Chapter 232 The Wright Family Is Unlucky
Justin told Jane that night that he would prepare breakfast the next morning. Jane thought that he had found a breakfast shop where the food was delicious, but she received a copycat pineapple cake in the end.
Seeing her smiling, Justin said with vigilant eyes, "What does your expression mean?"
Jane said, "Happy! Can't you see it?"
"I think you're laughing at me."
"Dear Justin, I'm almost moved to tears." Jane pretended to wipe the nonexistent tears away. Although she had no tears, she let Justin see her eyes.
Justin said without expression, "Make do with it. I made it casually. When Henry comes over at noon, let him cook."
Jane scooped a spoonful of cake and tried it. Although the cake didn't look attractive, it tasted nice. This was the fourth one Justin had made. He asked her to eat the cake because he thought it was fine to eat. As for the other three ones, he had not fed them to the dogs, but he had left the burned-based one to Edward.
Jane was slightly surprised. "Henry will come to cook?"
"Your hand is wounded, isn't it?" Justin asked, as if this was his task.
Then Jane looked gratified. Before she felt touched, Justin said hastily, "I'm afraid of bacteria."
Jane curled up her lips and said, "Don't try to deny you care about me." At the same time, she thought, "But you refuse to admit it stubbornly."
After breakfast, Jane sat on the sofa to work, and Justin sat at the table to do his exam paper. They did not disturb each other, but occasionally, Justin would ask about related formulas without looking up, and Jane would simply tell him with her head down.
Just a few seconds past 11:00 a.m., Henry came to her apartment. As soon as the door opened, he could not wait to look down at her hand, which had been treated, but was not bandaged because of the length. Thus, Jane let it stay that way. In fact, it would heal faster that way.
Seeing the long blood-red cut, Henry immediately turned sullen and asked, "Which family is the bad child from?"
Jane said with a light smile, "You don't know the family."
Henry came into the apartment. As he changed his shoes, he said, "Tell me which family he is from. I'll go visit him."
Justin's voice came from the inside, "I know."
Henry walked inside. "Give me the house address. He doesn't know what he shouldn't do! I'll go tell him how he should behave!"
"Cook lunch first," Justin said, thinking that they would have the strength to teach the child a lesson only when they were full.
Hearing the two boys' serious talk, Jane said hurriedly, "Dear boys, I beg you not to go make trouble!"
Henry said, "Don't worry! This has nothing to do with you. I'll take care of it."
Suppressing her smile, Jane said, "How could it not have anything to do with me? He didn't scratch you guys anyway."
Henry said, "Scratching you is equal to scratching us."
Jane finally could not help but laugh, and said, "Don't think about it anymore! I'm fine anyway. It's just a seven-year-old child, but you are grown men. Ignore him."
Not looking back, Justin complained calmly, "I asked you not to speak of it aloud. Just go there secretly. That's all, isn't it?"
Henry said, "I'll go anyway, but I must inform Sister. These are two different things."
Justin and Henry were people of different characters. One was cold with a strong will, and the other was strong-willed with softness, but they were both strong-willed in general, so they could not bear to see Jane suffer even the slightest grievance.
Seeing that the two of them had made up their minds, Jane dissuaded them with her might, "You really don't have to go. He's just seven years old. What will you do to him? If you dare to shout at him, you'll be accused of frightening a minor. The key is that his parents can't control him, so why do you have to help teach him how to behave? Such a person will suffer sooner or later. You just need to wait and see."
Justin said calmly, "We're all minors, so we generally have common interests to share with each other."
Henry said, "Don't worry. I promise I won't touch him."
It was because Justin would beat the child. As for him, he would simply watch and make sure that the child was not paralyzed because of the beating.
Jane was afraid that the two boys would go to Rhett Wright. If the news that a sixteen-year-old and a thirteen-year-old beat a seven-year-old boy for a twenty-five-year-old woman's sake was spread, she would be ashamed, wouldn't she?
"Hey, you guys, listen to me..."
Jane was trying her best to ask the two boys to give up their unwise plan when her mobile phone on the table rang. She walked over and saw the name "Eloise Wright" on the screen.
Jane slid to the answer button. "Eloise?"
But a man's voice came out of the phone, "Hello, Miss Cooper, this is Eloise's dad."
Jane paused slightly but then said, "Hello, Mr. Wright."
"I'm terribly sorry, Miss Cooper. I just came back from a business trip today. I've just learned that Rhett scratched you. Have you been to the hospital for treatment? Is it serious? I'll really sorry..."
Jane said, "I'm all right. I'll be fine after disinfecting the cut at home. I'm okay, but Rhett's behavior is improper. He likes guns very much, and he often aims his gun at others. He shot Eloise and the little dog yesterday. I couldn't suppress my temper that I broke his gun. That's my fault."
"You don't have to say that. It's not your fault at all. Rhett is so mischievous. Even if you had beaten him up, that would be fine. Just now, I scolded Rhett's mother. I told her, 'You gave birth to a son, but you don't know how to raise him properly. A mother who spoils her son will make a wastrel out of him. It's bearable to see his disgrace at home, but he has wounded our tutor.' To tell you the truth, I was so ashamed to make this call..."
Jane had met Eloise's father before when teaching in their house. Although she had rarely exchanged words with him, she could see that the man preferred boys so much to girls and loved his son more. Otherwise, if she had anyone to rely on, Eloise wouldn't have to live such an oppressive life now.
How could a man get enlightened in a day? Unless something happened, or he had to bend his back to apologize because of someone.
Jane said, "This is not something to me. But when you're free, you should tell Rhett that his sister is his family, not his enemy, so he shouldn't beat or shout at her at will. Besides, Eloise is getting prepared for the ACT, and she has so much pressure because of it. If possible, I hope you and your wife pay more attention to her state."
"Yes, right, what you say is also what I'm thinking. I've just asked Rhett to apologize to Eloise. Miss Cooper, could you spare some time? I want to invite you to a meal. For one thing, I'll let Rhett apologize to you to your face; for another, I'll thank you for helping Eloise."
Jane said, "Never mind. All children make mistakes. If they can correct them, that's enough. As for what I've done for Eloise, that's what I should do."
But the man strongly insisted on inviting her. It seemed that if he could not see her, he didn't know whether she was really not angry or was pretending for the sake of sounding kind. For her, she could feel whether this was his sincere apology or his helpless choice. Then she more strongly suspected that someone had given him pressure.
"Mr. Wright, I have an appointment with someone this noon."
"Then what about this evening?"
Jane had no choice but to agree.
After she hung up, the two boys, who had been listening next to her, looked at her simultaneously.
Jane said, "You've witnessed this, right? His dad called me to apologize in person. He'll have a talk with me face to face this evening. You really don't have to go to his son anymore."
Justin asked calmly, "Where to have dinner this evening?"
"What do you want?"
Henry said, "We'll go with you."
Jane sat down on the sofa, decadent. "My brain is so tired. The two guys aren't my bodyguards, but my masters! And who told the Wright family to behave without my knowledge? Was it Edward? Only Justin and Edward knew it last night. It was probably him. God, they're a family who will take revenge for whatever grudge!" she thought.
