Chapter 149 It's the Same Cold Water and Illness
She slept soundly, and she did not even dream. In a trance, she heard some noises as if someone was talking. Jane gradually regained her consciousness. She was still worried when she was muddle-headed. She was living alone. How would she hear others' voices?
She finally opened her eyes, and she saw a strange scene. She could clearly hear someone whispering behind her, She then turned around. There was a patient on the neighboring bed. The doctor was hanging the IV drip and was about to give the patient a shot.
"You're awake?"
When the doctor saw her turn around, he tilted his head and asked her.
Jane was stupefied for two seconds. She was slow in response.
The doctor gave the patient a shot. On the other hand, Jane put on her shoes and got out of bed. She walked outside with the doctor to pay him and thank him.
The doctor was a middle-aged man. Wearing a white coat, he appeared kind and amiable. He did not manage to say anything last night before she lay down and dozed off. Now he finally grabbed the chance to advise her. "You just had an IV drip. You've got to have breakfast later."
Jane answered and said, "Do you need to prescribe medicine for me?"
The doctor said, "You had a fever last night, and you had cold symptoms. I suggest you take another shot and see your later recovery before we decide whether to prescribe medicine for you or not."
Jane asked, "Then when should I get another shot?"
The doctor replied, "Tomorrow. It's too close today. Come again tomorrow."
Jane nodded and thanked him again. She then left the clinic. It was very sunny outside. She checked the time before. It was now nearly nine o'clock.
Luckily it was Sunday today, so she did not have to go to work.
After a shot, she felt much more at ease. She just felt weak now, and her whole body did not ache like yesterday. She bought a bowl of porridge at a shop nearby. She then went home to have breakfast.
At more than ten o'clock, Aaron called her. "You dated the two kids, right? Is it still the same time today?"
Jane said, "I've got something going on today. I'm about to call them and cancel it this week."
Aaron asked, "What's the matter?"
Jane could not bring herself to say that she was too weak and that she could not kick the ball. Besides, she was afraid of infecting them. Hence, she could only say, "My period."
Aaron was rather surprised. "So soon? I remembered you just had it."
Jane rolled her eyes. "You accidentally show what a pervert you are. Why do you remember this kind of thing?"
Aaron said, "You always bring along dark chocolate and a thermos when you're on your period. I don't want to remember it, but I'm not blind."
Jane could not refute that. She could not even tease him for having a crush on her, because he liked men.
Aaron said, "Your period is always on time. What happened? Did you suffer any blow?"
Suddenly, Jane recalled the scene in the cold bathroom. The color of the bathroom was cold as well as the water. Edward's face was colder.
She could not help but think of his body when she recalled his face, especially some part of his body that remained high. She did not want to be overthinking, so she asked, "I've got no idea."
Aaron said, "Do you want me to go to the hospital with you?"
Jane became amused. She asked, "Aren't you afraid of being seen by people of Forward Education? They'll then say that you go to the OB-GYN with me for my check-up."
Aaron replied, "If it's the people from the company, they'll tell tales and say that I go with you for an abortion."
Jane burst into laughter.
They were joking around in their call. Halfway through the call, someone else called Jane. She glanced at it and found that it was a call from Justin.
She then told Aaron about it before she hung up his call and answered Justin's call. "Hello?"
Justin's voice came over. "I won't go to your house today. You can just date Henry."
That was what Jane wanted to say, but Justin beat her to it. So, she asked, "What's wrong?"
Justin replied, "Uncle Edward is sick."
There was a slight change in Jane's expression. They were drenched in cold water for a few dozen minutes last night. When they went out, she was wrapped in a long coat. However, Edward had only a short coat. Consequently, she got a fever in the middle of the night. He would not be any better.
"Is it serious?" asked she.
Justin replied, "The doctor came and is now giving him a shot."
Jane knew that Edward did not even like having medicine. If he was not sick to a certain extent, he would not ask the doctor to go to his house. Having a complicated emotion, she said to Justin what she did not manage to say to Edward the night before. "Then take care of him at home. He's got to eat after the shot. You've to force him to eat if he doesn't want to. If not, it'll be bad for his stomach. He needs to drink more water too."
After a brief silence, Justin asked, "Can you come to my house?"
Jane could imagine Justin's current expression. He would appear slightly helpless and dependent on her. She was soft-hearted last time, so she stayed. But this time around...
"I've got something going on this afternoon. If you didn't call me, I would have called you. I can't go today."
Justin said, "Alright, I'm hanging up."
After the call, Jane fell into thoughts. She did not know if her action was right or not. Edward got sick from helping her. But last night, he revealed that kind of expression more than once. He actually wanted that. One's body reaction was the most honest.
She could understand his words. He was a man, and she refused him clearly. Adults should be frank with each other. There was no need to be shady. When he was sick last time, she cooked him noodles. She just did that incidentally. But if she went to his house out of her initiative that day, people might think that she was too eager. It would seem ambiguous too.
Jane was most afraid of ambiguity in a relationship.
After all, she was used to being an ungrateful person. She did not mind acting that way again.
...
At the Smith family, Justin came to the door of Edward's bedroom. He saw a person lying flat in bed with an IV drip hanging on a clothes rack beside him. He did not even touch the food on the plate at the side. Besides, he remained static with his eyes closed as if he had fallen asleep.
Justin softened his footsteps as he walked forward. Before he walked to the bed, he heard Edward say with his eyes closed, "Don't come to this room. It's contagious."
Justin stood on the spot. "Uncle Edward, didn't you eat anything? The doctor said you've got to eat some. You can't stay hungry."
Edward said, "I'll eat it later."
Justin took a few steps forward again and came to the bedside. He looked at Edward and said, "Eat now. Let me feed you."
When Justin was sick during his childhood, Edward fed him food. Hence, Justin thought that the best treatment that one could get when one was sick was having one feed them food.
Edward frowned slightly, and his eyebrows fluttered. But he was too lazy to open his eyes, so he said with a deep voice, "Go out right away. Do you want to get a shot too?"
Justin continued to coax him. "I'll go after you eat something."
The whole room was filled with a stagnant air of illness. Besides, Edward felt dizzy. If it was not so unbearable, he would not ask someone to get a doctor for him. He just wanted to lie a while in peace. But a noisy person was standing beside him.
He opened his eyes, and his breath was hot. "Who taught you to pester me like this?"
Justin saw that Edward's eyes were bloodshot. It was because he exhausted himself in the middle of the night, having a hard time.
Edward said such stern words while his eyes appeared so. The moment he said those words, he regretted it. He should not vent his bad emotion on Justin. The child just celebrated his thirteenth birthday the day before.
He secretly adjusted his breathing. As he was about to change his tone, he did not expect to hear Justin say calmly, "I'll take it away if you don't want to eat it. Go to sleep."
After that, he turned around to pick up the tray.
Edward stopped him. "Hey."
Justin turned around. Edward said, "I'm not mad at you. Just don't come here often. This room is filled with foul air. How can you go to school if you're sick?"
Justin said, "Why did you explain it to me? I'm not a kid. Go to sleep. I'll cook something you like."
Edward wanted to say that it was fine. But he felt weak, and he did not want to rain on Justin's parade either. Looking at him as he left, Edward closed his teary eyes. He sighed secretly that the brat had finally grown up. If it happened in the past, he would be sulky secretly.
