Chapter 23 Call Me Dad

Chapter 23 Call Me Dad
Jane changed her clothes and got into the Smith family's car. After the car drove to a nearby hospital, she lifted her leg and stepped down, feeling a burning pain in the bend of her right knee. She held on to the car door before she stood up straight.
In the emergency room on the night shift, Justin with a face injury was sitting on the bed, with the doctor standing beside him, and Edward and Jane not far across from him.
While examining the injury, the doctor routinely asked, "How did you get injured?"
Justin didn't speak, and Edward didn't speak either. The indifferent faces of the two of them forced Jane to speak, "...He was helping me. I met a bad guy. He was hurt because he was helping me."
The doctor was slightly surprised, then boasted, "Well done, young man. That was very gallant of you at your age."
Justin said unhappily, "Are you finished? I want to leave."
The doctor said, "Take off your clothes. I'll see if there are any other injuries."
Justin denied without thinking, "No."
Edward said, "Listen to the doctor." Not harsh, but not arguable as well.
Justin frowned visibly. Although he didn't want to, he didn't object. Thinking that he hated seeing the doctor the most, Jane hurriedly said, "Just give me a face and let the doctor see the injury, okay?"
Justin raised his head unhappily to see Jane's undisguised begging. As if he didn't promise her, she would become a big sinner.
After a few seconds, he said, "You go out first."
Jane paused first. Then she realized that he agreed. She hurriedly turned around and walked out.
In the hospital corridor, Jane and Edward stood a few steps away. After a moment of silence, she took the lead to break the silence, "Mr. Smith, I'm really sorry for what happened tonight. I know it's useless no matter how much I apologize. No matter how you want to solve it, I will cooperate with you. "
Due to the 'No Smoking' sign on the wall, Edward held a cigarette between his fingers but did not light it. Hearing this, he was not angry, but replied calmly, "He is willing to help you and bear the consequences. No one put a knife on his neck to force him to do this."
While Jane was surprised, she felt even more uncomfortable. After a pause, she whispered, "He's a nice boy."
She lowered her gaze slightly, not looking at Edward's face. A few seconds later, a familiar male voice came, "Shouldn't you praise his parents for his teaching?"
Jane looked up to see Edward just looking at her. Before she could answer, he said, "You apologized to me three times and thanked Justin four times along the way. But you never said a word of thanks to me. Apology and gratitude are not the same thing. As a teacher, you don't understand such a simple truth, do you?"
Jane watched Edward's eyes and heard his lukewarm voice. For a while, she didn't know whether he was happy or unhappy. After dodging her eyes for a while, she quickly replied solemnly, "I was negligent. You are right. I owe you a thank you."
"Thank you for your help." Jane nodded sincerely at Edward.
Edward said nonchalantly, "I heard you took care of Justin during the day. We're even."
After a moment of silence, Jane said, "Mr. Smith, there is something I want to mention, but you may not be willing to listen. But it is reasonable, especially after today's events. I have to say it."

Edward was noncommittal. Jane looked up at him and said, "As teachers, we have studied the psychology of children and adolescents. The development of a child's character does require the guidance of teachers during school, but more is the education that comes from the original family. The family is the irreplaceable teacher of a child's growth. "
"You taught Justin to be brave. Then he'll come forward anytime, anywhere. He doesn't care if he's a kid or if he's facing an adult or his peers. But bravery does not equal extreme, just like self-defense and over-defense are completely different concepts...As a rescued, I know that saying such things will definitely arouse your disgust. But Justin was still a kid. This time he used a vase. The next time I don't know if he will use a knife. I don't want him to blur the lines between kindness and justice. I am even more reluctant that one day he will lose confidence in this society because of his bravery. "
After listening to her words, Edward only replied, "After talking so much, you want to say that fish begins to stink at the head?"
Jane looked back at him without blinking. Two seconds later, she replied aloud, "Yes."
Answering this word, she was scolding herself as a fool in her heart. This was the work she had worked so hard for. After only a few days, she gave up on herself, knowing what kind of person Edward was...
Sure enough, Edward said solemnly, with an air of danger, "I paid you to teach children, not teach me how to behave."
No one could change Jane's mind when she was stubborn. Looking back at Edward, she said calmly, "You are indeed my client. But I don't make Justin a mission. I dare not teach you how to be a human being. I just want you to be a good dad. And Justin can have a healthy and happy childhood. "
As early as the moment she spoke, Jane had already sentenced herself to death in her heart. Teachers should not only be able to teach, but also be able to nurture children. But now, there were many teachers who couldn't teach well, let alone nurturing children. She was used to seeing parents who loved their children so much that they didn't allow others to criticize their children at all. But now, she even went too far and scolded the parents directly.
Before coming to S City, Charles chatted with her for four hours. He specifically instructed her to treat the teacher's profession as a business and not to talk too much about personal feelings. Otherwise she herself will be disappointed. Knowing this, she was still emotional.
Jane was ready for Edward to drive her away immediately. In fact, he was silent for a long time. It was too long for her to suspect that he would not only dismiss her, but also kick her ass.
"You don't take Justin as a mission. What do you take him for?"
Edward's voice remained low. Jane gave it up and replied calmly, "I want to say that I treat him as my brother, but he certainly won't like it. He may reluctantly allow me to be his friend."
Edward said, "How long have you known each other?"
"I will always remember him well for what he did today," Jane said.
Edward said, "It seems that I saved you two in the end."
Jane paused again. Looking at her, Edward continued to ask, "You think he is his brother and I am his father. Then what will you call me in the future?"
How to call him?
Edward is Justin's father. If she thought of Justin as her younger brother, Wasn't she going to call Edward fa... father?
Many men and women in love will play with the internet meme "Call me Dad." Jane, who has never been in a relationship, knew it as well. It's just that she never imagined that the first person to make fun of her with this meme would be Edward.
She had psychological endurance and had seen many good-looking men. But for some reason, she blushed at him.
She hurriedly explained: "Mr. Smith, don't get me wrong. I didn't expect to take advantage of you!"
