Chapter 175 The Thing Has Been Exposed
Ken was stunned, maybe because Jane had not shown any signs before saying that.
For the first time in his life, he heard someone, a man or woman, refuse him so directly.
She was a really cruel woman.
Remaining stunned for a while, Ken laughed, not to cover up his embarrassment, but to show his helplessness. Jane had summoned all her courage to do it. Previously, she was afraid of him, and now she was more afraid of him, but she thought that she had better show her clear attitude toward something like this, lest that she have more worries in the future.
Ken was to ask Jane about a few things such as his flaws and what she did not like about him. But before he could ask anything, Ellie came in. Immediately, he smiled at her, changing from a man pursuing love to a cute young man in an instant. If Jane did not know him, she would really believe he was a good lad.
After lunch, Jane went outside to pay the bill, but was told that the bill had been paid. She subconsciously looked at Ellie because Ken had not been out of the room from beginning to end.
Ellie shook her head and said, "I didn't do it."
Ken said normally, "Let's go. Where are you going? I'll drive you there."
Jane looked at him, but Ken whispered, "Shh, the cashier probably remembered wrong. Let's roll."
Not believing a word of him, Jane said, "You agreed to let us pay the bill. How could I let you pay without feeling ashamed?"
Ken answered with a smile, "It's my honor to have lunch with you."
Jane was so afraid that Ellie would say she would invite Ken to dinner another day. Fortunately, Ellie remembered her words that Ken and Edward were at odds, so she said with a smile, "When you're free, come to H City. I'll entertain you."
Ken said, "Great! Since you're there, I'll go there a few more times."
As they exchanged their civilities, they walked outside. Jane did not let him drive them, saying that she and her aunt were going to the nearby shopping mall, so the three of them parted at the restaurant entrance.
The two of them hung around for a whole afternoon. In the evening, Charles called them, saying that he wanted to invite Ellie to dinner, so Ellie and Jane went to the hotel by taxi. Together with Aaron, they were a four-person party. At the hotel, they drank and chatted. Charles thanked Ellie for her breakfast, and Ellie thanked him for his caring for Jane. Jane dissuaded Ellie to drink less, and Aaron rushed to Charles to drink the wine for Charles.
Ellie could drink a lot of wine, and Jane was basically like her. After dinner, Charles, who had drunk a lot, tried to act as being sober, but was in fact drunk, so Jane suggested, "Aaron, you might as well send my college fellow home."
Wanting to do it so much, Aaron responded quickly.
When they were having dinner, Jane had noticed that Ellie had been checking her phone, as if sending messages to someone. When they got home, Ellie claimed in a high profile that she was drunk, asking Jane to go to sleep as soon as possible. Yet, she herself went into the guest bedroom, and had never come out since.
Jane strongly suspected that her aunt was dating someone behind her back. She wanted to rush over to check it out, but after thinking for a moment, she gave up. Her aunt was a grown woman, who could not be controlled by her niece now. She would not date a man, but she could not stop her aunt from doing it.
Another dreamless night passed in the blink of an eye. As soon as Jane woke up, her phone's screen lit up. The instant the phone rang, she answered the call.
Jennifer said, "You're awake?"
"I just woke up."
"Um, have you read the news?"
"What's up?"
"I just read it. Y University is now a trending topic. I thought that something good must have happened to our alma mater. As a result, the sexual preferences of one our school graduate were simultaneously exposed by several women. The point is that your idol has been dragged down."
When she heard the beginning of it, Jane was calm. But when she heard the last few words, she asked, "Who has been dragged down?"
Jennifer answered, "Aiden! Do you have any other idol?"
Jane was suddenly wide awake. She asked slightly seriously, "What's going on?"
Jennifer answered, "The man involved is named Bobby Smith. The tip-off on Twitter claimed that he graduated from the same class as Aiden, and that he is also the CEO of a company. Now several women are all suing him that he secretly drugged them when they were having social exchanges, and that when they were conscious, he threatened them with inducements in various ways. Now the thing has been exposed. Everyone began hunting for Bobby's real background information online and then found out that the company he works with is under Aiden's name. The two of them once lived in the same dorm. The internet is boiling. All the people are discussing if the graduates from renowned universities only have an attractive resume, but in the dark, they do things that can't be taken to the light. He's a black sheep, isn't he?"
Jane frowned. Unexpectedly, the name Bobby reappeared in her life.
After hanging up, Jane went to read the news herself. A short time after the news broke out, now the top trending topic was "Aiden Cater", the second was "Bobby Smith from Y University", and the fourth was "Are renowned universities equal to high moral standards".
When she clicked on the first trending topic, she saw Aiden's name in a special blue font conspicuously appear in the news pieces about Bobby. The font of Bobby's name was the usual black one. If she was careless, she would think something had happened to Aiden.
The first piece was at least about Bobby, but when she went down, she only saw the news about Aiden. Someone exposed his previous imprisonment, accusing him of being a businessman with flaws. Someone spoke of Forward Education in the comment area, and there were a lot of replies after the comment. No exception, all of them slandered Forward Education for being a place to only provide service for the rich in the name of an educational institute. Some called on the top leaders to investigate, saying that education should be equal and free, but that why Forward Education had destabilized the market, making the children feel life was unfair.
Someone said that the leader who put Bobby, a beastly human, in an important position must be a bad guy, and that they were the same species living in the same nest.
Such twisted views were numerous.
Every time the comments online would show the qualities of the people in the country. Jane would rather believe that many of them were trying to defame others than believe some were truly so lopsided and so emotional in judging a person.
Bobby reaped what he sowed, but had Aiden offended anyone?
In a whole hour after waking up, Jane had been reading the tweets. The trending topics on Twitter had been so hot that the company Bobby worked with had to issue a statement to explain it. The statement said that Bobby had officially handed in his resignation to the company yesterday, and that he was not a member of the company anymore.
This statement did not stop the public from talking about it, but made the situation get worse. Everyone held the view that "There's no smoke without fire", and they asked why the senior leader had suddenly resigned. Did he feel guilty because of his wrongdoings?
Jane could not help but think a lot. After all, the day Bobby's wrongdoings was exposed was so close to the day she was trapped. She thought of Ken first. Ken had asked her if she wanted to vent her spleen yesterday. He was likely to take revenge on Bobby, but he would not wrongly hurt Aiden, so he was not the culprit.
If it was not Ken... could it be Edward?
If Edward was the one, nothing seemed unreasonable. But Aiden was implicated. If Aiden had been taken into this incident because of her such a real fuse, it meant that she hurt him again indirectly, didn't she?
Jane believed that she had a clear mind, and her analysis was reasonable. Yet, although she had guessed Edward to be the one behind the scenes, she didn't expect his aim in doing this was different from what she thought.
