Chapter 85: She Didn't Want To Be In Love
Susan hung up the phone and said, "Don't be afraid. I didn't join any mafia. I'll give Deacon a lesson."
Jane, Aaron, and Jennifer had a tacit mutual understanding and kept silent.
Susan started the car and said while driving, "I broke up with him for more than half a year, but he has been pestering me. After he knew I would marry my husband, he told everyone that I was a gold-digger and I broke up with him for money. I didn't even want to pay attention to him. He has no desire to advance, but he shifts all the blame onto me."
Looking at them from the rearview mirror, Susan smiled and said, "Jennifer is as hot-tempered as before. You scolded him for half an hour before getting on the plane, right?"
Hearing this, Jennifer had to say, "Jane didn't allow us to mention this because she didn't want to upset you. How did you know that?"
Susan said, "There's no secret in this world. You scolded each other in S City. Someone took screenshots of your conversation and sent them to me. I was amused."
Jennifer said, "I was pissed off. How could you laugh?"
Susan said, "Anyway, Deacon has been slandering me for a long time. My husband wanted to give him a lesson. It was me who didn't bother to pay attention to him. Now he curses everyone who goes against him. I'll hold a wedding tomorrow, so I'll give him a lesson to relieve my stress. What's more, he didn't respect Jane."
Jane said, "We intended to let Aaron ask him where he lived and give him a lesson after your wedding."
Susan said with a smile, "You are all the same as before. Jennifer is hot-tempered, while Jane is circumspect and farsighted."
Looking sideways at Aaron, Susan said, "Aaron, what about you? How have you been these days?"
Aaron said, "Well, I'm still gay."
His words made them laugh at the same time. Susan said, "It is unfair. Many nice men like men."
Aaron said, "Come on. Even if I'm straight, you won't be with me. You're picky. Jennifer only loves money. Jane doesn't want to be in a relationship."
They smiled with understanding. Jennifer said, "I can consider being with you when you become a billionaire."
Susan said, "Well, I'm a married woman, so I won't get involved."
Jane said, "When I work for a few more years and get tired of the worldly affairs, I'll live in the monastery."
Susan said with a smile, "Jane, you had been single in college. I always thought you looked down on the guys in college. But why are you still single now? Is there no man you like?"
Jane said, "I remember that Prof. White, who gave us psychology class, once said that desire was meaningless, and nothing could bother you when you were unworldly enough. I haven't become so unworldly yet. No man is attractive enough to me."
Jennifer said, "Don't listen to Prof. White. He got married three times and divorced three times. He is not unworldly, but he told you to be unworldly. It was easy for him to say."
Jane said slowly, "You don't understand his good intentions. He once suffered in love, so he advised us to be careful."
Aaron, who had remained silent for a long while, suddenly said, "There's something I didn't tell you. I heard that Prof. White is getting married again."
Susan said with a grin, "Really? I didn't know that."
Jennifer said to Jane, "Did you hear that? Prof. White wanted to tell you that you should have a try though it was agonizing."
Looking out of the window, Jane said, "No. If I don't get married, you don't have to give me wedding presents."
Aaron said, "If I can marry Charles, you have to double the presents."
They replied to him together, "You'd better be with him first."
Susan drove them home. She had told Jennifer and Jane that they would be her bridesmaids. They were pressed for time, so their gowns had seen sent home.
The silver-grey fishtail gowns were strapless. Jennifer had to wear a pair of high heels to match the gown. Jane was taller, so she could wear a pair of comfortable flat shoes.
While they were trying on the gowns, Susan answered a phone call. It seemed to be Cornel. With a gentle face, she reminded him to drink less and go home early.
When she hung up the phone, Jane, Aaron, and Jennifer looked at her with smiling eyes. Susan said, "What's wrong? What's so strange about talking to my husband?"
Jennifer said, "Well, I don't have a husband for the time being, and Jane may not have a husband in the future, not to mention Aaron. I'm not sure whether he'll have a husband or a wife."
They hadn't met for a long time, and they talked while laughing. Aaron didn't have to try on any clothes. He sat next to them and asked, "What about the groomsmen?"
He was really curious. Cornel was in his fifties. Even if several of his friends were single, they were middle-aged, and they were not suitable to be groomsmen.
Susan knew what he meant and said with a smile, "Originally, he wanted his single friends to be the groomsmen. I have seen many of his friends. Well, they all look older than their real age, and I can't accept that. What if I burst into laughter at my wedding?"
It was a disaster indeed. Jennifer asked, "What's your decision?"
Susan said, "His friends' sons will be the groomsmen. Anyway, I only have three bridesmaids, so he chose three young men."
Aaron asked, "Will it work? How about me being one of the groomsmen?"
Susan said, "Thank you, but no."
They talked and laughed until the middle of the night. They had to get up early the next day, so they washed up and went back to their rooms to sleep. In Y City, weddings were held in the morning, so Susan got up to put on make-up in the early morning. Jane and Jennifer got up to help her at five o'clock. Around eight o'clock, the groom came to pick her up.
Jane, Jennifer, and Aaron met Cornel for the first time, so they paid attention to him. They didn't notice the groomsmen behind Cornel, but they saw Jane at the first glance.
Their fathers were senior officials, and they had been annoyed because they had to get up early. However, their eyes lit up when they saw Jane, especially Andy Johnson. His father was the director of the Bureau of Education, so he was the most powerful among the groomsmen. Since he liked Jane, the other two didn't dare to compete with him, and they wanted to help him.
When picking up the bride, Andy took chances to get close to Jane. Jane was very sensitive. Sensing what he wanted to do, she stayed away from him quietly, but Andy became more and more interested. He didn't even ask who Jane was and whether she had a boyfriend or not. He said to his friends, "I have to win her heart tonight. I can't wait anymore."
His cronies instigated him, "Do something at the wedding. Come on!"
