her mobile phone, and took a deep breath for a while. Then she read the address book on Whatsapp.
There was no message from Shawn.
Fine.
Vanessa copied Shawn's mobile phone number but still couldn't find his Whatsapp.
It seemed that Shawn had set that one couldn't add him by phone number.
Vanessa didn't give up. She could only send a text message to Shawn in the text message box full of verification codes and spam messages.
Vanessa: I'm home. (Smiling expression)
Vanessa: Have you rested, Mr. Yeats?
Vanessa didn't receive a text message until she came out after a bath.
Late at night, Vanessa woke up vaguely under the guidance of some kind of consciousness.
She reached out under the pillow and took her mobile phone. She half squinted at the SMS box. Shawn still didn't reply to her.
She couldn't open her eyes anymore. When the mobile phone slipped from her palm, she fell asleep.
After a while, the mobile phone beside the pillow finally vibrated.
Even such a small vibration awakened Vanessa.
She couldn't open her eyes, so she narrowed her eyes into slits and took out her mobile phone. It was a text message from Shawn.
Vanessa was ecstatic to read the message.
Shawn: TD.
Vanessa slowly opened her eyes and stared at the screen.
It took her a while to figure out what that meant.
Shawn, were you serious?
Vanessa was so exasperated that she threw her mobile phone out.
With a loud bang, Vanessa suddenly opened her eyes.
In the dark, she blinked again and gradually saw the light shining through the curtain.
She gradually came to her senses. She reached to the pillow again.
The cell phone was still there.
Quietly, there was no new message. There was still no reply in the SMS dialog box of Shawn.
It turned out that it was just a dream.
Shawn didn't really reply to her with "TD".
Shawn replied nothing.
But Vanessa was still angry with Shawn in her dream.
In the middle of the night, there was no one. It was raining heavily. A signing pen engraved with the logo of Mondred Bank was broken by Vanessa and accurately smashed into the garbage can.
