Chapter 151 Being Frustrated For the First Time
Jane stayed at home all day, teaching online as usual. However, she would always lose her focus, thinking that last night Smith stopped midway and told her that he could help her, staring at her seriously and passionately.
If he forced her at that time, she couldn't resist at all. However, he didn't do that, so he was almost kind to her.
Before, she even refused Justin's invitation to his home. Now she felt quite unpleasant in her heart.
It is must be Hunter call Jennifer that Jane was on her period again, so they came to Jane's home uninvited. They brought a lot of things, including cooked and raw food, and they said they want to reward Jane.
Jane sat in the living room, and she heard arguments in the kitchen from time to time. Hunter said, "Hey, you shouldn't do it in that way."
Then, Jennifer said, "Why should I listen to you? I'm in charge of the kitchen."
They kept on arguing.
"I can't stir-fry if you process ingredients like this."
"Is the food you made eatable?"
"I remember that you really liked the steak I cooked."
"Was it because you were good at cooking? That was because the original steak itself was good."
"Why don't you say it was because of the pan?"
"Bingo, I'm about to say that."
Jane got a headache from their noises and raised her voice, saying, "Shut up, will you? I'm going to freak out."
Jennifer immediately said, "Copy that. Hunter kept chattering just now."
Hunter whispered, "Don't annoy her. She gets her period twice a month."
Jennifer said, "What's wrong with her? Endocrine disorder?"
Hunter answered, "Who knows. Maybe she is under a big pressure to deal with both the Smith and Perez families."
They started whispering instead of talking loudly. Jane felt that she was not in her right mind today, being half-hearted. She tried several times but still failed to be concentrated, so she put down the iPad, leaned back on the sofa, and closed her eyes to rest.
Once she closed her eyes, she would think of the situation last night. She was in a cold bathroom, sitting at the feet of Smith and looking up...
Jane opened her eyes in a hurry. She tried hard to discard her memory. She didn't know why she thought about this in the daytime.
On the coffee table, the phone screen lit up. Jane leaned over to get the phone, and saw that it showed the call from 'Edward Smith'.
Smith was looking for her?
Jane went back to the bedroom with her phone, and then she picked up the phone and tried to sound as normal as possible, saying, "Mr. Smith."
Smith's voice came from the phone, indifferent as usual, "I've asked people to check the villa, and it shows that there's nothing about the drug. If you had an accident in my place, I would definitely give you an explanation and wouldn't hide anything, but the results show that my place is safe. So, think about where you have gone to before coming to the villa and who you have had contact with."
Jane felt surprised at a moment. She believed that Smith would surely take the responsibility if his people did it. Therefore, if he said his place was safe, then Jane couldn't be drugged in the villa. Who did that? She only attended Cater's private party last night before going to the villa at Pearl Road, but would she be drugged on that occasion?
Jane replied to Smith, "Okay, I got it. Thank you, Mr. Smith."
Jane just replied to him after a pause, but Smith said in a deep voice, "They haven't cleaned the villa yet. If you don't believe in me, you can ask others to investigate, and I'll pay for it."
Jane immediately said, "No need. I believe you."
Smith kept silent for a moment and then said, "Last night, you were the victim, and I am more innocent than you. If you think that's done, we'll forget it. If you think you're still angry and wronged, you don't have to compromise. You can tell me your need anytime."
Naturally, her need was the resignation.
Jane lowered her eyes and replied to Smith calmly, "Sorry to bring you so much trouble. I believe in your results. That's done, and I won't talk about it again."
In the past, Smith would certainly get to the bottom to show his innocence or to take sides. However, this time, he only did what he needed to do, and he didn't care about the rest.
Finishing his words, Smith hang up the phone, and Jane, holding the phone, stood still.
Jane had to admit that last night when she noticed something was strange at first. She instinctively felt that Smith's people did something. Otherwise, she wouldn't be normal before she came to the villa.
However, Jane believed in Smith's words that his people didn't do that without any reason. Maybe she believed Smith because he believed her at once when someone disclosed the unreleased game skins.
She should be fair and put herself in his position.
However, if Smith was innocent, the problem would lie with Cater.
...
In the evening, Vincent asked Smith to hang out, but Smith didn't accept his invitation. Vincent asked other people and knew that Smith was resting at home because of sickness.
Vincent went to Smith's house at midnight and went upstairs straightly. Smith was calling to interface with the top executives. Noticing someone was coming, Smith raise his eyelids but found it was Vincent, so he focused on the call again speechlessly.
After the call, Smith pulled a long face and reached the cigarette box on the table, saying, "Who told you to come here?"
Vincent put the cake box on the table, sat down, and replied to Smith, "I bring you this."
Smith lit up a cigarette and said lightly, "Can't I afford it?"
Vincent looked at Smith with a half-smile and said, "Why are you sick? You even asked the family doctor to come. What happened last night on earth?"
Looking down, Smith dropped the cigarette ashes and said nonchalantly, "If you have something to tell me, I'll give you five minutes. If not, now just disappear immediately."
Vincent laughed and said, "What? Are you going to let some dogs bite me?"
Smith didn't want to talk to him.
Vincent asked, "Did you ask someone to investigate? Who drugged Jane last night?"
Smith still looked down and said, "Nothing is in the villa."
Vincent raised his eyes and said, "It has to be clean. Justin's birthday party was held in the villa last night, so the people who went to the villa were all acquaintances or people in your company. Who would dare to do something under your eyes? Besides, no one knew that Jane would come, and prepared to drug her in advance.
Smith kept silent. Vincent pondered for a moment and said to himself, "Could it be Ken Garcia?"
Last night Jane and Garcia were in the same place, no wonder that Vincent would think so. He thought Smith must also think so, but Smith said without expressions, "What do I care?"
Vincent raised his eyebrows and said, "Hey, someone troubled your people. Is it none of your business?"
Smith finished smoking a cigarette, and he stubbed the cigarette in the ashtray. He raised his eyelids and said indifferently, "She is also Henry's tutor."
Vincent said with a smile in his eyes, "If I'm going to help her out of trouble, will we have some special stories then?"
Smith said with a mockery, "You can have a try."
Smith finally understood what kind of people Jane was. He had helped her many times, but she never put him on her side. She might think that his people drugged her. Therefore, Smith wouldn't want to help her, which was a hard job but without any payment.
Vincent slightly narrowed his eyes. After examining Smith's face, he said, "I'm now incredibly curious about what happened last night. How did Jane hurt you on earth? My Edward is so angry."
Smith stared at Vincent with cold eyes. Vincent was not afraid to die, so he teased Smith, shaking his head slowly, "Tsk, tsk, tsk."
