Chapter 8 It Depended On Her Own Ability

Chapter 8: It Depended On Her Own Ability
Edward stood alone not far away, smoking.
Jennifer was very afraid of him and her face changed. Jane winked at her and motioned her to go first. Jennifer tipped her a wink nervously and Jane responded. Although they didn't speak, they knew what each other was thinking. In the end, Jennifer left first.
Glancing at Edward's profile, Jane took a deep breath, stepped forward and stopped two steps away from him. Then she greeted him as politely as usual, "Hi, Mr. Smith."
Edwards blew white smoke and looked elsewhere. There was no joy or anger on his face as he said blandly, "According to reason, people who can come here should be successful in business, but you put on a show in front of me deliberately. It seems that your friend runs a fundless company."
He said the sharpest words in the lightest tone. Jane knew that she couldn't hide it from him, but she didn't expect him to be so straightforward.
At this time, she could only admit her true intention, "I'm sorry, Mr. Smith. My friend opened a new company. People in this circle don't recognize her and embarrass her because she's a girl. I could only take advantage of your power, but she's indeed capable. I believe she will run a good business in the future."
Hearing this, Edward turned to look at Jane. His expression was hard to read as he asked, "What does her company have to do with me?"
Then, without waiting for her to answer, he narrowed his eyes and said in a stern tone, "There are all kinds of people in this world. You're the first one who dares to make use of me. Do you think I'm stupid or do you think I'm easy to take advantage of?"
Jane felt oppressive. Facing Edward's question, she wanted to apologize, but it was useless. She had to reply without blinking, "I really shouldn't have played a little trick before them. I know my apology doesn't mean much to you. If you are really angry, you can treat yesterday's oral agreement as invalid. I promise I won't take advantage of your power again."
Edward's expression didn't change and he was unmoved. Originally, he thought Jane had finished speaking. Unexpectedly, she added, "Of course, you can give me some time to make it up for you in my field. I believe the result will always be more convincing than my speech."
Edward's expression was still bland, and he said, "Cut out the banana oil."
This time, Jane didn't answer, but waited to listen to him. Edward looked away, took a draw on his cigarette and said, "I hate being taken advantage of by strangers, but I've always been very generous to my people. I'll give you a chance. If you do well, you'll be one of us. I'll support you even if you act against law and reason, let alone take advantage of my power. But if you don't do well..."
He looked sideways at Jane again. His black pupil seemed to be emotionless, but when she took a closer look, she could sense his hostility and indifference. His voice was low and deep as he said slowly and gracefully, "As for the little tricks you've played, I'll not only give you a lesson, but also let you pay the price."
Jane looked calm on the surface. However, she had become very vigilant in heart. She suddenly thought of the text message sent by him last night. Originally, only she and Aaron knew that Aaron just pretended to be a policeman, but Edward found it out.
She was not sure when Edward knew it. Did he only investigate Aaron? Or did he not allow any suspicious person to get close to him and hurt him just like the rumours said?
Whether it was a coincidence or a foregone conclusion, the more Jane got along with Edward, the more she felt that the rumors were true. No wonder Jennifer was so scared just by hearing his name.

Jane's throat tightened for a moment. She soon forced herself to calm down and replied, "Mr. Smith, thanks for giving me a chance. I will try my best to be one of us."
Edward finished smoking, put out the cigarette end in the smoke extinguisher and said blandly, "Ten o'clock tomorrow morning."
Jane nodded, "Okay."
Both of them were facing the same direction with their backs to the corridor. Jane focused all her attention on Edward and didn't notice when someone approached them until Edward suddenly turned his head. She looked back and saw a pretty woman in a red dress standing not far away.
The women wore delicate make-up. If she removed her eyeliner, she would look young, and she was about the same age as Jane. Her eyes were intense and a little disgusted as she glanced at Jane. Then she looked at Edward with a faint smile. "I have been looking for you for a long time. It turns out that you're whispering to her here... Have I disturbed you?"
Woman knew woman the best. Jane knew what she meant and didn't want to be the scapegoat, so she wanted to leave and said to Edward, "Mr. Smith, I'll go first."
When she walked forward and passed the woman, she clearly saw that there was a flash of unhappiness and even hostility in the woman's arrogant eyes.
When Jane walked away, the woman walked slowly to Edward in her red high heels. There was slight displeasure in her eyes, and her tone was somewhat reproachful and coquettish, "Is it so easy to be one of you now?"
Edward was expressionless and walked forward as if he didn't see her. The woman followed him and said sarcastically, "You are really generous to people on your side, but her intention is too obvious, isn't it? That woman just wants to make use of you. I guess she has received at least twenty business cards from strange men, right?"
She deliberately said so. In fact, Jane didn't take anyone's business card. They were all taken by Jennifer.
Edward didn't even turn to look at her. He said as a matter of fact, "I let her do it."
The woman was surprised and sneered, "What? Did you order her to hook up with those men?"
Edward stopped walking and looked sideways at her. His handsome face was full of apathy and impatience. He said in an indifferent tone, "Just mind your own business. You're not qualified to gossip about people on my side. Those who know the fact will think you stickybeak, but those who don't know will think you're someone to me. Who do you think you are?"
......
As soon as Jane came out, she called Jennifer. Jennifer answered in an instant. They met soon. Jennifer was so worried that she repeatedly asked, "What did he say? Did he make things difficult for you?"
"I think he's a good man." Jane replied in a normal way.
Jennifer looked at Jane in disbelief. She reacted slowly and asked tentatively, "Did he... threaten you?"
Jane said, "The most important thing in life is to stick to principles and keep the rules. He is a person with principles, and I am ready to keep his rules."
Jane was confused and dumbfounded. She said subconsciously, "What did you promise him? If he dares to force you, you must not swallow insult and humiliation silently!"
Jane replied blandly, "Don't always watch those dramatic TV series. In real life, there is no sugar daddy who falls in love with me, but a rich president will hire me with a high salary. I get this after studying hard for more than ten years."
They were not going to stay in the hotel for a long time. When they went out, Jane looked around quietly. Jennifer said sensibly, "I saw the top managers of Aiden's company just now. He didn't come here today."
Jane wanted to deny it subconsciously, but she gave tacit consent to her words before speaking.
