Chapter 11 Attending a Banquet with Gwendolyn

Chapter 11 Attending a Banquet with Gwendolyn
"Let's go."
Hubert complained about Teresa in his heart, but he didn't say or do anything.
Teresa was more like his wife in name only and they were no different from strangers.
The driver dared not speak and quitely started the car.
Teresa didn't know the luxury car which she almost ran into was Hubert's. She raced all the way on the electric scooter and arrived at the bookshop soon. Gwendolyn lived near the bookshop, so she always got to the bookshop ahead of Teresa.
"Tess."
Gwendolyn ordered a takeaway for breakfast after finishing her work. When Teresa arrived, Gwendolyn was eating. Seeing Teresa, Gwendolyn asked with a smile, "Have you had breakfast?"
"Yes, I have."
Gwendolyn said okay and continued to have breakfast.
"I brought you two boxes of snacks. They are very delicious. Have a try."
Gwendolyn said while picking up a bag and putting it on the cash register.
Teresa put the key of her electric scooter on the cash register, then sat down and pulled the bag containing two boxes of snacks to herself, saying, "All desserts are tasty for me. Gwen, I saw a Rolls Royce car on my way."
Gwendolyn said, "It's not strange to see Rolls Royce cars in Watenll City, but it's also not common. Have you seen the man in the car? Is he a single and handsome CEO?"
Teresa looked at her with no reply.
Gwendolyn giggled, "I'm just curious that there are so many young, handsome and rich CEOs in romantic stories, but why can't we meet only one in reality?"
"Those stories are all made up to cater to the mass-market. Few people like to read stories about ordinary people. Even if the heroes of those stories are not CEOs, they are elites in certain areas."
Gwendolyn smiled.
"By the way, Tess, are you free this evening?"
"Our bookshop, my home and my sister's house are the only three places where I stay every day. So what's the matter?"
She lived a very simple life. In addition to taking care of the business in the bookshop, she helped Leila take care of Andy.
"There will be a banquet in the evening. It is a banquet of the upper class. There is an extra seat available. Do you want to see the world of the upper class together with me and broaden your horizons?"
Teresa instinctively refused, "The upper class is not something which I am able to contact with. I don't want to go there."
Her monthly income was not low, but she thought she was too far away from the upper class. She didn't want to and was not able to squeeze into the circle.
She thought, to put it bluntly, she would definitely be regarded as a maid when she attended that high-level banquet.
"In fact, I don't want to go either. My mother asked my aunt to get an invitation for me. People having the invitations can take one more person to attend the banquet with them. Then I thought of you. Tess, my sweet Tess, please accompany me to see the world the upper class. Just come with me to deal with it, so that my mother will stop chatter about it."
The Gaston family was a rich aboriginal family in Watenll City. They had several buildings and rooms along almost half a business street and earned a lot by collecting rents. They had at least tens of million assets, but they were still far away from those noble families.
Gwyneth Gaston, Gwendolyn's mother, was extremely satisfied with Gwendolyn's appearance, so she wanted to let her marry into a rich and noble family. It happened that Erica Gaston Porter, Gwendolyn's aunt, married into a family of that kind years ago. After decades of efforts, Erica had already been very popular in the upper class.
Erica cared about Gwendolyn very much and felt that she was barely qualified to marry into a rich and noble family. When Gwyneth talked with Erica about Gwendolyn, Erica was willing to create some opportunities for Gwendolyn.
"You mother urged you again to get married?"

"All mothers in the world are the same. When their daughters grow up, they urge them to marry. My mother urges me every day as if I've eaten a lot at home. I can make money myself, be financially independent, and live a happy life. Why do I have to marry a man? Isn't it good to be single?"
"I hope the man I will marry and I are matched. I don't want to marry into a family that is much richer than mine. Although my aunt is now very popular in the upper class, she has suffered a lot for decades. At the beginning of her marriage, she was not treated well by some of her husband's family members. She used to cry in front of my mother in private when she returned to her parents' home. She knows clearly the hardship of marrying into a rich and noble family."
Gwendolyn embraced freedom and did not want to be bound by the rules of the rich families.
"Tess, please go with me tonight, okay? We just go there for fun and experience something new. My aunt said that many young men, including top business leaders and wealthy men in Watenll City, would attend the banquet. Even if we don't plan to meet some rich guys, we can go there to have a good time. You know what, there will be a lot of delicious food at the banquet."
Teresa was a total foodaholic.
So was Gwendolyn.
They became good friends partly because they both liked eating food.
Teresa was coaxed by Gwendolyn for an hour, and finally had to agree to her request. She decided to close the bookshop early in the evening and accompany Gwendolyn to the banquet.
Teresa called Leila and asked if Andy's fever had been totally gone. Leila told Teresa that she had taken Andy to see a doctor and he had a sight fever because he had a cold.
Teresa was relieved after knowing Andy was all right.
She told Leila that she would accompany Gwendolyn to a banquet in the evening.
"It's so good that you can go there. You will learn more if you can make friends with the people of the upper class."
Leila thought Teresa should attend the banquet.
She asked Teresa to go to the banquet to learn something without any other purposes.
In order to attend the banquet, Gwendolyn closed the bookshop after lunch and took Teresa to her house to change clothes and make up.
The Gaston family liked Teresa very much. All of them agreed that Gwendolyn could take Teresa to the banquet. Anyway, Teresa was married, so they didn't worry that she would steal Gwendolyn's spotlight.
After six o'clock in the evening, the luxury car arranged by Erica stopped at the Gaston family's house.
"Have a good time!"
Gwyneth took Teresa and Gwendolyn out of the house and said to Teresa, "Tess, please help me keep an eye on Gwendolyn. Stop her from being lost in eating if necessary and ask her to talk with young men as much as passible."
Then she said to her daughter, "Gwen, don't let your aunt down."
Teresa smiled, "My pleasure. I will keep an eye on Gwen and won't let her just eat."
They would eat together!
"Since you go there with her, I'll not worry so much."
Gwyneth liked Teresa very much because she thought she was very sensible and self-reliant. If her son were not several years younger than Teresa, she would like to persuade Teresa to marry her son.
After knowing Teresa's lightning marriage, Gwyneth felt it was a great pity. There were several single young male members in the Gaston family. Gwyneth thought Teresa could choose one from them whenever she wanted to get married.
Since Teresa had got married, Gwyneth knew she shouldn't mention that no matter how regretful she thought it was.
At the urging of Gwyneth, Gwendolyn, who wore a white evening dress, a delicate makeup and lots of jewelry, held Teresa and went to the luxury car arranged by her aunt.
Considering that she was married and attended the banquet totally for accompanying Gwendolyn, Teresa didn't even change her clothes. She insisted on wearing her casual clothes and a little light makeup. But her simple clothes and makeup couldn't hide her natural beauty.
