Chapter 208 Something Unexpected Happened
Putting the coat on the bench, Jane reminded the onlooker Justin, "Don't eat too much ineapple. And if you got a stomachache, don't blame me."
Justin said, "It's Uncle Edward who blocked your shot, you can just take it out on him."
Jane stayed calm and walked to the court. Once she got chance, she would block his shot hard, she thought.
Edward, wearing a black sweater with a high collar, stood in the midfield and waited for Jane to come back. Seeing her stood in front of him, lowered her body and posed, he held a cigarette with his left hand and dribbled the ball with his right hand. In order to stop him from breaking through, Jane opened her arms to defend. Edward stepped back in a moment and jumped. The ball threw a rainbow-like arc in the air. Jane turned her head. "Swipe", the ball was scored.
They've only just started, while she had to eat her words.
Jane went to the basket to get the ball. This time, it was her turn to play on attack. Edward took the last puff of the cigarette and threw the butt into the trash can. "Do you want me to let you win?" he asked at a distance of more than 6.6 feet from her.
Jane said without thinking, "No, I can do it by myself."
Could she really make it? Edward doubted it.
It was obvious that she didn't need him to give in while he was waiting her to admit her mistake. With different minds, the two gave tit for tat on the court.
Justin ate pineapples while being a onlooker. In fact, he even didn't need to take a look. If he heard the sound of shot-blocking, it was definitely Edward blocked Jane's shot. And if he heard the sound of brushing the net, it was definitely Edward scored again.
There was one thing that Justin didn't understand. When Jane played football with them, she dragged, pulled and even stomped hard on Aaron several times which hurted him so much. So they all called her "the black ball player". But when it came to Edward, she coudn't be more righteous. They didn't have any physical contact. Then how could they defend? Was she still unaccustomed when changing from footabll to basketball?
Seeing that Jane was being "oppressed" by Edward, Justin wanna call for a time-out several times to give Jane some off-court guidance. You know, women would be disadvantaged when playing with men. And if she didn't play any tricks, she would be defeated totally by Edward.
In about ten minutes, Jane didn't have any advantage over Edward at all. And even Edward was a little bit flurried, for fear that she would be pissed off if he blocked her shot again. However, Jane has always been calm, and only showed a a faint flame in her eyes. Just like a wolf that would never gave up though failing to attack the lion many times.
He could not relax and doze off, or she would catch him off guard.
Edward had never seen such a stubborn woman as Jane. Couldn't she just admit her mistakes and make an apology? Even if she just tugged at his clothes, he would let her win.
However, Jane didn't want to tug his clothes at all. She did try so hard not to play tricks. And she just wanna trip him and step on him to shoot.
Since they've got different opinions, there was no way to compromise with each other.
They played back and forth on the court. Edward thought he would not lose on purpose, but his heart was melted over time. At first, he has made up his mind to block her shot. But now, he just used his hands to block her. And whether she could score or not all depended on her own ability and luck.
Jane defended Edward more and more seriously. At first, she just didn't want to touch him. But later when she got into the thick of the match, normal physical touches were acceptable.
Edward knew that she couldn't stop him from shooting. So he just broke through and made a layup every time, which could delay her a while.
Finally, Jane scored the first goal.
Before she could celebrate it, the ringing of the phone came closer and closer. She turned her head and saw Justin came over with her bag in hand. "Your phone is ringing."
Jane saw her black hands, and looked at him again. Looking at the white woven bag that Ellie gave her, she said rationally, "Hold it for me."
Justin opened the bag and took out her phone. While Edward just stood not far away and glanced at it casually. A two-character name was showed on the screen, the first one was Lee.
Justin held the phone for her, and Jane turned on the switch. "Charles, what's up?"
"I have forgotten something that I wanted to say on table. Send me aunt's address. A friend in J City sent me two boxes of home-brewed wine, and I want to sent a box to aunt." Charles said.
Jane said, "No, you don't need to. She can make wine herself, and also there is no shortage of wine for her to drink."
Charles said, "Aunt sent me a box of wine she made when she came here a while ago. And now I will drink a little every night. Just leave it alone. It's between us wine friends, and has nothing to do with you."
Jane smiled and said, "It's a bother for you to do it."
Charles said, "Don't be long-winded. Text me the address when you have time."
"Ok."
Hanging up the phone, Justin put the phone back in the bag. And Edward who stood aside heard the gist of it. The person Jane met just now was not Aiden Cater.
Justin greeted Edward, "I'll go do some shopping."
Putting Jane's bag on the bench, Justin walked out of the stadium. The lights in this huge stadium were as bright as if it were in the daytime. Edward casually raised his hand to shoot, and the ball went into the basket directly, as if it has got eyes.
He walked to the basket, bounced the ball and said, "I'll just use one hand."
Though he didn't look at her, he was saying to her. Hearing the voice, Jane looked at him and said, "No, I'm not the man in The Legend of Condor Hero."
Edward raised his eyes and said, "I don't want to wound your pride."
Jane adjusted her breathing. "To be fair, you are not allowed to jump."
Edward didn't answer, and threw the ball to her directly.
The rules were re-set. Edward couldn't jump, and he also quietly tied his left hand. In fact, Jane's skill was not bad, at least she was better than 80% of women. So her hit rate was greatly improved.
It was Edward's turn to play on attack, and Jane defended him so hard. If she were a man, Edward could hit him face to face. While since she was so slim, and just liked a beautiful bamboo. How could he hit her? Then he had no choice but to move back and forth to confuse her .
Jane knew that she was not Edward's match, but she had to show the aura. Though it was hard for her, she had to try to keep up. Seeing there was a chance, Edward suddenly speed up. He was gonna sway Jane back, and then throw the ball on the spot. But the truth was that Jane was shaken back hard by him. Being unsteady on her feet, she was about to fall backwards.
Just after a few seconds, Edward quickly stretched out his left hand and grabbed Jane's arm. Since he still had the ball in his right hand, he didn't have time to react, and put his weight all on his left hand. While Jane just instinctively grabbed the hand stretched out to her when she fell backwards. So finally, Edward failed to hold her back, and was pulled forward by her. She sat on the ground, and the toe of his shoes kicked her foot. If he took a step forward, he would step on her. So he immediately decided to give up, stuck his heel on the ground, and let his body lie forward.
Jane saw Edward get pulled dowm by herself and saw the light in front of her get covered by a black shadow...
