Chapter 54: Met Beth
As soon as Justin saw Edward, he said excitedly, "Lucky gave birth to two babies last night, one male and one female, one brown and one white."
Edward said, "Have you named them?"
"Not yet."
"Just call them Gigi and Kiki."
Justin said, "Riri's baby is Kiki."
Edward said, "Then call it Cici."
"Hmm, I have the same idea."
Listening to the serious conversation between them, Jane was extremely curious to know who Riri was. Did Kiki know that Cici was an alpaca?
"You eat first. I'll go upstairs and take a bath."
Edward walked upstairs. Jane and Justin came to the dining room. The dishes had been placed on the table, but Justin didn't intend to eat. He was waiting for Edward.
Jane said, "Since you name your pets in such a lovely way, I wonder why the two dogs' names are Julliet and Romeo." The relationship between the two names was a little bit complicated...
With a proud face, Justin took it for granted, "Because the dogs were gifts from you, not in our pets' family tree."
Jane couldn't help laughing, "Is there name discrimination?"
Justin thought for a moment, "Uncle Edward named one dog Julliet, and I named the other Romeo."
Jane immediately said, "Oh, you're brilliant! Romeo is indeed a handsome male dog."
Justin glanced at her and said, "You praise me only when Uncle Edward is not here, right?"
Jane said, "Don't worry. Under your supervision, I'm about to turn a blind eye to Edward. If one day he blames me for being arrogant, you must explain for me."
Justin said, "Don't you worry that I will add fuel to the flame?"
Jane said, "Stop kidding. I know you're not such a bad boy."
She praised Justin hypocritically. Although Justin looked disgusted on the surface, he was happy in his heart.
More than ten minutes later, Edward came down from upstairs. He had changed into a pair of pajamas. When he passed by Jane, she smelled a faint fragrance of shower gel.
He sat in the seat of honor. In front of him was a simple but attractive cake. He picked up the spoon and said, "Let's eat."
Justin and Jane started to eat. During the meal, Edward said, "You don't have to work for Nick anymore. I've informed him. You'll teach Henry since next Monday, and you'll give him three classes a week for the time being. You can arrange the time. The Perez family will go to Forward Education and sign a formal contract these days."
Jane paused for a second. Then she nodded and said, "Okay."
Edward lowered his head and ate the cake. A few seconds later, he said, "You don't have to blame me for making my own decisions. I don't mean to meddle in your work. Last night, I told you Nick didn't hire you sincerely. He won't sign a formal contract with you if he doesn't get practical benefits from you. It's a waste of your time."
"I've refused him for you so that you don't have to contact him directly. He doesn't dare to go against me, but it doesn't mean he won't hate you if you offend him."
Jane said, "I understand."
Edward added, "There're many rules in the Perez family. Be careful there. However, as long as you teach Henry well, they won't treat you badly."
Jane nodded.
After lunch, Edward went back upstairs. Jane was about to leave when Justin stopped her.
She asked, "What's the matter?"
He said, "I know Henry's mother. She's very picky."
Jane smiled, "Are you reminding me now?"
Justin replied coolly, "I'm afraid you'll make trouble in the Perez family. Everyone knows that Uncle Edward introduced you to them. I don't want you to disgrace Uncle Edward."
Jane said, "Don't worry. I'm your private teacher. How dare I disgrace you?"
Justin pursed his lips, put his hands in his pockets, and said, "If Henry makes things difficult for you, tell me... Then I'll tell Uncle Edward."
Jane nodded, "Okay, I will."
"It's all right. You can go now."
"Bye, see you tomorrow."
"I really don't want to see you as soon as I open my eyes."
The driver sent Jane back to the downtown area. As soon as she got out of the car, her phone rang. She looked down at the number, and answered it calmly, "Hello? Miss Brown."
"I'm near your company. Come out and have a cup of coffee with me."
Beth was in a cafe in the shopping mall across the street. Jane pulled the chair and sat opposite her. Beth said, "Have you had lunch? Do you want to go to a restaurant?"
Jane said, "Thank you. I've eaten lunch."
Beth asked, "You ate in the Smith family." Her tone was bland. Jane couldn't tell whether it was a question or a statement, and there was no expression on Beth's face.
"Hmm." Jane's expression didn't change as she replied.
A faint smile touched the corners of Beth's lips. "Edward is very kind to you. He let you stay there for lunch and took you to Vincent's birthday party."
Last night, someone took photos of Vincent and Edward and posted them online. Beth saw the photos and had them enlarged, only to see a white shadow that was reflected on the wine glass in Edward's hand. It was the white shirt Jane was wearing.
It turned out that Edward didn't blame her for meeting Ken. Instead, he took her to the birthday party. Beth even suspected that Edward went there for Jane, not for Grace.
Jane didn't guess how Beth knew it. She said frankly, "Mr. Perez's younger brother needs a physics teacher. Mr. Smith introduced me to the interview."
Beth said, "Don't you know that Edward has a good relationship with Vincent? Since he took you there, Vincent would definitely agree."
Jane said, "I appreciate Mr. Smith's recommendation and I will try my best not to disgrace him."
Beth said, "You've only worked in the Smith family for such a short time, but Edward values you so much. It means you're very capable. Have you considered changing a job? I'm sure you'll earn more money."
Jane smiled, "I know how capable I am. I'm only good at teaching students."
Beth said, "Your best friend's company is quite good. Media companies develop very well in S City. You can work in her company and I'll help you with the development."
Jane said, "Our majors are different, and I can't help her if I work there. In addition, financial matters should be settled clearly even between brothers. I don't want to be involved in her interests."
Beth picked up the cup and took a sip of coffee. Without raising her head, she said blandly, "I can let my friends help her. However, they can ban her from this circle because of me, too. You don't want to be involved in her interests.but if she suffers a great loss because of you, shouldn't you reflect on yourself?"
Putting down the glass, Beth slowly raised her head and looked at Jane. Last night, Jane made her annoyed all night, and she didn't sleep.
Jane was not flustered at all. She looked back at Beth without blinking and said, "What should I reflect on? Should I think about why I become a private teacher after studying hard for more than ten years? Or should I think why I'm not a man?"
Beth didn't say a word and Jane stared at her. "I only care about my professional competence and I never think about anything else. If you're Mr. Smith's wife, I can understand that you're worried. But now I don't understand. What qualification do you have to question me? Who are you to Mr. Smith?"
