Chapter 10 She Was Almost Hit by a Car
Teresa went to her sister's house.
She usually got up early to prepare breakfast when living with her sister, so she did not know if her sister had got up to make breakfast today since she moved out yesterday. For that reason, Teresa bought breakfast for her sister and nephew at a breakfast stand nearby her sister's home.
Her brother-in-law should have gone to work, so Teresa didn't buy breakfast for him.
Teresa opened the door and went into the house, finding her sister had got up and was cooking in the kitchen.
"Leila."
"Tess, you are coming."
Leila came out of the kitchen and was very happy to see Teresa, asking, "Have you had breakfast already? I'm cooking noodles. Do you want some?"
"No, I've had breakfast. Are you cooking noodles right now? If you aren't, come here to have breakfast. I've bought some food for you and Andy."
"Not yet. I got up late. Your brother-in-law went out to have breakfast. He scolded me that I didn't get up early to make breakfast for him and just took care of our child without doing anything else."
Leila felt a little aggrieved.
It was actually not easy at all to take care of a child.
Andy had a slight fever last night. She was worried very much that Andy's physical situation would get worse, so she didn't sleep well all night. Andy cried many times when he was asleep because he felt uncomfortable and she had to console him again and again. On the contrary, her husband didn't care about anything. He slept like a log, and even scolded her for failing to comfort Andy when he was awakened by the cries.
"He totally doesn't know how tired it is to take care of a child. Leila, you should let him take care of Andy at the weekend. He will know how difficult it is to take care of a child after that, lest he always blames you for doing nothing at home and only taking care of Andy."
"He can get up to make breakfast for himself. Who stipulates that a wife must make breakfast for her husband?"
"Where is Andy?"
"Andy had a slight fever last night and didn't sleep well. His fever wasn't gone until early morning. Now he is still sleeping. I didn't sleep until he fell asleep finally. But your brother-in-law woke me up before long because I didn't get up early to make breakfast for him. Then I was scolded."
Hearing that, Teresa was very angry, saying, "Why did Andy have a fever? Even if his fever is gone, you are supposed to take him to see a doctor later to make sure he totally feels good. How could my brother-in-law be so cruel? When Andy was ill, he blamed you and didn't give any favor!"
"Leila, does him still continue to split the bill with you after I moved out?"
Leila sat down on the couch, opened the box with the breakfast bought by Teresa in it, and said, "I will take Andy to see a doctor later. Your brother-in-law still insists on splitting the bill with me. He said I only knew how to spend money every day but didn't know how to make money. He blamed me that I didn't know how much pressure he was under. He asked me to bear the family expenses as well."
"It must have been his sister who taught him this. His sister is married but still attempts to control her brother. Your brother-in-law was very kind to me before, but it has changed since his sister began to interrupt our domestic affairs."
Leila didn't like her husband's sister very much because his sister liked to alienate her husband from her and destroy their relationship. Every time his sister came to their house, she was very picky. After she left, Leila and her husband always had a fierce quarrel.
His sister always said that Leila just knew how to spend money every day and was so useless that she shouldn't make money even though she was well-educated.
In fact, before resigning, Leila was a chief financial officer in the company with a very considerable salary. She sacrificed so much for love and marriage, but what she got was abuse from her husband's family.
The money she had spent was totally used to surport the family. She could only pay for her clothes with the money given by Teresa. She hadn't bought new clothes for a long time, let alone cosmetics.
But every time she bought new clothes and cosmetics, her husband's mother and sister scolded her for spending money indiscriminately. Even though she explained that she used the money given by Teresa, they said that since it was given to her, it was the common property of the family and she could not spend it.
"Leila, how about you let Andy go to kindergarten? Then you can find a job and will earn much more than your husband."
Teresa was worried about Leila very much.
When living with Leila before, Teresa always did almost all the housework to make Leila not so tired.
"Your brother-in-law said Andy should go to kindergarten at the age of three or four. Now the tuition of the kindergarten is more expensive every year. Your brother-in-law's income is spent on housing and car loans, household expenses, and more importantly, his parents' living expenses. The money left each month is not very much. It is my wit that I always live a thrifty life and keep saving the money you gave me. Otherwise, our family would be really poor."
Leila used to work in finance, so she was prudent. She really didn't spend money indiscriminately.
"As long as you can afford the tuition, you are supposed to let Andy go to kindergarten. Then Andy will learn something and play with other children. Besides, you can find a job. Women should have their own financial resources before and after marriage. Stop believing my brother-in-law's nonsense any more. He said a few year ago that he would support you for life, but, you know what, he has already been impatient to do that."
"Leila, don't you think he is cheating on you?"
Leila was startled and said, "I don't think he'll do that. I know his income very well. He has no extra money to support a mistress."
"But his attitude towards you is getting worse and worse. You have to make a plan for your future. You can't be a housewife with no income any more. He just doesn't understand your hardship."
After a short silence, Leila said, "Let's talk about it later. Teresa, no need to worry about me so much. I can live a good life. How about you? When will you husband come back from his business trip?"
"It might be a few days later. He works in a large company and is very busy."
Leila asked Teresa about her life in her new home again and again and was relieved after making sure that Teresa lived a happy life.
After seeing Andy, Teresa had to go back to the bookshop at the urging of Leila.
She rode her electric scooter to the bookshop, but she was still thinking about Leila's unhappy life on the way. Because she was lost in deep thought and did not watch where she was going, she was almost hit by a car. She was so shocked that she swerved sharply and succeeded in avoiding the car. Then she stopped her scooter.
The car also braked sharply and stopped.
Teresa looked at that car, finding it was a Rolls Royce car. What a luxury car!
The Rolls Royce car was followed by several cars that were the same as each other. Those who were in the cars might be the bodyguards of the one who was sitting in the luxury car.
It was nothing strange to see luxury cars in Watenll City, a metropolis.
After making a sorry gesture towards the driver, Teresa instantly restarted her scooter and went away.
She was afraid of being scolded.
The driver turned to the man in a blacksuit sitting on the back seat and said, "Young Master Donovan, that's Mrs. Donovan."
Hubert's face was gloomy. He saw clearly that it was Teresa who almost hit his car. She was obviously distracted by something just now. Did she want to die by being hit by a car when she didn't keep her eyes on the road?
Even if she wanted to die, she shouldn't let his car hit her! Or her blood would dirty the wheels of his car!
