Chapter 7: Take advantage of his power
Jennifer had been stunned until Jane took her hand. Jane held her hand tightly and led her to the sofa.
Originally, Noah only reserved a seat to Jane. But Edward didn't say anything to stop Jane, so everyone moved aside quietly, leaving a seat to Jennifer.
Jane sat next to Edward in the middle of a group of big shots like this with Jennifer. Before Edward could speak, she poured a glass of wine, turned to him and said with a smile, "Mr. Smith, I haven't thanked you for helping me that day. Thank you so much."
Her voice was not loud and it seemed that she wanted to keep a low profile, but everyone heard it clearly, and their eyes became meaningful as they looked at Jane.
Edward leaned on the sofa and didn't intend to look serious on such an occasion. Just like in the nightclub, he looked lazy, took a draw on his cigarette and said, "How are you going to thank me?"
Jane said, "I know what you value most. Many a day will come yet. I will repay you with my practical actions." Then she raised her glass to Edward and drank the wine in one gulp.
Others couldn't figure out the relationship between Jane and Edward for the moment, but their conversation was meaningful. Why did a man with a bad reputation help a beautiful woman? It was evident to anyone.
No one dared to gossip about Edward's private life, but his attitude towards Jane was nice and he allowed Jennifer to sit with them, which meant that he wanted to please Jane. These people were eager to flatter Edward, so they didn't want to miss the chance to curry favour with Jane. They even treated Jennifer with respect.
Several people took the initiative to talk to Jennifer. A few minutes ago, they didn't want her business cards, but they competed for her cards at this moment. Jane saw a bald man exchanging his business card with Jennifer. She smiled and said to Jennifer, "Be careful and don't give them a room card as a business card."
It was the bald man who teased Jennifer and asked her not to give Edward her room card by accident. Although Jane seemed to be joking and her tone was bland, everyone knew that she had taken the man's words to heart.
Sure enough, the bald man's face changed. He immediately looked at Edward, but Edward was expressionless and he could not tell if Edward was mad. He immediately smiled and apologized, "I was just joking with Miss Baker. Please don't take it to heart."
Jane's expression didn't change as she said, "I just said that to liven things up. Don't take it seriously."
The more beautiful a woman was, the more scheming she might be. When Jane smiled, they all felt that she was not someone to be trifled with. They couldn't afford to offend both of Edward and Jane.
Obviously, Edward didn't intend to stay here all the time. After sitting for a short while, he stood up, and a group of people stood up as well as if he was the emperor. Everyone said with compliments and hoped that they could have a meal with Edward. Only Jane said, "Bye, see you tomorrow."
No one could meet Edward at will, right?
Jane's words shocked everyone.
Edward didn't say anything, but some smart people had confirmed the relationship between him and Jane. After Edward left, they all talked to Jane with smiling faces and kept sucking up to her.
Jane decided to leave, leaving Jennifer to handle this. A lot of people were willing to have something to do with Edward. Although they couldn't get to know Jane, it was good to curry favor with her best friend. After all, their flattering words were not as useful as Jane's.
Half an hour later, Jennifer pushed open the door of the bathroom and met Jane, who had been hiding here for a long time.
There was no one else in the bathroom. Jennifer had been confused for a whole night and she finally asked, "What's the relationship between you and Edward? No... when did you know him?"
Although there was no outsider here, Jennifer couldn't help lowering her voice when she mentioned Edward.
Compared with Jennifer who was hurried, Jane looked calm and answered her, "Yesterday. He is my new client."
Jennifer couldn't be more surprised. She stared at Jane and said, "Are you Edward's private teacher?"
Jane corrected her, "His son's private teacher."
Jennifer looked dumbfounded, "I had only been abroad for a few days. Why didn't you tell me something so big?"
Jane was composed, "Edward is the ninth client that Miss Moore gave me. Should I refuse her? Who knew if she would ask me to work for a weirdo as my tenth client? I had no choice. It was useless to tell you. You were too busy at that time."
Jennifer frowned and asked solemnly, "Do you know who Edward is?"
Jennifer replied calmly, "It's said that his reputation is bad, but it has nothing to do with me. He pays me and I work for him. I'm a teacher, not a policewoman."
Jennifer was helpless and said, "it seems that you have a bad understanding of bad reputation."
Jane teased her, "What a tongue twister."
Jennifer said anxiously, "I'm not kidding you."
She looked very worried, clenched her fists and said, "This is my fault. I've been too busy this month, and I haven't had time to tell you about the local culture in S City. You don't know the six attractions in S City."
Jane raised her eyebrows slightly, "Don't fool me just because I'm non-local. There are eight attractions in S City. City Park, Mountain Maple, Blue Square..." She counted with her fingers.
Jennifer pursed her lips, rolled her eyes and interrupted her, "Oh my, you think so because you're non-local. As a native, I can tell you that there are only six attractions in S City now!"
Seeing that Jennifer spoke while gritting her teeth, Jane managed to reply to her, "I'd like to hear it in detail."
Jennifer whispered, "Now the six attractions refer to six rich people, three of them are kind and three of them are evil. Your Prince Charming Aiden Cater is a kind one, and your new client Edward is the evilest among them! What a coincidence!"
She deliberately emphasized the word "evilest", which to let Jane understand the situation and not to risk her life for money.
However, Jane blinked. Her eyes were pure and clear as she asked in a low voice, "is Aiden so famous in S City?"
Jennifer almost fell down and managed to stand firm by holding the washbasin. She solemnly told Jane how dangerous Edward was, but she only cared about Aiden in her heart.
Jane raised her hand and caressed the back of Jennifer's head, coaxing her, "Alright, I believe you, okay? Don't be so excited. Can you calm down a little?"
Jennifer composed herself and whispered. Jane approached her before hearing what she said.
"You shouldn't have helped me out just now. Now you owe him a favor. He can't let you go easily. Everything is over."
Jane wanted to persuade Jennifer to be optimistic. No matter what would happen, she would deal with it and she wouldn't let her get involved. But before she could speak, someone pushed open the door and walked in. They couldn't whisper in the bathroom anymore, so they simply walked out. Jane walked in front and Jennifer walked behind her. As they walked, Jane suddenly stood still so that Jennifer almost bumped against her. Just as she wanted to ask what happened, she looked up and got startled as well.
