Chapter 147 Mind Yourself, Mr. Smith
His tone was playful, mixed with some real threat from a man.
Jane said nothing. She buried her head in his chest and held her own arms tightly. When he tried to lower down a little bit, she immediately tensed all over her body.
The water was too cold.
There was heat in the whole villa, but the restroom still felt shadowy and cold. Besides, there was a pool of cold water inside, which was unbearable.
Edward took a deep breath, stood up straight and held Jane up.
Jane was very dizzy, she closed her eyes and the dizziness receded a little bit. Her remained sense told her that she was being held by Edward. But she had no idea where he was going or what he was going to do. She instinctively thought she should do something and quietly moved her hand to the back of his neck, wanting to grasp his hair.
But what she forgot was that he had a buzz cut and his hair was too short to be grasped.
It was quiet outside. Edward figured that everyone should have left and was thinking taking her out while he felt some stroking on the back of his head. Oh, not stroking, it felt heavier than stroking. It was finger nails scratching across his scalp and trying to grasp on something...
Reckoning what had happened, Edward didn't need to think much to figure out Jane's plan.
Edward put Jane down besides the bathtub which is next to the wall and looked down at her impassively, "You have pinched and beat me today, now you are trying to grab my hair?"
Jane was still feeling bad all over her body and it seemed to be getting worse. She leaned on the wall weakly and dropped her eyes, her lips trembling. She thought of Aaron and Jennifer. Or anyone she could trust would be better than this man in front of her.
Looking at Jane who was all wet and pitiful, Edward had no intention to argue with her any more. He held out his hand, trying to pull her up and go to the hospital. However, Jane responded quickly. She raised her arm and slammed his hand away, avoiding any physical contact with him.
She did this subconsciously. Edward frowned and his eyes changed.
He thought he treated her nicely and never wanted to bully her even if she was being nothing friendly. But Jane never trusted him. She was always alerted in front of him. Though she tried to keep a courtesy manned when she was awake, she revealed her true thoughts completely now when she was weak.
He was very careful with her, but she was of all nerves. What was the point?
"No hospital?"
The shadow of Edward's high figure darted over Jane. She stayed in the darkness but if she raised her head, she would find he was unhappy. Only she didn't have the strength to raise up anymore.
Edward waited for a moment silently, then he went to get the shower, turned on the faucet and sprayed water right on Jane's face when he returned.
The water flow was strong. Jane was suffering in the high fever the last minute, but now with the intense and rushing cold water dashing on her face, she couldn't breath. She tried to grab on something, but there was nothing ahead and she could only cover her face with her both hands.
Edward's face was blank. He seized every chance to spray on her face while her hands were fumbling all over to resist. Jane closed her eyes and dodged as if she was blind. She reached her hand for the edge of the bathtub but didn't succeed. She slipped into the void and uncontrollably fell down in the bathtub.
Cold. Her clothes from head to toe were soaked wet by the cold water in an instant. She felt not only the coldness but also the unavoidable feeling of being suffocated. She kept muddling with all her strength in the bathtub. Actually, if she could only roll over on her back, she would be fine. But she was almost unconscious.
She thought she was going to die. Water was splashed into her nostrils. Then a pictured appeared in her mind, it was the time when she and Aiden Cater having dinner together. Would Aiden have any trouble if she died like this?
Splash. Jane was pulled out from the bathtub like a child, two hands under her armpits lifting her up. Edward wrapped her casually with a bath robe and asked, "Better?"
Jane's face was pale, her teeth shuddering and her whole body shivering.
Edward continued, "Some medicine is only effective for a short time, around half an hour. Don't need go to the hospital if you are feeling better now. "
Jane couldn't utter any words, staring at a certain spot. But she literally looked more sober.
Edward supported Jane with one of his hands and the other grabbing the shower, "Anyway, you've suffered so much, hang on there."
The shower was turned on again. But Edward didn't spray on her face this time, instead, water was pouring down over her head. Jane couldn't open her eyes and kept her lips tightly closed. The water from the shower didn't seem so cold anymore comparing to the water in the bathtub. It almost felt kinda warm.
Being wrapped by the bathrobe, Jane was totally cold all over her body and couldn't see that Edward was all wet too, who was staring at her without a blink. His eyes were complicated.
Suddenly, the water above her head was withdrawn. Jane opened her mouth a little bit and started catching her breath. She was getting more sober after all this. It actually worked. However, only the outside skin was cold, the fever under the skin was still rumbling, ready to resurge anytime.
A single spark can ignite a big fire. Jane was wondering why Edward stopped the water, a low-key voice came, "You don't need suffer all this, I can help you."
She slowly opened her eyes and she the wet shirt sticking on the man's chest. Jane didn't see his face for his head was right over her ears and next to her face.
Edward still supported her with one hand and the other hand holding the shower which was still spraying water. The water wetted his pants.
It was quiet in the bathroom, looking messy beside the bathtub. Edward lowered his head and probed. If Jane would nod...
"Mr. Smith, please mind yourself."
Jane was still shivering, her lips pale but her words audible.
Edward slowly raised his head and looked down at her, "No?"
Once the cold water was turned off, Jane's skin was warming up again. It's not normal. She greeted her teeth and said firmly, "No."
No matter Edward was asking for her permission or threatening, she had to answer since he asked.
She would not agree.
Edward's eyes looked the same as the first time they met, cold, proud, lazy and arrogant. Jane was a little afraid but not truly scared for she knew very well that she was dealing with a tiger. When she chose to deal with someone like this, she knew the consequence.
The two of them looked at each other for a moment and then Edward suddenly turned her around, her back against him. Jane couldn't resist at all, she didn't even scream. But what happened next was not sexual amusement but the familiar cold water flow.
She couldn't see Edward, but she knew that he was still holding her on her waist.
The cold water kept running and the bath robe got soaked. Jane had been numb without any feeling of coldness. She actually felt comfortable.
Edward's right arm had been up for such a long time holding the shower and he himself was all soaked too. He should have let her be or call for a private doctor over, which would be much better than this kind of salvation.
The thing was that he thought he was saving her while Jane would not think so at all. She had never took him as a good man. He should have acted like a bad man as she wished. Another kind of bad reputation wouldn't bother him anyway.
But somehow his actions were not in line with his thoughts. He even wanted to slap on her face and asked her to see that he was not that bad as she thought.
