Chapter 83: Refused Him
Jane handed him a tissue, "Just cry. You may feel that it is unmanly to cry, but you can cry when you're sad."
Henry covered his eyes with the tissue and whispered, "I've been thinking about it, but I can't figure it out. I don't know whether she likes the real me or the one she imagines in her mind."
Jane said, "Since you can't figure it out, don't think about it anymore. Just follow your heart. You have had an answer in your heart. If you are willing to change for her, try it. What if you can be with her in the end? If the result is not satisfactory after you make some changes, you will understand. Anyway, no one can decide for you. It depends on you."
She drank porridge while speaking in a casual tone as if Henry was an adult and her friend.
Henry was upset at home, so he asked Jane to come out, wondering if she could talk to him. He didn't expect her to solve any problems for him. Maybe she would take the opportunity to persuade him to study hard or not to fall in love at an early age, but she advised him to follow his heart and do what he wanted.
Henry looked at Jane who had a good appetite and asked, "How many times have you been in a relationship?"
Jane raised her head, "What do you mean? Do I look like someone who's been in a relationship many times?"
Henry nodded subconsciously, "Many people are chasing after you, right?"
Jane replied, "Should I be with a man just because he chases after me?"
"Have you never been in a relationship?"
"Yeah. What's wrong? Do you look down on me?"
Henry's eyes were suspicious, "I don't believe it."
Jane said, "Don't judge people by their appearance."
Henry said, "I'm actually asking someone who hasn't been in love about love."
Jane said, "Does a Spanish teacher have to go to Spain before he teaches students?"
Henry said, "You have never been in a relationship. How can you tell me what to do?"
Jane said, "I know exactly what I want, so I don't have to waste my time on the wrong people."
Henry asked, "What do you want?"
Jane said, "I want to make money."
Henry pouted and said, "I mean, what kind of man you like."
Jane scooped a spoonful of porridge and said calmly, "I don't think anyone can meet the standard in my mind."
Henry complained, "You're single because you set high demands on your boyfriend."
Jane smiled faintly, "Yeah, I'm ready to be single forever."
Henry was still curious, "No matter how high your demand is, there must be a man you like. Do you like tall and handsome men or successful men? Besides, some handsome men are successful in their careers."
Jane stretched out and touched her chest, "My heart is incomplete now."
Henry said, "Does it mean you're thoughtless?"
Saying this, he couldn't help laughing, and Jane smiled, "Does the one you like know you're so humorous?"
Hearing this, Henry felt depressed again. Jane said, "Have some porridge."
"No."
"Logically speaking, what you lose by eating less is only water, unless you don't eat carbohydrates all your life. Otherwise, you'll gain more weight once you start to eat properly again. If you're full, you'll be in a peaceful state of mind. Now what you need is not to lose weight immediately, but to think calmly about what you want. What's more, the porridge cost eight dollars. Don't waste it. Wasting food is guilty. If you do many bad things, you'll be punished by God, and you may not be with the girl you like. "
Henry raised his head, saying with pale lips and an awkward face, "Will I be punished because I waste food? It's superstition, isn't it?"
Jane pushed the salad to him, "Well, just believe me. You can lose weight if you eat porridge as your three meals a day. Now you're so hungry that you look weak. What if you look ugly because of losing eight like this? Nowadays, girls like handsome boys. It's not worth it."
Henry was really hungry. Moreover, Jane had a good appetite, and he was a little mad because he was jealous. Since she had given him a way out, he pretended to be reluctant, picked up the spoon, and drank the plain porridge.
It was the most delicious porridge he had ever had in his life.
Jane said, "Have some salad."
Henry ate the salad. It was an ordinary salad, but he felt he had never had such a tasty salad before.
He finished a bowl of porridge soon. Jane suggested, "Do you want more?"
Henry didn't say yes or no, and Jane ordered some more porridge for him. At this time, Henry no longer wanted to save his face. After drinking it, he ordered the third bowl of porridge himself.
Jane looked up at him and asked, "Are you in a better mood now?"
"Mm."
Jane said, "Since you're full, go back and have a good sleep. From tomorrow on, you should fill yourself in the morning, have a good meal at noon, and drink three bowls of porridge for dinner."
Henry said, "How can I lose weight if I eat so much?"
Jane exposed him without hesitation, "I think you can drink two more bowls of porridge now. In the future, don't overeat in the evening. Stop before you fill yourself."
Henry didn't speak. Originally, he wanted to order another bowl of porridge.
They went out of the restaurant together. Henry behaved like a gentleman and said, "Where do you live? I'll send you back first."
Jane said, "I shouldn't have asked you to send me back, but maybe you can lose weight by walking. Let's go. My house is in the front."
They strolled forward. On the way, Henry's phone rang. He looked at it and answered, "Hello? Edward."
Edward's voice came from the phone, "What are you doing?"
"Nothing."
"I heard you've been in a bad mood lately."
Henry said, "What did my mother say to Vincent?"
Edward said, "Why don't you call me since you're in a bad mood? Where are you? I'll pick you up."
Henry replied, "No, I'm fine."
"You don't have to be fractious before me, right?"
"Well, I'm really fine. I'm with Miss Cooper now. We had dinner and I'll send her back."
Jane knew it was Edward. Sure enough, after listening to what Edward said, Henry handed the phone to her, "Edward wants to speak to you."
"Hello? Mr. Smith."
Edward said, "Vincent and I are in the place we played last time. Would you like to come?"
It was hard to get Edward's invitation. Many people wanted to play with him, but they were not qualified. However, Jane was not an ordinary woman. She politely refused without thinking, "Thank you, but I have an appointment with my friend, so I won't disturb you and Mr. Perez."
Edward said, "Vincent wants me to thank you for taking care of Henry."
Jane said, "You're welcome. It's Henry's treat tonight."
Edward said, "You can talk to Henry, bye."
He hung up. Jane returned the phone to Henry. Henry asked, "Do you have an appointment?"
Jane said, "No, that's my excuse."
Henry said, "Don't you want to meet Edward and Vincent?"
Jane smiled and said, "He just invited me politely, and he didn't really mean it. What should I take it seriously?"
Henry said, "Many people are willing to get close to them."
Jane replied, "I don't need to ask them for help, and they don't have anything to talk to me. It's very awkward when we sit together and chat."
Henry grinned, "Only you dare to tell the truth."
Jane turned to look at him and said, "Keep it a secret, and don't tell anyone, or I'll be in a dilemma."
He said, "Okay, I don't have a big mouth."
