Chapter 101 The Impressive Sincerity
Edward's face did not blush with embarrassment at all as he said "I like her. That's enough", which made Beth silent suddenly. She stared at him without blinking.
Edward said, "When your brother joined the company, he said he wanted me to take him to make money. It was not that I didn't have the money so as to force him to invest. He has not been at home these years. I gave him all dividends he deserves to take. He never horned in on my business. Now since you want to interfere, I can only give him a lump sum of shares. Then, in the future, outsiders should stop interfering in my business."
Beth hadn't recovered from the shock of the previous sentence when Edward insinuated that she was an "outsider". She had a sullen face, pretending to be calm. She wanted to complain bitterly, but she didn't dare to speak, fearing that she would lose her temper and lose the battle.
Beth was about to say more while Edward was too annoyed to spend time with her. Beth saw him take out his mobile phone and made a call. She didn't know who he was calling. Was it her brother?
"Jane, I'm coming over to you now."
Edward looked at Beth with half provocation and half indifference in his eyes.
Without waiting for Jane to answer, he hung up, stood up, and left.
Beth was so angry that she gripped the seat handle, "Edward!"
Edward didn't stop and said without looking back, "Stay away from the people around me. I'm warning you for the last time."
After he left, Beth's back was still stretched straight. She felt as if she was gripped by her throat. Her nose twitched and tears blurred her eyes. The sound of footsteps came behind her. Her heart fluttered with joy. She wondered that was he back?
"Miss Brown, I'm sorry. The boss asked me to lock up the office, so ......"
The assistant's sweet voice was apologetic. But it was still hard to hide the embarrassment. Beth didn't make any sound for a few seconds. By the time she stood up and turned her head, she had already been expressionless.
At 9 pm. Jane received a call from Edward out of the blue. He called her by her first name and also said succinctly that he was coming to see her. Then he hung up immediately. Hadn't he thought about how restless she would be?
The first thought that popped into her head was that they had known the leaker. And it was probably she who was under suspicion. How complicated people were! Sometimes they did nothing wrong, but they still felt restless.
She thought about calling Edward back to ask him about it. But he hung up in a hurry, which meant that he didn't want to talk about it over the phone.
Twenty-five minutes later, Edward's call came, and Jane answered at once.
"Mr. Smith."
"I'm downstairs at your house."
"Just a moment, I'll be right there."
Jane had already dressed up. She put on her shoes and quickly went downstairs. Edward was standing next to his car and smoking in a short leather jacket. The wind blew and lifted the hem of his shirt. He had a buzz cut, so his hair remained in place. It was rare to see a man with a buzz cut on the street these days. Edward was handsome enough to have any kind of hair style.
Jane walked quickly, even running to him. Edward was looking away, but he turned his head unintentionally, and caught a glimpse of Jane in black sportswear. She combed her long hair into a ponytail. Without makeup on her face, she looked like a high school student.
When their eyes met, Jane stopped a meter in front of him and asked, "Mr. Smith, what's the matter? Why do you come to me so late?"
Edward had thought about it all the way here but found no good excuse for it, so he said, "Someone has followed you recently. Haven't you noticed that?"
A hint of confusion crossed Jane's eyes, "No, what's wrong?"
Edward said, "Beth asked someone to follow you."
Jane's quick thinking reminded her of Ken immediately. She had just met Ken tonight, and then Edward himself came here for her. It couldn't be a coincidence.
Jane blinked and said, "She told you I met Ken tonight, didn't she?"
Edward gave a "hmm" and didn't deny it.
Jane said, "I just wanted to go and see what Ken would say about the game. He didn't admit that they plagiarized our game."
In fact, Edward didn't think much of that, probably because everyone around him was "against" Jane, which inspired him with a kind of rebellious mentality. He thought that she would definitely not betray him.
Jane was talking about the game, which made Edward surprised, "You asked him yourself directly?"
Jane nodded.
Edward asked, "You're not afraid of offending him?"
Jane said, "I was afraid before. But now I'm more afraid of getting too close to him. But, because once I kept the phone, I have to inform him. If he knows who the leaker is, I beg him to be kind to clarify it for me and not drag me into the mire."
From the first time Jane had met Edward, she had learnt that it was better not to pretend to be clever in front of a real smart one. It was better to say what you had to say than to hide it and be misunderstood.
And she had to guard against Ken, in case he would frame her in the future. At that time, her explanation would be totally useless. So, it was better to report it to Edward now. As for whether Edward would trust her, that was none of her business.
Edward has met the calculative girls and the straightforward girls before. But he has never met someone like Jane, the combination of them. Even if Jane had really cooperated with Ken and Ken had yelled that Jane was the mole, he would have to hesitate and think twice about it.
Looking at Jane, Edward said with a lukewarm expression, "At this point, we all choose to keep away from the people of Oriental Journey. You know that Ken wouldn't say anything, so why did you come to him?"
Jane said, "I would have no qualms about the game that was leaked if I asked Ken. I've known Justin for a few months. You and your family have treated me well. So, I should do something to help you on this occasion, even though I know it won't help much."
At the end, she smiled apologetically. Edward was rarely soft-hearted, but at this moment, his was touched.
His face was emotionless as he said, "You don't need to get involved in what's going on between me and Ken. You don't need to feel guilty. I said I believed you, and I won't suspect anyone around me unless the evidence is in front of me. As for the investigation, you don't need to worry about it, either. Just take care of Justin for me."
Jane responded, "I will. Hope this problem the will be solved soon."
Edward said, "The new skin is on the way."
He said it particularly naturally, as if he blurted it out automatically without thinking. After saying that, he realized that there was no need to say it to her.
Jane was curious. She raised her eyes and asked, "You've already worked on new skins? Then, have you still investigated the leak about the game?"
Edward replied honestly, "Well, two groups of people are working in tandem."
Jane said, "That's good. You can minimize the losses."
Seeing her serious look, Edward suddenly couldn't help asking, "Are you afraid of losing your job?"
