Chapter 17 His Personal Certification
When Jane was watched by Justin and the woman, she gave a quick thought to the matter whether to make this call. After a few moments' consideration, she decided to call him.
If she didn't, it would seem like a deliberate cover-up of their relationship. Furthermore, she couldn't offend this little devil now. So, she tried to beat him at his own game.
Taking out her mobile phone, Jane dialed Edward, expecting to hear "The number you have dialed is power off". so thatshe could kill two birds with one stone. No one would be embarrassed. However, gods love tomess people around sometimes. After several beeps, Edward answered the damn phone.
Jane even didn't have to look up to the people in front of her. She would imagine their expressions one holding back smlie, one holding anger.
After four beeps, a deep voice of a man came from the other side, "What's the matter?"
Jane could only go to have to tough it out, "Mr. Smith, Justin asked me to tell you that Miss Brown is here."
Edward was silent for a while, and then said calmly, "I'll be home in forty minutes."
"Okay, I'll pass it on for you."
After she hung up, Jane repeated every word said by Edward. The woman still smiled slightly on the surface with a somewhat unpredictable expression and said, "I should have let you ask him where he was just now, and I would go see him directly"
Jane didn't answer. Justin said slowly, "Miss Brown scarcely comes to our home. She's a rare guest. I'll let people prepare for lunch. Also, he'll be back at lunchtime. Let's eat together."
Jane's heart was pounding. Together? That meant she needed to have lunch with them.
Justin looked up at Jane and asked, "Miss Cooper, you didn't seem to like yesterday's food. What do you like? I'll let the cook make it."
A smile touched the corners of Jane's mouth at once, and she said, "Don't bother. I have a lunch date with a friend."
Justin frowned, acting like a child, "But you gave me your word!/ But that's not what you said! You have promised to eat together at noon ...... Miss Brown doesn't come very often. You don't need to be embarrassed."
Jane regarded herself as an intellectual, but she couldn't help to curse secretly, "To hell with that embarrassment!"
This asshole must did this on purpose, he only pretended to seek help. She guessed that he was the one who wanted to kill two birds with one stone.
Seeing the close relationship between them, the woman stopped smiling and interrupted, "You guys take the class first. I'll go downstairs."
She walked outside. As soon as she left, Justin said, "Miss Cooper, close the door!"
Jane did so and stood there thoughtfully. Justin waited for a while, but Jane didn't say anything. He looked up at her and took initiative., "Don't you chase me to study?"
Jane didn't look at him and said in a low voice, "If you really want to kick me out, don't do it in such a way. Reputation means a lot in our tutoring industry. Besides, your family is influential. I might not be able to find a job in the future."
She didn't cry or get angry, while her tone was light and helpless. But Justin's heart suddenly exploded with guilt and he said immediately, "Who's going to kick you out? I promised that if you help me, you'll be my teacher."
After a pause, he added, "To say that my tutor is not good equals to say that our Smith Family is not god. People won't invite trouble."
Jane didn't respond. Her eyes dropped slightly, and she seemed to feel deeply wronged.
Justin began to hotch. His lips tightened, and he said, "I'm the one who said those words just now. But I know what you are. I'll stand out and help you if others misunderstand you. No one dares to make life difficult for you."
Jane bowed her head, but deep down she was very happy. "Tsk, he was indeed a child. We were all born in the year of pig. I'm twelve years older than him. I'm more like a sly pig that pretends to be weak to set a trap for the tiger. However, he was a paper tiger at most." Jane thought in her heart.
To conceal the guilt in his mind, Justin was cooperative for the rest of the class. Of course, Jane did not put her happiness on the table. All her gesture and expressions seemed filled with concerns. Then, Sam knocked on the door and called them downstairs for lunch.
Jane said, "I won't disturb you. I'll leave."
Without waiting for Justin to say anything, Sam said, "Mr. Smith invites you to have lunch. It won't take you much time. We'll send you back by car afterwards."
As they spoke, they went downstairs. Edward and the woman were sitting at opposite ends of the sofa. It seemed as if they were talking business instead of dating. He looked up at Jane with his typically handsome but unsmiling face, and simply said, "Lunch first."
Jane has just understood what Justin had in mind, but she didn't know what Edward thought in his mind. She didn't want to make him embarrassed, so she nodded and followed him towards the dining room.
It was the same familiar long table. Edward took the main seat, while Jane was sitting beside Justin, on the opposite side with that well-mannered but cold woman.
When the food was served, Jane noticed that the dishes were very different from those from yesterday./ were very different from yesterday. The nearest dish to her was a sliced roast duck with a side of rolls and side dishes. If this was an exception, then the sauced pig-foreleg and moo shu pork were definitely not coincidence.
Everyone at the table was silent. The woman said, "Why do you want to eat food of Y City recently?"
Edward replied, "Miss Cooper has been in Y City for a long time and is not used to the food here."
Only then did she look squarely at Jane and said with a light smile, "People don't usually get his approval Miss Cooper, I guess you are really something."
Jane smiled, "I'm always grateful for Edward's appreciation."
The woman lowered her head to eat. Jane thought that was it and was relived, but she spoke agian,, "Looking at Miss Cooper, I couldn't believe that she's a tutor. But it's not surprising to see you here."
Jane raised her head, so did the woman. That elegant light smile never left her face, "Men are visual creatures. Edward loves beauty more than others. Even the ornaments standing in the corner of the house have to be beautiful."
A compliment as it may sound, she was being sarcastic by implying that Jane was a beautiful vase with nothing inside. Jane glanced at Edward's face only to find that he was calm and silent. So, she smiled and spoke nothing.
Jane lowered her head to eat. After a couple of bites, a pair of chopsticks came with an abalone. Jane's eyes followed that chopsticks it was Edward's. The people at the table were looking at him with different expressions.
Edward said, "Eat some seafood and abalone is good for women," in a quiet voice without changing his expression.
In a flash, Jane's blood surged up and she blushed. She was more shocked than shy. People would get different meanings through this scene. The woman sitting on the opposite side would misunderstand their relationship.
This meal was sheer torture for Jane, even worse than yesterday's. After the meal, Jane offered to leave. Edward stood up unhurriedly, "I'll see you off."
He didn't command someone else to send her. but was seeing her off in person. Jane was about to refuse when the woman on the sofa said slowly, "Let the driver send her back. I'll leave too."
Edward replied casually, "I'll worry about her, if others send her."
The woman stared at Edward without blinking.
Jane was totally confused. What she thought in mind were: Who am I, where am I, and what happened?
After a few seconds, the woman finally forced a sickly smile and said in a somewhat angry voice, "What do you worry about?"
Edward replied rhetorically, "Because she's too beautiful."
