Chapter 233 The Squad to Fight the Evil
Jane had tried her best, but she still couldn't dissuade Justin and Henry. The two of them insisted on going with her, but promised that they wouldn't do anything, and that they would just take it as a chance to have dinner.
The Wright family had reserved a private room. The three of them went together, and Justin and Henry took seats at a table in the outer hall. Jane said, "Take care of yourselves. Stick to your promise to me."
Justin said impatiently, "Go, go! You've been nagging all the way here."
Jane curled up her lips and said to Henry, "Watch him. If there's anything, call me."
"Okay, go in."
After settling them down, Jane went into the private room. The whole Wright family were in there. Seeing her, the man rose first to greet her with a smile, "You're here, Miss Cooper."
Jane nodded and said, "Mr. Wright."
Eloise called, "Miss Cooper". Her mother also smiled and nodded at Jane.
The man ask Jane to take the seat of honor, which was not a show of respect but almost fawning. After exchanging civilities with her, the man got straight to the point. Tilting his head to look at the boy playing a mobile phone game sitting next to the woman, he called, "Rhett."
But Rhett did not look up or raise his eyelids. The woman reminded him in a whisper and reached out to take his phone, but he immediately took it back to continue to play the game.
Seeing that, the man snarled, "Rhett!"
The woman coaxed him in a low voice, "Do you remember your promise to Mom at home? Quickly. Be good."
Full of unwillingness, Rhett raised his head and said, "What to do?"
The man said with a frown, "What to do? What did I bring you here for? Look at Miss Cooper's hand. This is what you did yesterday. Didn't you say you would apologize to Miss Cooper to her face?"
Jane was silent in the chair, not saying anything to ease the embarrassing atmosphere. After being urged again and again by his father, Rhett, who did not even look at Jane, said casually, "Sorry."
Jane remained silent. The woman studied Jane's face, and displeasure appeared in her eyes as if she was dissatisfied with Jane's reaction. Of course, it vanished the next instant.
Seeing that, the man had no choice but to be severer. "Look at your attitude! Get up, and apologize to Miss Cooper solemnly that you were wrong, and that you won't mess around again."
Rhett was unwilling. Sitting next to him, his mother coaxed him in a whisper, saying that she would buy him toys, but he should be obedient.
The boy got off his chair, looked down, and said mechanically, "Sorry, I won't scratch others anymore."
His mother immediately looked at Jane's face, but saw that Jane's face was as indifferent as ever, without even a small smile on it.
His father also looked at Jane's face. At first glance, he knew she was very dissatisfied, so he instantly said with a flattering smile, "Miss Cooper, my child knows little about the social world. Then his mother and I will apologize to you for him. Don't take his attitude to heart."
As he spoke, he raised his glass, not giving Jane a chance to refuse-he wanted to force her to accept his apology. He thought that she would feel too embarrassed to refuse him, and the thing would be over like this.
But his smart calculation did not work. Jane was not a person who would let things slide. More importantly, what she was angry with Rhett about was not that he had scratched her hand.
Not raising her glass, Jane said nonchalantly, "Mr. Wright, you don't have to raise your glass so soon. In fact, apologizing to me or not is not so important. It's just a cut in the skin. I'll be fine in a few days. The point is I've been so afraid during the two days that if I had not stopped Rhett in time, would he have wounded Eloise's eye? You and your wife have always attached great importance to Eloise's academic performance. If her eyes were wounded in such a critical time, what would you do then? And both of them are your children, and they are equally important. It's hard to decide who should be punished. If a blunder is made, whatever you say, it will be too late."
"Yes, yes, yes," Mr. Wright put down his glass and repetitively responded.
But Mrs. Wright said, "His dad has confiscated Rhett's gun. We won't let him touch it anymore. He also knows he was wrong, and he had apologized to Eloise yesterday. Eloise, say something."
Mrs. Wright looked sideways at Eloise, signaling to her with her eyes.
Looking at Jane, Eloise said softly as always, "Miss Cooper, I'm fine. Rhett scratched your hand, and I'm sorry about it. I apologize to you for his sake. Please forgive him."
The Wright family all fixed their eyes on Jane, but their expressions were different. Mr. Wright had hope and worry, Mrs. Wright studied her with restrained anger, and Eloise was irreducibly depressed and helpless.
Jane could imagine that Eloise's parents had taught her how to behave before they came here. Whether she was happy or not, or willing or unwilling, she had to bear some "criminal responsibility" for the "perpetrator".
Sorry for the girl, Jane said with a smile, "I'm not angry with him."
Seeing that she no longer insisted, Mr. Wright immediately said, "Miss Cooper, you have great tolerance. It's my family's luck to have invited you to be Eloise's tutor. When Eloise gets a little older, we'll also have to ask you to help us give him discipline."
Jane smiled lightly, "Since you trust me so much, then I'll say something else that might not be nice for the ear. I think Rhett has to apologize to Eloise."
Mr. Wright was slightly stunned, but he instantly did as Jane demanded. He turned aside and said to Rhett, "Have you heard it? Apologize to your sister, quickly!"
As expected, Rhett refuted, "I won't. Why do I have to apologize to her?"
Children were simple. This child might have a bad character, but his straightforward manner was basically the same as every other child's. As he blurted out, he was obviously embarrassing his parents, who had said that he had apologized to Eloise at home.
The atmosphere that had just been eased froze again as these words came out.
Since Jane was present, Mr. Wright had to show his stateliness. "I demand you apologize to your sister."
But Rhett lowered his head to play his phone game, ignoring his father. When his mother urged him, he suddenly shouted, "You're both so annoying!"
Angry, the man got up, rushed over, yanked him down the chair, spanked him hard a few times, and said, "Annoying? Annoying? I give you food and drinks, but you've become so naughty, eh?"
Beaten dumbstruck, Rhett even forgot to cry. Then his mother rushed over and pushed her husband. "Why do you have to spank our son?"
Finally, Rhett wailed hysterically.
"Why do you have to cry? You think you've been wrongly spanked? You almost broke your sister's eye, but she's begging mercy for you. Look, how sensible your sister is! What's the use of bringing you to this world?"
"Why do you have to cry? You think you've been wrongly spanked? You almost broke your sister's eye, but she's begging mercy for you. Look, how sensible your sister is! I brought you to this world, but you're a useless being, aren't you?"
Mr. Wright reprimanded his son, hinting at something, which finally forced Eloise to get up. She came to Rhett and wiped his tears, saying, "Don't cry. Don't play with guns anymore in the future. Whether you hurt people or animals is bad."
Mr. Wright raised his hand, pretending to spank his son, but his wife came up to stop him and looked back, saying, "Eloise, go take your brother out and coax him."
Eloise took Rhett's hand and walked outside. Finally, peace returned to the private room.
With an ashamed face, Mr. Wright nodded at Jane and said, "Sorry to have let you see the farce, Miss Cooper."
Mrs. Wright said, "Miss Cooper, it's also my fault for what happened yesterday. I've spoiled this child, but don't worry. I'll be strict with him in the future. If I did anything improper, please forget me."
In the room, Jane was exchanging faked courtesy with the couple; outside, Rhett was throwing a tantrum, hitting and kicking Eloise. Initially, Justin and Henry thought: they had promised Jane, and the Wright family also had come to apologize, so they could put this matter aside for now. Unexpectedly, they saw this scene with their own eyes. Then, they were so eager to repay all their hatred together.
