Chapter 121 A Warning to Others
Howard was dazed and apprehensive, "Beth? What did she do?"
Edward said, "She ran up to me and told me what to do, saying that you have shares in my company, so she has the right to do it."
Howard was surprised. "She never mentioned it to me, and I don't know. Don't be angry. Please wait. I'll ask her..."
"Why bother? You don't need the few shares of my company. We will make it clear later. Thank you for your 'caring' over the past few years."
Others may not know, but Howard clearly knew who was taking care of whom between him and Edward. He could get tens of millions of dollars without doing anything every year. Where could he find such a good thing? The shares were what he tried hard to get originally, so how could he break off the relations with Edward?
"Edward, don't be angry. I'm not in the country all year round, and I don't have much contact with Beth. I really don't know what's going on in the country. Do me a favor. I'll go back to S City right away, and let's talk face-to-face."
Edward replied coldly, "If it's just business, I can do you a favor, but someone is always pushing her luck. I've had enough. Does she think she's the princess of S City? Anyway, I'm not worthy of her. Please tell her to stay away from me in the future. I don't owe the Brown family, and I've done you a favor that I should have. That's all, bye."
After giving vent to his anger twice in the evening, Edward almost cooled his temper.
Beth was Howard's half-sister. Howard's biological mother passed away early. The current Mrs. Brown was Beth's biological mother. It's said that she had some tricks, otherwise she would not have forced Howard to go abroad when he was a teenager and hardly return home once a year. One could imagine how bad the relationship between Howard and Beth could be.
Howard couldn't blame Edward for being ruthless. It was Beth who stirred things up first, and Edward had no choice but to fight back.
It was five o'clock in the morning, and there were still more than two hours. Time passed slowly, Edward thought.
Jane dozed fitfully for a while that night, but she didn't know that Edward stayed up all night.
...
Everyone was afraid of Edward that night, and by the way, they understood the truth that they must stay away from Jane. Only Beth was still in deep anger and wanted to destroy Jane.
Beth's phone was turned off, and Howard couldn't get through to her, so he simply called Beth's mother. Just after eight o'clock in the morning, when Beth was still lying in bed in a daze, the doorbell rang.
She was motionless and turned a deaf ear until she faintly heard a familiar voice calling her name.
Putting on her clothes, Beth got out of bed and opened the door. Wendy Roberts who looked nervous stood outside the door.
Beth walked back without saying a word. Wendy followed her closely into the house, and said anxiously, "What happened to you and Edward? Did you quarrel?"
Beth frowned and said nothing.
Wendy came from behind, glanced at her sideways, and then asked, "What's wrong with your face?"
Beth's face was much better than last night, on which the redness and swelling disappeared, but the marks of fingers could still be seen. Beth walked to the room, irritable, and refused to speak.
Wendy stretched out her hand to pull her, and Beth got mad instantly and said harshly, "Can you stop bothering me?"
Wendy saw the mess in the master bedroom, froze for a moment, and said, "Your brother called me early in the morning. He said that you caused trouble, and now Edward refuses to continue to cooperate with him and wants to return the shares to him. Howard has booked a flight ticket going back to S City."
Beth said expressionlessly, "Whatever! Who cares about his money?"
Wendy frowned, "Easy for you to say. You don't know how bad your brother's tone is on the phone. He's pissed at me because he couldn't find you."
Beth didn't speak, with her lips tightened. Wendy said to herself, "Your father is on a business trip. You'll see your brother will definitely tell your father. What the hell did you do outside? Why is Edward going to terminate their cooperation?"
It struck a nerve with Beth who said loudly, "He did it on purpose. He deliberately made Howard hate me!"
Wendy said, "What have you done to make him so angry?"
Beth said with grievance and resentment, her eyes filling with tears, "Am I worse than a tutor whose father is a fugitive and mother is a homewrecker? That woman teamed up with outsiders to deceive him, and he has at least lost tens of millions. Not only did he not blame her, but also he said that I was the mole..."
Wendy was puzzled. She only knew that there was a new tutor in the Smith family, and Beth didn't like her very much because the tutor was young and beautiful, so she asked, "The mole? What happened to Edward's company?"
Beth couldn't give vent to her grievances, so she complained to Wendy. After hearing this, Wendy sat aside with a serious expression and said after a while, "You are wrong."
Beth didn't agree. "What did I do wrong? Am I not nice enough to him, or didn't I indulge him? I truly like him. Is he blind? Couldn't he see my heart?"
Wendy said in a deep voice, "You must have heard that gentleness is more useful than toughness, but have you ever heard that it's good to be tough on your boyfriend? I told you a long time ago that men are soft-hearted, and you have to coax him. If you are tough, he will only be tougher. What's more, for someone like Edward, he has seen a lot of girls from illustrious families, and he must have a lot of talented beauties around him. You don't have a big advantage, except for the friendship between the Brown family and the Smith family. Look at you what you did. Edward called your brother in the early morning to terminate their cooperation. You know clearly whether your brother would give up easily. If your father knew that you had caused such a big trouble, he would not coddle you!"
Beth was reluctant to admit her mistakes, but she had already been afraid in her heart. During these years, Wendy and her and Howard mind their own business because there was no conflict of interest between them. When Howard grew up, any lack of love could be made up for by interests. If Howard's road of gaining money was cut off because of her, Howard would never consider the ties of kinship as her half-brother.
Seeing her fear, Wendy said, "The trouble was stirred up by you, so you need to clean up the mess. Call Edward to admit your mistakes. Men are soft-hearted. If you have a better attitude, he will not embarrass you."
Beth said with a long face, "It's impossible."
Wendy's face darkened. "An apology can exchange for peace between us and your brother, and it can also ensure peace in the family. If you continue to be self-willed, you may not be able to stay in this family. Let alone your father and brother, I will blame you for being thoughtless."
Beth pointed at her face and said, "How can I apologize to him? Jane slapped me in public! You and Dad had never done that. How could she?"
Though worried, Wendy took a deep breath and said, "You stirred up trouble. It was because you have no ability that you couldn't beat her. Since you lost, you have to admit it. The most important thing right now is not saving face, but the relationship between the Smith family and the Brown family. Do you really think that your father's official position is very high, and Edward Smith has to be afraid of our family? In fact, your father had to rely on the Smith family last year to keep his current position. You offended Edward because of such a trivial matter, so don't say I scare you. If your dad knows, he will slap you as well."
