Chapter 207 The Ball Speaks
Charles asked Jane to come out to reassure her. Or she woud be upset, thinking that she couldn't atten the annual party.
In addition, they have also talked about the interpersonal relationship in the company. "Sofia told me on you." Charles said.
Jane calmly said, "She told you that I was a bully and didn't respect my boss, right?"
Charles said, "You know, she comes a wealthy family in S City and she herself is excellent too. Being so arrogant, she loves to be flattered. And if you go against her, she will definitely single you out."
"These are just objective reasons. The main reason she hates me is that she mistakenly regards me as a rival in love and thinks that we''ll be in a relationship or something." said Jane.
"It's not appropriate for me to call her out if she didn't speak out."
"You don't need to explain it or she might be more suspicious. And then she might think that I am the one who behind all this and deliberately ask you to put her on the spot."
"She will know that she has misunderstood you sooner or later."
Jane was aware of something and asked keenly, "Do you have a crush?"
Charles laughed. "I know this a a trap. You are just too young to fish for hints."
"Come on! Tell me." Jane said.
Charles didn't answer. "What about you? Do you have a crush?" he asked.
"No."
"Me neither."
They were both too cunning and didn't have anything to say.
After dinner, Charles walk Jane to the gate of the community. After saying goodbye to him, she walked inside. Now that the apartment has been changed, she had to pass the basketball court on the way. Though it was being so late, she still could hear someone playing on the basketball court. Jane got close and turned her head to look.
Under the spotlight stood two people, one was tall and the other was short. They were all dressed in black and white sneakers. When she took a closer look, it turned out to be Edward and Justin.
Justin played on attack and tried to break through, while Edward played on defendce and did not give in. Finally, there came a good chance.Justin raised his hand and Jane also got excited. But suddenly, Edward blocked his shot.
The ball was thrown into the air and rolled in the direction of the barbed wire. Justin came over to pick it up. And when he looked up, he saw Jane, who was waving at him with a smile on the other side of the net.
Jane lifted the bag in her hand. "I bought you a pineapple."
Justin's favorite fruit was pineapple. And Jane was gonna ask him to come over to get it tomorrow, but she didn't expect to meet him here.
After a while, Jane went around the fence and entered the basketball court, while Justin went to the open-air sink to wash his hands. She sat on the bench and looked at Edward, who was shooting alone on the court.
Though he stood few steps away from the three-point line, he still could shoot at the basket every time. Being a onlooker, Jane clapped her hands to show her support. She was just amusing herself and didn't intend to make a splash to attract Edward's attention. But Edward didn't hear it, he caught a glimpse of it.
Justin washed his hands and came back, eating the pineapple on the chair. "Since you know how to paly basketball, just go and play with Uncle Edward." he said to Jane.
Jane shook her head. "I was not his match."
" I don't expcet you to win and I was just a bystander."
"I bought you the pineapple."
Justin lowered his eyes and said while eating, "You promised that you would have dinner with me. But you just left without hesitation."
Jane said subconsciously, "I have cooked for you."
"I don't need a cook." Justin said.
Jane was speechless suddenly. She thought that she was fulfilling the bet by making a meal for him. But only now did she realize that the bet they made was that she needed to have the meal with him, not just cooked for him. And most importantly, she saw Edward was there, and then thought there was someone who could accompany him...
Tsk, Jane pursed her lips. "My fault, and it's just a gift this time. When you invite me to dinner next time, I'll talk the talk, and walk the walk."
Justin was eating the pineapple with a poker face. "I'll give you a chance."
"That's very big of you."
Then the two sat on the chairs and chatted. Edward shoot a ball, which was a clean shot without exception. And he looked a little bored. "Justin, you wanna continue?" he asked.
Justin raised his eyes and said, "I need to grab a bite first. Ask Bad Teacher."
Edward didn't say anything, and even didn't look at her. While Jane was put on the spot and had no choice but to get up and go to the court.
Standing under the basket, the minute Edward got the ball, he threw it directly at Jane without greeting her. The speed of the ball was not slow, and it went straight to her chest directly instead of bouncing to her. As a woman, one might be scared first and got out of the way, but Jane just grabbed it accurately.
It's been a long time since she played basketball, especially in front of people who know how to play. Just to be safe, Jane dribbled the ball to the basket and made a basic three-step layup. Fortunately, not bad, it was a bank shot.
Edward didn't talk to her, so Jane didn't know what he wanted to do. "Mr. Smith, do you wannna shoot?" she held the ball and asked.
Edward lowered his head and lit a cigarette. " Go play by yourself." he said indifferently.
Jane didn't want to seize other's love. "How about 1v1?" she asked.
Edward didn't want to play, but she has taken the initiative to invite him. When he looked up, he saw that she was dressed in casual clothes, jeans and short jacket. It was obvious that she didn't scrub up well. Well, of course, her face was attractive enough even without makeup.
It is said that women would do the make up for the ones they liked. Since she dressed like this, the person she met might not be the one that she had crush on.
Edward lit a cigarette and got close. Standing under the basket, he took a sip and said, "You first."
Jane played on attack while Edward played on defence. Standing there, Edward was not nervous at all. And he even didn't want to make a posture and was still smoking,
Though Jane didn't say anything, she was still angry about his despising. And then she made up her minds to shoot the ball into the net and gave him a lesson.
Dribbling with the right hand and guarding with the left hand, Jane tried to break through under the basket. While Edward stepped forward calmly and blocked her way. Being tall, he would give people a very strong sense of oppression, even just standing there. Fortunately, Jane was not petite and short, or she would feel like there's a wall in front of her..
After trying several times, Jane still couldn't break through. Then she dribbled the ball out again and stood at the two-point line. While Edward didn't follow her, and was still standing under the basket. Jane glared at him secretly and suddenly jumped up and shoot.
As soon as the ball was shot, Jane could almost guess that she could shoot the goal. But who knows, Edward jumped up suddenly and blocked her shoot when the ball was about to enter the basket.
The ball was knocked into the air, hit the ground and bounced up again. And it could be imagined that how hard Edward hit it.
Jane was really surprised. First, she didn't expect that she would not scored. Second, she didn't expect Edward to jump so high. And, it was just for fun. Why was he so serious, was he showing his strength and threatening her?
Edward grabbed the ball and gave Jane a provocative look, telling her to switch defenses.
Jane adjusted her breathing and silently took off her jacket.
Seeing this, Edward showed a disdainful look. Well, did she thought that she could win the game without her coat?
