Chapter 148 He's a Man, Not a Saint
Jane leaned against Edward's arms. She was tense all over right at the beginning, but she dozed off at some point. She then opened her eyes in a daze. Both she and Edward were facing each other. Edward pushed away her heavy bathrobe to hug her. But she immediately hid behind. Seeing that, Edward remained quiet and refrained from hugging her waist.
He did not even move. But suddenly, her legs went limp. When she collapsed, she instinctively grabbed his sleeves. But Edward did not help her up. He just let her sit beside his feet.
Jane no longer felt hot. Besides, her heart became cold. She was now fully conscious.
She could see Edward's drenched trousers. She wanted to stand up, but her whole body ached. She tried several times, but she could not exert any force. She then heard the man's familiar voice. "Do you need my help?"
Jane then gradually raised her head. As she was looking up, she saw the place between his legs. The drenched trousers stuck to his legs, and she could see the shape and outline clearly. That was the only place of his body that she had never seen before. At that moment, he was showing how powerful it conspicuously was to her though he meant the opposite.
Jane might become dumbfounded by the cold water. She stared at it without blinking. She then heard him say from above her. "I'll think that you regret it if you act like this."
Jane continued to look up at him. His expression looked colder than the water on the floor, and this kind of gaze knocked some senses into her. She averted her gaze and put her palms on the floor, trying to support herself to get up.
Edward glanced at her aloofly for a few seconds. He then bent down and carried her with one hand. Jane paled, but her black eyes looked witty. Her thoughts were shown perfectly in her eyes.
She was nervous and scared. Her eyes were full of vigilance.
Edward said to her, "There's nothing to be surprised about. I'm a man, not a saint."
Jane tried her best to swallow and said softly, "Thank you, Mr. Smith."
Edward said, "Don't play dumb with me. You don't have to say that if you don't want to."
Jane was exhausted, but she had to force herself to treat him seriously. After all, he was Edward. She succumbed to this state because of some kind of reason, but he was the one who helped her. Besides, he did not take advantage of her when she was down.
Glancing down, Jane said, "I'm sorry."
Edward still wore no expression. "You met with an accident at my place, so I'll answer for this. When I find out the truth, I'll tell you. But I've got to remind you. It might not necessarily be because of my people. Many pills start to show effects after more than two hours. Although I've got a bad reputation, this kind of affair is always done under the consent of both parties. I don't have to go to the trouble of using a despicable trick to sleep with a woman."
He was really mad. But technically, Jane's morality was tested again. But in other words, she had a good moral standing. But was he so bad? He did not drug her, and he helped her. But in the end, she guarded herself against him the most.
He once took a fancy to her alienation, but now he hated that.
He foresaw all her thoughts. Besides, he was frank while she bowed her head in silence.
The effect of the drug had subsided. But after drenching herself in cold water for more than forty minutes, Jane felt dizzy and weak. As long as Edward let go of her now, she would collapse on the spot.
Edward found that he was speaking out of spite, and he was still grabbing her arm. It looked like he was being contradictory.
After a brief silence, he took the lead and asked, "Can you walk on your own?"
Jane did not dare to act strong, and she was not confident too. She said gently, "Please help me up."
Edward let her support herself with one of his arms. She forced herself to step forward, but her long legs were useless. They went limp instantly. When Edward saw that she was about to fall, he helped her up with another hand. Consequently, Jane leaned close to his chest when she was conscious. He almost gave her a vague hug.

He might have felt that it was rather slow, so in the next second, he bent down and carried her. He did not care if she was okay with it or not.
Jane panicked, so she clenched her fists to conceal her inward anxiety.
Edward carried her out of the washroom. It was very warm and bright outside, but there was no one around.
He put her on the sofa. She lowered her eyes to refrain from looking at his face. Consequently, she accidentally saw the thing between his legs again. It seemed to get worse.
She glanced at it quickly but averted her gaze quickly too. However, Edward still saw what she did. He got into a rage, so he purposely said, "Don't flirt with me if you're not interested."
But Jane felt hot all over, and she blushed in a second. She nearly thought that the effect of the drug had not subsided.
Edward looked down at her. After a brief silence, he asked, "Do you want to take a bath?"
Jane's shoulders became tense vividly. It seemed like Edward had been infuriated by her repeatedly until his feelings turned numb. He said gradually, "We'll take a hot bath separately."
Jane shook her head. Edward then said, "Let me give you a ride home."
He found her coat before he threw it at her. Jane wrapped it around her body. She then gave it a try and found that she could stand up and walk. After they walked out of the villa, the weather outside immediately made her shudder because of her exposed trouser leg. Only then did Jane realize it all too late. She raised her head to steal a glance at Edward. He was only wearing a short coat, and his clothes and trousers were drenched.
Jane wanted to say something but she found it hard to do so.
The journey from the villa back to Rhine Garden was not short. They remained silent throughout the journey as if they were back to how they were at the very beginning. But there was another different awkwardness in it.
Edward turned on the heater in the car. Jane took the shotgun seat. She felt cold and hot intermittently. She nearly dozed off. When they finally arrived at the destination, Edward stopped the car. Jane unbuckled the seatbelt normally and said gently, "Thank you, Mr. Smith."
Edward ignored her.
Jane opened the car door and got out. Before she left, the car was driven away. She actually wanted to inquire about his well-being, but she could not bring herself to do that.
When she was at school, some men were especially nice to her. But others would always see her as a cold and aloof person in the end. If she did not have a few besties, she would think that she was just like what everyone else said and that she was a cold person who could never warm up to anyone.
But she just did not want others to get the wrong idea. If she did not feel that way, she would not give them any hints.
There was some distance from the door of the neighborhood to her house. She walked three times slower than how she was used to. She felt very dizzy too. Besides, she was fancying wild thoughts. How could she face Edward from now on after what happened that day? In addition, he was clearly annoyed.
She was slowly back at her home. She then took off her wet clothes and forced herself to take a hot bath. But she was too weak to blow her hair dry. So, she ate a few pills before she lay in bed. She just wished that she would not catch a cold.
She did not doze off, feeling dizzy. She woke up in the middle of the night because of her sweating. She then turned on the bedside lamp. It was 4.10 in the morning, and it was still dark out.
Other than suffering from menstrual pain during these years, she was never a person who would easily fall sick. Based on her limited sick experiences, she had to go to the hospital to get a shot. If not, she would not make it.
She got out of bed, but she did not call Aaron. She put on sports attire and went downstairs. Luckily, she saw a private clinic behind the building when she went to buy ingredients at the market recently. The clinic was still open.
Jane fell into a bed at the clinic after she arrived there. She simply told them her symptoms. After they put an IV drip on her, she immediately dozed off and ceased struggling.
