Chapter 43 Traps Are Everywhere

Chapter 43 Traps Are Everywhere
Ken found it interesting that she still wanted to get out of their rivalry after saying so many words.
Putting his hands in his trouser pockets, he looked at Jane and asked, "Why don't you like me so much? How did I offend you?"
Jane said, "Mr. Garcia, frankly speaking, I am the tutor of the Smith family, which makes it impossible for me to work with you again. It's not a question of salary, but a first-come-first-served issue. Besides, I think you are more easygoing, so please let me go. I'm just an ordinary tutor. Maybe in other people's eyes, my clients are very special, but in my eyes, this is just a job. I have to work very hard to be recognized. I want to work in this industry, and also I want to stay in S City."
She stood in front of Ken, raising her head slightly, her face also illuminated by the light. Her gazes were firm but soft. Ken didn't know if it was an illusion and seemed to see her eyes glowing. He thought she was about to cry because she was wronged. However, he finally found that there was not a single tear in her eyes when he looked closely.
After a brief silence, Ken said, "You were right. I'm more easygoing than Edward, and he has nothing special. Don't worry, do your job well, and I won't cause you trouble."
Hearing the words, Jane was overjoyed. It was sure that casually flattering someone worked the most.
She thought that Ken had shown kindness and would let her go since then, but he immediately added, "How many times have we met?"
Jane was vigilant and replied truthfully, "Not counting the time on the road, this should be the third time."
Ken said, "I'm not kidding. I think we really hit it off. How about making friends?"
She thought to herself, come on, it's not good to change your mind so soon.
Jane was on the alert for him and wanted to refuse immediately. She didn't even want an employment relationship, let alone a friendship, but Ken looked sincere. What he said should not be a gag, so she couldn't even think of a reason for refusing.
She hesitated for a while, but Ken had already said, "I never cheat on my friends, and I rarely make friends with others. Don't listen to what other people say about me. You can observe me by yourself."
He had already said everything Jane wanted to say which forced her to reply, "Okay, as long as you don't think that I have no ability, and I can't help you anything."
Ken laughed, "It's not that we can be friends only after helping each other, but only after being friends can we help. What do you think? Am I right?"
Jane nodded in agreement.
They stood under the kapok tree in the yard. The tree was covered in flaming blossoms. A handsome boy and a beautiful girl. Others would think they fell in love if they didn't listen to the content of their conversation.
Ken's phone rang. He took it out to answer, and a male voice came from his phone, "Where are you? Be careful when you come in later, or you can just leave. I just saw Grace. She must not have been invited by Bob, probably by his wife."
Ken looked calm, and replied indifferently, "It's been the history. Can't I go where she is?"
Jane couldn't hear what the man said on the phone. She intuitively thought that there was someone in the villa who did not get along well with Ken. She first thought of Edward, but it should be impossible.
After a while, Ken hung up the phone, looked at her, and said, "Let's go in, it's time for the banquet."
Jane and Ken entered the villa one after the other. There were more than twenty people present today, including guests separately invited by the host and the hostess. There was a long western-style table in the dining room, and everyone had already been seated. Because they were the last to come in, it was inevitable that they would receive the stares of everyone.
It didn't matter to Ken, and Jane pretended not to care.

She searched for familiar faces sitting at the long table. Jennifer raised her hand, and Jane walked over and sat between her and Beth. Only after sitting down did Jane realize that it was not that the banquet would start soon, but everyone was waiting for her and Ken to come back. No, precisely speaking, they were waiting for Ken.
Ken sat beside the host. It was clear that his status was different, and the banquet couldn't start until he came back.
Before having the meal, the host and the hostess spoke separately, nothing more than to thank all friends for being here, and hope everyone could have a good time tonight. Ken was very supportive and keeps laughing.
The host said, "You look happy. Shouldn't you thank me?"
Ken didn't say a word, picked up the wine glass, and drank a toast to him as if they didn't have to say anything.
Don't look at the fact that there were only twenty to thirty people at the table, but they all had different minds, either talking about work or making friends. All in all, it was a worthwhile evening.
Jane whispered to Jennifer, asking how things were going. Jennifer responded and asked Jane what Ken asked her to do and if he made things difficult for her.
Sitting diagonally across from Jane was a young woman with a mid-ponytail who wore a purple one-neck dress, her collarbone and pendant exposed. She was very fair and quite beautiful, except for her rosy cheeks. She dropped her eyes and kept drinking.
The phone on the table vibrated. Someone sent her a WeChat message, and she clicked on it to see. "The one in the white shirt is Jane. Look at her. She doesn't even show her respect to people, and I don't know where she got the plastic surgery."
The woman replied, "I don't know her. It has nothing to do with me."
A new message was immediately sent. "You didn't see that Ken ran to her as soon as he came and said she was his younger sister. We have never heard of him having a sister. Do you know her?"
The woman's expression couldn't be described as angry or hurt, and she quickly typed to reply, "Nonsense! He dares to recognize as long as someone's name has the same letter as his."
The one who was texting her said, "Grace, Ken shows his affection for her on purpose in front of you. I'm so mad."
Grace's heart was hurt, and she replied with a blank face, "Whoever he likes."
Even so, Grace had hated Jane for a long time. Yes, some people were destined to be enemies from the first meeting.
The woman beside Grace was a young actress who came out from a web TV show. Recently, she was with Miss Moore of a film and television company and had done her best to beg him for drama resources. She just received the role of a supporting actress from a second-tier director. She became very arrogant and had already classified herself as one in the circle of cultural media.
Knowing that Jennifer opened a cultural and communication company, the woman first took the initiative to talk, but then somehow she started to pick a fight. Jennifer bore with her again and again, but she still went too far. Jane lifted her eyelids, and said coldly, "Jennifer can't afford to invite you to act."
She didn't expect Jane to speak suddenly, and said with a half-smile, "I'm not as expensive as the rumor says."
Jane smiled, "The salary of your shoot is counted by the day and six figures per night. My friend's new company is too small to afford you."
A while ago, some media reported that a woman had a secret meeting with a certain boss by the sea, and they stayed in the hotel for five days and four nights with the curtains closed all the time. Later she took a job, which was calculated to be more than ten or two hundred thousand dollars a night.
Jane's words were both vague and straightforward. It all depended on what the other party thought. The woman was neither deaf nor stupid, so how could she not know the irony in her words? But she didn't dare to expose it immediately, while Grace who was beside her put down the glass of wine and said with a serious look, "What are you talking about? Was that courteous?"
She controlled her temper all night, and finally got something on Jane. Not only did she not lower her voice, but she wanted to embarrass Jane on purpose. As soon as her words came out, the host and the guests on the other side of the long table also looked at them.
