Chapter 121 Grandmother and Her Grandson
The Old Madam was so angry at her grandson's behavior that she didn't want to leave. Then, she sat down directly in front of a stone bench by the roadside.
She had racked her brains to convince Hubert to agree to get married, but she didn't expect...
After a moment of silence, Hubert came over and sat down next to her grandmother. Then he said calmly, "Grandma, you should know that love cannot be forced. Since you wanted to repay Teresa, you asked me to marry her. I was brought up by you. And I did everything you told me to do."
"Grandma, I told you not to interfere with my married life. And I also told you on the day I got our marriage certificate that I had to examine Teresa's character. I want to see if she is worthy of me spending the rest of my life. If not, I will divorce her within six months."
His grandmother said angrily, "You're so ill-tempered. Even if you were really in love with Teresa, you wouldn't admit it, anyway."
Hubert felt speechless.
"Forget it. I'll stop being mad at you. It was my fault that I forced you to marry Teresa in the first place. Whatever! In your words, you got married to Teresa in secret, so few people knew about it. In that case, it would minimize the damage to her after the divorce."
Then, his grandmother sighed as she said, "I hope you won't regret it. And I hope you won't have to plead with me to say a few nice words about you."
Hubert pursed his lips and remained silent.
"Tell the driver to drive the car over. I'm leaving right now. Once I see you, I'm going to die of anger. Your grandfather was worried about your marriage before he passed away. And he was afraid that you would be single for the rest of your life."
When his grandfather passed away, he was still very young. And he didn't have to be anxious about his marriage at all.
Besides, he was not old either and was only thirty now.
"Grandma, you can leave after having breakfast."
Hubert was concerned about his grandmother. He was raised by his grandparents. When his grandfather passed away, his grandmother became very lonely. He used to spend a long time with his grandmother getting over the loss of the love of her life. He didn't feel relieved about running the company until his grandmother became energetic again.
"I can't eat when I see your face. I'm going to eat at Teresa's store. I'll eat two bowls of rice if I see her face."
Even if Hubert was hit hard by his grandmother, he would not be angry because he knew that his grandmother liked Teresa. It was not only because Teresa had saved her grandmother's life, but also because her grandmother liked Teresa's personality.
"Then I'll ask Mr. Vega to pack breakfast for you. Grandma, you can take breakfast with you and then eat it with Teresa."
After thinking about it, his grandmother agreed and said, "Tell Mr. Vega to pack more food. Teresa has a good appetite. And Gwen is there, too. I think I can eat a big meal with the two of them around."
Hubert had a smile in his eyes at the thought of Teresa being a foodie. And he admitted he enjoyed eating with Teresa. Whenever he saw her enjoying her food, his appetite became better, and he could eat one more bowl of rice.
"Okay."
Hubert pulled out his cell phone and called Mr. Vega to pack breakfast for three people and have his grandmother's driver bring them over because his grandmother was going to Watenll City School.
Mr. Vega then received his orders.
"Grandma, are you sure you don't want to go back and sit down for a little longer?"
Hubert asked his grandmother after having Mr. Vega pack breakfast.
"No. If I sit down, by the time I get to Teresa's store, she'll be full."
After saying that, his grandmother took out her phone and said, "I'd better talk to Teresa in case she packed her own breakfast."
Hubert watched in silence as his grandmother called Teresa.
He also wanted to know when Teresa returned from the police station after giving her statement.
"Grandma."
Teresa was awakened by the Old Madam's phone call, and her voice sounded a little sleepy. The Old Madam knew Teresa was not awake as soon as she heard her voice. Then she laughed and said, "You're not up yet? I thought you were up."
Usually, at this time, Teresa had already gone to the market to buy ingredients and come back.
"I slept late last night, so I slept a little longer today. Grandma, where are you?"
Teresa thought the Old Madam was coming over, so she asked her casually.
"I'm outside. I'm going to join you at your store for breakfast. By the way, Teresa, you don't have to pack breakfast. I've packed breakfast for the three of us. I'll bring them over and eat with you and Gwen."
"Okay. Grandma, please wait for me at the store. I'll be there soon. Don't get up so early. Get more sleep. I won't be starved."
"I'm getting old, so I'm a light sleeper. I wake up once it's light outside. I'm used to that. I know you won't starve yourself. I just like to eat with you. My appetite gets better, too."
Teresa chuckled.
For the past few months, she had been eating with the Old Madam regularly.
The Old Madam not only knew that many of the old stores in Watenll City had great snacks, but she had taken her and Gwendolyn to eat all the famous, delicious, and the most authentic snacks in the city.
Both she and Gwen thought the Old Madam was a foodie when she was younger.
However, the Old Madam was getting older, so she could not eat much. As the living conditions became better, she became pickier about food.
Therefore, the Old Madam's appetite had decreased.
The two of them talked for a while before the Old Madam hung up the phone.
After hanging up the phone, the moment she looked up, she saw her grandson staring at her with his dark eyes. After a moment, his grandmother asked him, "What are you looking at me like that for? Do you want me to ask Teresa about anything?"
Hubert parted his pursed lips and said, "You've already hung up the phone. What's the point if I tell you now?"
"Why didn't you just say something?"
Hubert had a straight face and remained silent.
Then her grandmother lifted her palm to slap hard on his arm and criticized, "Look at you! You're so stubborn! Just open your mouth and ask her if you have anything to say or ask her. But you keep putting on a straight face and pursing your lips. It's like you can't even talk at all with your mouth."
"Your grandfather and I are both very good at expressing ourselves, but how did we raise you to be like this? Your mouth is such a waste. You don't even know how to talk."
Hubert blushed at her grandmother scolding him.
"What do you want to ask Teresa? When I see her later, I'll ask her instead."
Since her grandmother was hoping that things would get better between Hubert and Teresa, she eventually chose to help her grandson.
However, Hubert's face tensed up, and he didn't say anything.
Then, his grandmother was so angry that she wanted to raise her hand and hit him.
She rubbed her hands together and kept muttering, "After all, he's my grandson! And he's my grandson, after all!"
Hubert said, "... I-I just wanted to know when she got home last night. S-She had an accident last night."
"What kind of accident?"
"Some rascals stopped her car halfway down the road. They even tried to beat her up, but she fought them back. Finally, the police took those rascals and her to the police station."
The moment his words broke off, his grandmother glared at him.
The next moment, her grandmother raised her hand and slapped Hubert across his face.
Hubert was wearing a sweatshirt, which revealed his arm. After his grandmother slapped him, there were red marks on his arm. It was obvious that his grandmother was furious at the moment.
"You saw it, didn't you? Hubert, even if you don't love Teresa, when you see her in danger, you can't just stand by. Even if you were a stranger, you should have walked over and saved her, not to mention that she was your wife."
After his grandmother cursed him severely, Hubert said sullenly, "She is a great fighter. I didn't even get a chance to save her even though I wanted to."
The moment her grandmother heard his words, she suddenly stopped talking.
