Chapter 18 Too Much of A Maverick

Chapter 18 Too Much of A Maverick
Until she was in Edward's sports car, Jane still thought about his outspoken and provocative words, "Because she's too beautiful."
The blue sports car was driving on the flat mountain road. There was only silence inside. Jane looked down at the materials of the class in her hand.
"Just forget what Justin said."
Edward suddenly spoke. Jane raised her head and said as usual, "Understood."
Edward looked ahead and asked blankly, "Do you know what I mean?"
Jane said, "Justin is just a child. I am an adult after all. I know what I can do and what I can't. I won't intervene in your personal affairs."
Edward was silent for a few seconds, and then said, "You did better than I thought. That brat is not easy to handle."
Jane thought about his words. Although he said impassively, she also got a vague sense of admiration for her. She raised the corners of her lips and replied with a smile, "Maybe we're born to be suitable."
Edward said: "Then we can sign a formal contract now. I am free today."
He said in an extremely calm voice so that Jane was surprised several seconds later. She turned her head to look at him. She pretended to be calm and confirmed, "Sign a formal contract now?"
Edward didn't look at her and said indifferently, "If you don't want to sign, then don't."
He was so unpredictable. Jane didn't dare to play hard-to-find with him. She appeared to be happy and replied, "Of course, I do. I just didn't think that we'll sign so soon... Thank you for trusting me!"
Edward said, "If you do well, I will treat you generously."
It was the second time for Jane to come to his home. Her relationship with Justin was not that good. Anyway, she made it. She thought that she just passed, but Edward said she did well. Jane was quite confused about his words.
Maybe it was because she had kept calm when he was crazy on the road yesterday; or it was because she just helped him to get rid of Miss Brown today.
Anyway, there were always accidents, as well as surprises.
Jane couldn't figure it out. So she stopped thinking about it. She paid lip service that she would definitely teach Justin well in the future.
...
After two o'clock in the afternoon, it was the most leisurely time in the office of Forward Education. Teachers who did not have classes would gather in the coffee room to chat. Because Jane had made Evelyn Davis embarrassed publicly yesterday, people no longer dared to talk about Jane behind her back. Not to mention that she managed to hook the Smith family. Now when they talked about her, they satirized her in an ironic way. For example, they would say that she was so good, that Mr. Lee had the foresight, and that never judge a person by his appearance.
In this way, Jane could do nothing about these "compliments".
When a female teacher heard these "compliments", she smiled and said, "She can be judge by her appearance, can't she?"
Others would joke, "Miss Johnson, be careful of your signing rate."
"The signing rate means nothing. After all, we ordinary people can't make a big hit through ONE NIGHT!"
"Amazing 'ONE NIGHT'! Miss Johnson is deserved to be called the first sharp-tongued in our S City!"

While a group of people were joking and laughing, someone told that Jane returned. The crowd dispersed immediately. They all went back to their own seat. Jane didn't come back by herself. She was accompanied by Edward, who was 1.88 meters in height and conspicuous. He was a person living in rumors. Over the past two decades, even the natives in S City haven't seen him in person. They were wondering that why would he accompany Jane here?
They sat in their seats but peeked at Edward. Jane took him to the reception room and came to the door of Sofia's office herself.
Sofia was offended by Jane and Jane had made Evelyn embarrassed in the public. Sofia thought that Jane did that deliberately to fight against her. The more she thought about it, the angrier she became. She even didn't sleep well all night to think about how to root out this pesky one before Charles's back.
Just as she was thinking, someone knocked on the door. It was that pesky one that she was thinking about.
"Come in."
Jane opened the door and entered with a smile on her face. However, Sofia didn't smile and asked lightly, "What's the matter?"
Jane said, "The customer wants to sign a contract. I let him wait for you in the reception room."
Sofia resisted the urge to frown and asked, "You meet a new client?"
Jane replied, "It's Mr. Smith. He wants to upgrade the trial contract to a formal contract."
Hearing this, Sofia's heart sank. She would prefer that Jane had met some new customers. Why it was Edward again?
After she met Edward last time, Sofia's heart throbbed hard all day. It was clear that he was on Jane's side and embarrassing her. But she couldn't afford to offend this person at all. What she could do was to cater to him.
Just in a moment, she thought a lot in her mind. Sofia forced an unexpected smile and asked, "The probation period is over?"
Jane was also wondering about this and replied with a light smile, "Yes. Mr. Smith informed me suddenly. I don't have time to tell you. So, I bring him here."
Sofia cursed at her hypocrisy in her mind. She would never think that what Jane said was true.
Though she was extremely reluctant to see him, she didn't dare to let Edward wait. So she quickly stood up and followed Jane to the reception room. Without exception, they were stared by others all the way.
In the reception room, Edward was leaning on the sofa, wearing a black silk shirt. Ordinary people couldn't handle this kind of material, especially men. They might look sloppy and greasy. So, it was rare in daily life. But, Edward showed a natural laziness and freedom in the silk because of his handsome appearance and his good figure. He looked good in all kinds of clothes. Even if he wore a flour bag, people would praise it as performance art. It was not exaggerated.
Sofia was indeed afraid of him, but at the same time she admired him. Who would refuse a rich and handsome man like this?
After a brief look, Sofia immediately raised the corners of her lips and greeted politely and warmly, "Hello, Mr. Smith. I'm sorry for keeping you waiting."
Edward still looked arrogant and unruly. He said, "Then be quick. I'll sign a formal employment contract with Jane Cooper."
Sofia sat straight, not daring to say nonsense. She said with a smile, "How many classes are you going to sign? I'll have someone draw the contract right away."
Edward looked towards Jane as if Sofia wasn't there and asked, "How many?"
Jane didn't expect him to ask her. However, she hid the surprise in her eyes immediately and then replied with her expression unchanged, "Justin needs to take a lot of classes. If we take six classes every week, then there will be twenty-four classes a month. So, how about signing for three months?"
It was hard to see through Edward. Jane didn't know whether it was approval or a test for her. So, she gave an acceptable suggestion.
Hearing her words, Edward said without changing his face, "Don't make things so complex. Let's sign for one hundred first."
