Chapter 127 Without Charms and Ability
"You even forgot me? Now I realize that if you find something good, you'll think of your dad first," Edward snorted silently.
"I just don't think you and Bad Teacher are suitable for each other," Justin replied very calmly.
"Why are we not suitable?" Edward put on an asking expression.
"If you two date each other but break up, how could she come to our home? If that happens, everyone will be embarrassed because we often see each other, but it will be different if she is with my dad. My dad doesn't come home frequently. Absence makes the heart grow fonder."
"It seems that you've been thinking about it for a long time," Edward said with a faint smile.
"Do you really think I care about nothing?" Justin asked.
"You think about this all day long, and that means you care?" Edward narrowed his eyes and asked.
"It's easy to get a girlfriend, but it's hard to get a wife. I've met one with good conditions, and this rarely happens. Of course, I'll think for you people."
"What kind of magic motion has Jane poured down your mouth? It's just been a few months, but you've begun planning her future for her?" Edward asked with confusion.
"I just think that she'll be a good wife and mother. By the way, she also made a cake for you!" Justin glanced at the bowl in front of them and said.
Edward was slightly surprised, thinking, "Boiling noodles is fine, but she also made a cake?"
"I asked her many times if she was interested in you," Justin said.
"What did she say?" Edward raised his eyebrows and asked.
"She said she would return the favor she owed you... Uncle, you seem not good enough!"
Justin studied Edward and found that it was hard to tell his expression with a few simple words.
"What do you mean by that?" Edward frowned a bit.
"You're handsome and rich. If it is not for the thing that you don't have enough charms and ability, why is Bad Teacher not interested in you at all?" Justin analyzed.
Edward's charms and ability were doubted for the first time in his life. Hearing it, he was angry but chuckled, with an impulse to tell him about those women pursuing him crazily outside. It was not that he was not good enough, but that he didn't appreciate them, okay?
After dryly smiling for a few seconds, Edward calmed down. This was not the time to be serious, and he shouldn't take offense at the child's words because the child was ignorant. Instead, he should convince him by reasoning.
"This can further prove that the proposal you came up with earlier was a fallacy. It's not that others will like you because you're rich and have a good reputation. Do you understand?"
"She doesn't like you, but it doesn't mean that she doesn't like my dad. After all, my dad enjoys a better reputation." Justin said.
Having been denied several times, Edward finally couldn't help but say, "You want to kill me with your words while I'm sick, right?"
"You said that if they have something to say, men should talk to each other directly and that they shouldn't choose the indirect way or cover anything up, just like women," Justin replied with a not-hiding-anything expression.
"I'm not asking you to hide anything. I'm just trying to correct your view. Loving or not is not so skin deep as measuring looks, money, and reputation," Edward explained.
"What should people take into account if they ignore these things?" Justin asked.
"One's character is very important. One's appearance only lasts for a short time, but a correct worldview is a long-term guarantee," Edward shook but defended himself.
"Then Bad Teacher doesn't like your looks or your worldview?" Justin asked.
Edward looked sullen because of his illness and anger. Pursing his nice lips, he was silent for a long while before saying, "Now I can tell you that she won't want a stepson like you."
Lowering his eyes, Justin said with a strong sense of righteousness, "I just hope that my dad will have someone to look after him. As for me... I still have you. He doesn't have to care about me."
Edward felt sorry for him and also wanted to laugh. It seemed that Justin wanted his dad Gary to have a happy life, and he would live with his uncle alone until they died. This was a clear arrangement.
"Forget about it. If you have time, think about your own affairs. You don't have to care about me and your dad." Edward subconsciously picked up the cigarette pack, hoping to placate himself with nicotine.
Justin rose, picked up the two bowls, and said, "Your noodles aren't suitable to eat anymore. I'll ask someone to warm your cake and bring it upstairs for you."
While walking outside, Justin turned around and said, "Don't forget to drink the ginger cola."
Edward picked up the cup and drank the rest of the cola in one gulp. It tasted a little strange, but it was acceptable.
After Justin left, Edward, who was sitting on the sofa alone in the living room, thought if he should call Gary, asking him to come back at the end of this month because Justin missed him very much. Yet, Edward knew more clearly than anyone about the reason why Gary didn't want to come back. Even if he told him, it would only give him more pressure but wouldn't help with the situation.
Anyway, either Gary or Justin would be sad.
He was in a trance when someone knocked on the door. It was the servant who had come to send the warmed cake. Different from what he imagined, this one didn't have cream or chocolate, but was a simple sesame cake.
He used the spoon to scoop up a piece, which was fluffy and soft. Before it came to his mouth, he had smelled its fragrance.
Jane had just put a small amount of xylitol, and its original sesame fragrance remained. She didn't know whether Edward would like it or not, but she was a little worried that he would have hyperglycemia, hypertension, and hyperlipidemia if he ate sweet food all day long. What she didn't know was that Edward only put a little sugar into the cakes he usually ate at home. In fact, he simply liked the shapes of cakes rather than sweet food.
After eating two mouthfuls, Edward simply picked up the cake, leaned against the back of the sofa, and ate it with a spoon while pondering over Justin's words: a good wife and mother.
She was good at cooking and taking care of children, but she was not docile or virtuous. This could be proven by the thing that she asked Beth to have a fight late at night. She was a "sleeping volcano", which meant that she might explode at any time.
Beth investigated her background information and found out that her dad was at large and that her mother was...
If he wanted her information, Edward only needed to give a word, but he didn't want it and wasn't interested. What he needed was her own ability, not her parents' abilities, but now he even became curious about what she had gone through and how she had become what she was now. Was it an adaptation or a disguise?
She always covered her vigilance with her smiling face because she felt unsafe about others. Had she been like this since her childhood? Or had someone made her become like this?
Edward ate while thinking. He had been very uncomfortable earlier, thinking that he wouldn't have a good appetite, but now, he had finished half a cake in a little while. Now he didn't even feel so much pain, but he didn't know if it was because he was full.
"Beep beep..." The mobile phone put aside suddenly vibrated. He looked at it from the corner of his eye and saw the name Howard Brown on the screen.
He moved slowly and also ate two mouthfuls of cake before he finally swiped to the answer button.
"Edward, I've come back to our homeland. Let's have dinner tonight, shall we?"
Leaning against the back of the sofa, Edward said with an indifferent complexion, "I won't go. I have something to do tonight."
"I was already back last night, but I didn't immediately ask you to come out. I went home first and scolded Beth, and her mother also scolded her. My father is away on business. I didn't call him, so he doesn't know about this yet. If he knew, he would also scold her. I came back from a faraway place. Don't mention anything else. Let's have dinner and chat," Howard Brown said.
No matter what the man spoke, Edward said coldly, "I have no time."
Finding that Edward was determined to break up with the Brown family, Howard made up his mind and said flatteringly, "Edward, I know that the matter of Beth and your tutor has made you so ashamed. Let's do it this way. I'll call your tutor myself. If she can come out, let's come out and have a meeting tonight. Just regard it as your respect for me. I'll apologize to her then."
Edward's mouth was full of the strong fragrance of the sesame. After slowly swallowing this mouthful, he said nonchalantly, "Talk about it later."
