Chapter 173 Meeting Her Family
Ken faintly heard a woman's voice from his phone, so he asked, "Who came to your home, your younger sister?"
Jane had to explain, "My little aunt."
"Little aunt? I seem to have heard a girl's voice."
Before Jane could answer him, Ellie had leaned over with her ear close to the phone, showing so much interest in their phone talk. As she tried to avoid her, Jane said, "I'll treat you to dinner in a few days."
Ken said, "Bring your little aunt. She's not an outsider."
Hearing a young man's voice, Ellie immediately grabbed Jane's arm and repetitively winked, signaling her to promptly agree. Jane was speechless, ready to refuse when Ellie said loudly, "Together! I'll pay the bill!"
Ken was slightly stunned, but then asked with a smile, "Are you talking to me, little aunt?"
With one hand stopping Ellie, Jane turned her face aside and said, "No..."
But Ellie shouted, "Yes, I'm free. Let's have lunch together."
Jane could not stop her at all. Ken laughed, "Okay, little aunt, since you said so, I'll listen to you."
Jane held the phone, facing her aunt Ellie, who was eager to have lunch. At the same time, Ken had accepted her aunt's advice. In such a dilemma, she almost blurted out, "Maybe you two should have an appointment alone, eh?"
Ken could almost imagine Jane's expression at the moment. She, who had always been afraid of him, would avoid him as much as she could. If she could not, she would put off the meeting with him. This time she had agreed to treat him to dinner, only because she had misunderstood him earlier. She had not expected to meet him today, but unexpectedly, her aunt was trying to make the meeting possible.
Restraining his laughter, Ken said, "Tell me a specific time. I'll go pick you two up."
Feeling helpless, Jane said, "Don't bother. I'll invite you to dinner. Pick a place. We'll go straight over."
Ken asked, "What does your little aunt like?"
Jane answered, "Don't care about her! She can eat anything. It's up to you."
Ken sighed with deep emotions, "I suddenly feel I have very high status..."
Jane was silent. Being used to it, Ken said without caring about her feelings, "Then let's meet at Peace Island at eleven. We'll eat Japanese food, okay?"
Jane answered, "Okay, but Peace Island requires booking in advance, right?"
Jane had not been to Peace Island before. She had just heard Jennifer and Aaron speak of it when chatting: the most expensive place to eat Japanese food. Aaron wanted Jennifer to pay, but Jennifer said, "If you can make a reservation, I swear I'll pay."
Since Jennifer, a miser, even dared to say something like that, it meant ordinary people could not book tables in the restaurant at all.
Ken said, "I'll make the reservation. You two just come straight over."
Jane replied, "Okay, thanks."
Ken blamed her, "I'll meet your family, my future relative. If you speak anything so estrange to me again, I'll be angry."
Jane fell silent.
Then Ken said with a smile, "Okay, fine. I'll stop joking about you. Bye."
As soon as she hung up, Jane fixed her sharp eyes on her aunt, blocked by her arm, standing an arm far away.
Perceiving no anger from Jane, Ellie widened her eyes and excitedly asked, "Who? What was he? Your colleague or schoolmate? He likes you, right? Why haven't you spoken of him before?"
Jane said calmly, "Not even an acquaintance. We've just met a few times. He doesn't like me, nor do I like him. Will you tell me, without a reason, about a person having no relations with you?"
Ellie squinted at Jane, obviously suspicious. As she studied Jane, she said, "Would you invite a man having no relations with you to dinner?"
Jane said, "I owe him this meal."
Ellie immediately arched her browns slightly. "Look, you leaked it, didn't you? If you are not friends, how could you say you owe him something?"
Jane, who could not clearly explain it to her, had to say with warning eyes, "I can only tell you one thing: his relationship with Edward is subtle. So, when you see him in a while, you are not allowed to be overly hospitable. Please keep dignified and graceful. This is an ordinary lunch. Don't imagine wildly."
Ellie asked very curiously, "What kind of subtlety is his relationship with Edward?"
As she changed her clothes, Jane answered, "The subtlety you think of."
Ellie frowned and asked, "He and Edward like each other?"
Jane was putting on a turtleneck pullover. When she heard that, her head got stuck in the sweater. Only when three whole seconds had passed did her head come out. With ruffled hair, she looked at Ellie expressionlessly.
Ellie was still crazily imagining possible associations, but Jane said, "The two of them are at odds! If they drive their cars down the street, they will probably bump into each other! Do you have the emotions of a normal person?"
Ellie suddenly got enlightened. "Why not tell me directly? Their relationship is subtle, you said? Of course, my mind would go awry."
Jane suddenly didn't want to talk and turned around to put on her clothes, but Ellie said, "Then it is a little improper for you to have lunch with your client's enemy, isn't it?"
Jane accused her, "You were so irrational that I could not stop you. Tell me that was not you, eh?"
After thinking for a few moments, Ellie said, "Or I'll go there alone?"
Jane was angry, but she finally could not help but laugh. Was it suitable to let Ellie have lunch with Edward alone? No!
Ken had said they would meet at eleven. Now it was already ten. There was not a lot of time left. Jane urged Ellie to go get prepared quickly, and Ellie flashed back to the guest bedroom. Truly in a few moments, she reappeared with new clothes and makeup. Again, she was a beautiful young woman.
Seeing Jane without makeup tying her hair, Ellie asked, "Don't you need to do makeup?"
"No."
"If I had known you wouldn't do makeup, I wouldn't have done it, either."
"You do yours. You won't cause me any trouble."
Ellie replied, "I'll cause you trouble. If the man thinks I'm my younger sister, how insulting it will be to you!"
Jane could not help but laugh. "If you don't mind being younger, I'll can you niece, and you'll call me little aunt."
"Little aunt, quickly, or we'll be late!" Ellie changed her addressing way.
At 10:30 a.m., the two of them went downstairs. Ellie, wearing very high-heeled and over-the-knee tall boots, was barely as tall as Jane, who, however, was only wearing flat shoes. The two of them were walking shoulder to shoulder toward the complex gate, thinking about stopping a taxi by the roadside. Yet, when they looked up, they saw a gray SUV parked not far away. The car was not attractive, but the man standing beside it was very conspicuous. Jane narrowed her eyes and found that it was Ken.
Seeing Jane, Ken waved his hand with a smile and strode toward her. Seeing him walking over from the short distance, Ellie whispered without moving her lips, "Who's he?"
"The man to have lunch with today."
"Why didn't you tell me he's a handsome guy?"
Jane squeezed her arm, disappointed in her, implying that she keep a low profile.
When the three of them had come close, Jane called, "Mr. Garcia."
Ken said, "Stop saying 'Mr.' or 'Miss'..." As he spoke, he nodded politely at Ellie. "Hello, Ellie, I'm Ken Garcia."
Ellie reached out her hand. "Hello, I'm Jane's little aunt."
Ken shook hands with Ellie like a real gentleman and naturally flattered her, "If you didn't say you're Jane's little aunt, I would think you're her younger sister."
Ellie laughed happily, and Ken said, "Get into the car! It is still a little cold outside."
Jane and Ellie went to the back seats, and Ken got in to start the car. In the beginning, he did not start the car smoothly. When he saw the two ladies in the back seats watching him, he said with a smile, "New car. I'm not used to it yet."
Ellie gave a small smile. "Take your time. Don't worry."
This was a Volvo worth about $200,000. Ellie thought that Ken had come with his most expensive car, but the truth was that he was an enthusiast of Ferrari. Since the moment he could drive a car, he had always driven sports cars. Unexpectedly, he had had to pick up two people, so he had especially borrowed his friend's least attractive car.
