Chapter 44 Who Did She Hook up with?
Grace stared at Jane who had a blank face. No one made a sound at the table for a while, and the atmosphere instantly fell into embarrassment.
Jennifer said, "After listening for a long time, you still don't know who had no courtesy. Did I offend the one next to you?"
The thorn in Grace's side was only Jane, so she immediately replied, "I didn't speak to you."
Jane said, "What she said is what I want to say."
Grace sneered, "Don't you know how to speak? You still need someone else to speak for you?"
Jane realized that Grace was aimed at her because she was sure that this was the first time they met. How could Jane offend her?
Women's quarrels had always grabbed more attention than the Spring Festival Gala. All the people at the table, no matter men or women, stared at them. What's more, Jane and Grace were not ordinary people who both had the same person behind them. They were supposed not to be so confrontational.
The hostess was close to where they sat. Seeing this, she quickly asked to mediate, "What's the matter? Why?"
Grace said with a sullen face, "Who is she? Who invited her? Is there no threshold in our circle now? Anyone can come in."
These words were so mean that the hostess didn't know whether she should laugh, and she hurriedly glanced at Beth. Beth said with a smile, "I brought her here. If there is any misunderstanding, just talk privately and got that straight."
Grace said with a grim face, "Someone is kind to give her an opportunity, but the key is that she doesn't deserve it. This is the occasion for friends to chat privately, not her backyard where she can hook up with whoever she wants."
Jennifer suddenly became angry when she heard "hook up", and said, "Who are you referring to?"
Grace looked up at her and replied word by word, "I didn't say it was you. Don't ask for it."
Jennifer wanted to scold her, but Jane said first naturally, "So that's me?"
Grace looked directly at Jane. "Do you have no idea who I referred to?"
"Who did she hook up with?"
They had been arguing for a long time, and suddenly in the room appeared a male voice which couldn't show his mood.
Grace's turned to be nervous in her heart, and everyone couldn't help seeing who it was. It's Ken. He was sitting in a chair, leaning against the back, with one hand on the table, and his face was expressionless.
No one in the big room dared to speak. After a pause of three to five seconds, Ken said again, and his voice was obviously more angry than the last time, "I'm asking you who she hooked up with?"
Everyone had different looks. Grace felt like sitting on pins and needles and said loudly, "I was talking to her. None of our business. What do you care?"
Hearing this, Ken immediately got up. He was so violent that the chair was pushed back by him. He simply pushed it aside and walked over.
The host was frightened and he followed up subconsciously, for fear that Ken would go too far. But Ken did not go towards Grace but came behind Jennifer and Jane, saying to the entire row of people, "Go there."
The person on the farthest paused and hurried to the left to sit in Ken's seat, followed by the rest until Jennifer. She used to take a hint, so she moved to the left, and gave up her position to Ken without saying a word.
Ken took the chair away and sat beside Jane, with his long arms casually placed on the back of her chair. It looked like he was holding her in his arms.
Looking at Grace whose face turned red instantly, he said with a poker face, "It's none of my business if you say others, but when it comes to her, you can try."
His voice was very soft, but the softer it was, the more terrifying it was.
It's Ken. When did Ken's warnings not count?
Grace looked at Ken coldly, looking at the face that made her heartbroken but unforgettable, and said stubbornly, "What's her relationship with you? Why do you protect her like this?"
Ken replied, "Do I have to explain to you? Who are you?"
This sentence was like a barbed hook hooking Grace's heart. She was reminded of the bloody memories of the past.
It was like a lump in her throat, making her staring eyes instantly covered with tears.
Jane finally understood. Grace was Ken's ex-girlfriend, no wonder she was trying to get Jane in trouble. Thinking they were both females, Jane didn't want to embarrass her in public, so she lowered her head and said to Ken in a low voice, "Forget it."
Ken minded losing face very much. In the end, it was because of him that this farce happened today. He felt sorry for Jane and replied softly, "Don't take it personally. She's mad."
This was not the first time Grace had gone crazy. In the few months since they broke up, he had been tired of seeing her tricks from acting shamelessly to slandering him.
Grace didn't expect Ken to protect Jane in public and said that she was mad. The wine boosted her courage. She said, "Who did you say was mad?"
Her voice was loud. Jane was startled, and Ken also looked at her coldly.
The hostess and other guests persuaded Grace. The more they persuaded her, the more aggrieved she felt. She criticized Ken, "Am I sick or are you sick? Do you have any standards for hooking up with girls? Are you a junk dealer?"
His face fell. With the very accurate sixth sense, Jane knew that it would be serious if he raged, so she stood up instinctively to block Ken's sight, and said, "Let's go."
Grace burst into tears with anger, staring at Jane's back, and said, "Do you think he likes you? You can see whether he would talk to you if you have no relationship with Edward. He is..."
Before she finished speaking, Ken suddenly stood up. Because he was much taller than Jane, she only felt that a mountain suddenly rose out of the ground. She stretched out her hand against Ken's chest and pushed him back. Ken pointed at Grace, and gnashed his teeth, with his face turning pale.
Of course, he was very fair, and Jane didn't know if it was because he was pissed off.
It was chaotic for a time. Beth stood up and said, "Ken, what are you doing?"
Ken said coldly, "Get out of the way, and stay away from me."
No one has ever spoken to Beth like this. Though embarrassed, she had a clear mind. He was Ken, and she would not fight with him directly.
At that moment, the only person who dared to persuade Ken was Jane. She tried her best to stop him, wanting to take him away from here. Jennifer carried their bags and was ready to go at any time.
Grace could not see that there were other women beside Ken, not to mention that Jane was still holding his arm. She shouted, "Do you dare not go?"
The anger that Ken had just suppressed was ignited like a splash of oil. Unable to pass by Jane, he replied in a deep voice, "I won't leave. I'll see what you want to do today."
There were some people around on both sides, and the scene somehow became chaotic. Beth walked to the corner and took out her mobile phone to make a call.
The phone rang for a long time before she got through, and a man's low and cold voice came from the phone, "Hello."
Staring at Jane who was standing with Ken, Beth said, "Edward, hurry up and come to No. 18, the Pearl Road. Grace is fighting with Ken...because of Jane."
