Chapter 130 Gotcha
Beth kept lowering her head, taking Edward and Jane as air. Although Howard felt angry, he couldn't say anything directly and just treated Beth as if she didn't exist. Howard smiled and nodded to Jane, saying, "I guess you guys are coming, so let's sit inside."
They walked toward the private room. Ken looked at Beth who stood up to Howard, saying with a half-smile, "What does your brother mean, being defiant?"
Beth felt a hardness in her throat, and Ken still added fuel to the fire, which made her even angrier.
Ken had already guessed why Beth invited him to dinner suddenly. She asked him out not because of Howard but because of Jane, and she wanted to hit back at Edward with Ken, who was Edward's top rival.
Such a fool who wished jellyfish.
With the same expression on his face, Ken said as usual, "Don't worry. I'll help you later."
Beth raised her eyes and said, "What are you going to do?"
Ken picked up the serving chopsticks and served her some food, saying with confidence, "Let's eat first and see the fun later."
Beth didn't pay attention to what food Ken served her, which was a piece of meat from a pig face. Her head was full of thoughts about how to deal with Edward later.
In the past, when she was on the same side with Edward, she would take any chance to keep far away from Ken. However, now she wanted Ken to fight Edward to the end, so she could be deeply relieved by doing something bad.
In the private room of the same restaurant, Howard treated Jane in an extremely polite manner and let her order food.
Jane was equally polite to Howard. She acted detached, rational, and good-tempered, which made people feel that she was not so generous to talk.
Howard originally thought that Jane would be hubris because she stepped up from the inferior. She was also under Edward's umbrella, and she could have nothing to fear. However, on the contrary, when she sat there, she not only kept a serious confrontation with Howard but also kept a subtle rejection of Edward.
Howard was confused whether he was wrong, or Edward liked women of such a lukewarm type.
In fact, what Jane thought was very simple. Firstly, she certainly wouldn't forgive Beth. Secondly, she didn't need to be arrogant since Edward was here.
Howard sent the menu to Edward and let him order some dishes. Edward slowly lit a cigarette and naturally handed the menu to Jane, saying, "Choose the dishes you like."
Jane didn't stand on ceremony. She knew that Edward was helping her.
After ordering the dishes, Howard smiled and said, "What for drinking?"
Jane said, "I don't drink wine because I need to attend classes."
Howard smiled and nodded. He looked at the other side then, saying, "Edward, how about you?"
Edward said, "Whatever."
Observing that Howard was looking down at the page of drinks, Jane couldn't help but inclined her head and said in a very low voice, "You are still a little sick, so you'd better not drink."
It was very quiet in the room, so Howard still heard it although Jane's voice was very low. He raised his head, looking at the two people with amazement in his eyes and saying, "Is Edward sick?"
Edward said as usual, "Nothing. It's a dinner to welcome your arrival."
In fact, there was no conflict between Edward and Howard. The conflict in the past was about Beth and had nothing to do with Howard. Edward didn't intend to embarrass Howard.
Howard said, "Have you taken medicine? If you have taken the medicine, you can't drink."
Jane was afraid that Edward said he didn't, so she preempted, "He has taken the medicine."
Howard looked at Jane with a flash of meaningfulness in his eyes. Edward also looked at Jane. She couldn't hide from him, so she whispered, "I put some medicine in the ginger cola."
Edward looked as usual, but he felt changeable emotions in his heart. He thought he was young and strong, so he could recover from the sickness after a meal and sleep. It turned out that he didn't know that he had taken the medicine.
He also thought that Jane had used this trick to deal with Justin before, and now she even dared to use it again on him.
Jane could guess what Edward was thinking, so she had to "betray" Justin. She said as usual, "Justin did that.
."
Edward thought, "Did he dare to do that if you didn't ask him?"
Observing that Jane was trying to cover him, Howard hurriedly said, "Then, we don't drink wine. I don't really want to drink wine either, and we can order some soup and soft drinks."
The waiter took the menu and left. Howard poured a cup of tea, looked at Jane, and said, "Miss Cooper, thank you for coming here today. This is our first meeting, and I don't want to leave a bad impression on you before we know each other. I toast you with a cup of tea, and I hope it's not too late for us to know each other from now on."
He turned the cup of tea to Jane, and Jane took it naturally and gracefully. She smiled lightly and said, "Mr. Brown, you're welcome. Since this is our first meeting, of course, there is no bad impression left. I also toast you with a cup of tea. It is hard to travel a long way back to S City."
They toasted each other with a cup of tea. Howard said with emotion, "At first glance, Miss Cooper is a reasonable person. So in front of Edward, I also don't need to hide something. Beth is my half-sister, and we have the same father. I'm more than ten years older than her, and I went abroad when she was still very young. I don't have much affection for her except the kinship."
Howard continued, "She grew up around her parents. My father is too busy to care about her, so her mother took the responsibility to raise her and teach her. It's fine that she is just a spoiled child, but if she troubles others, it is improper. She has done such a shameful thing, and I, to be honest, am embarrassed to see you and Edward. She has disgraced the whole Brown Family."
Howard said while sighing. Edward kept silent and smoked as usual. Jane even didn't say anything.
"Miss Cooper, I have nothing to hide. I don't expect you to forgive her, but I only hope that you don't blame her. Our family will educate her well, and we won't let her trouble you anymore. I don't want my father to be angry after knowing what has happened, or he may be sick then. Could you please fulfill my wish to care about my father as a son? I can only partake in this for him."
Howard knew that he needed to touch the Achilles' heel when persuading others. Therefore, before coming, he knew about Jane's family and the whole process of which Beth was beaten.
People would definitely be irritated when others scold their parents.
Since Jane cared a lot about her parents' reputation, it meant that she subconsciously valued kinship very much. It was more useful for him to persuade her with kinship than anything else.
However, Howard only knew the surface, and he didn't know that Jane was pretty vindictive at the same time.
For people like Beth, she would never forgive in her life.
Therefore, no matter how touching Howard's words were, it was all the same to Jane. She still repeated her previous words, "I said the same thing on the phone before. The matter between me and Beth is over, and no matter right or wrong, I won't trouble your family. Don't worry, Mr. Brown. As long as she doesn't trouble me anymore, I won't be aggressive, either."
Howard said in his heart, "You will not, but Edward will." As long as Jane still showed no mercy tonight, Edward would definitely return his shares.
While Howard was thinking about how to persuade Jane in other ways, the door of the private room was suddenly opened. The door was directly pushed open without a knock. They looked toward the door but saw a familiar man. He was calm and at ease with the feeling of inviting himself.
It was Ken Ken.
