Chapter 41 Go To The Party

Chapter 41: Go To The Party
Jane and Jennifer sat in the car. When Jane said that she wanted to attend the party with her, Jennifer sensed something strange and asked her. Sure enough, her guess was right.
Jennifer immediately said, "I won't go. I can't give her a chance to help you. What will Edward think if he knows this?"
When the driver heard this, he looked at them through the rearview mirror. Jane said, "Bill, please ignore her and focus on driving."
Bill Turner was Fred's old friend. Jennifer regarded him as her uncle. They were familiar with each other, so nothing was avoided as taboo.
Jennifer said to Jane, "You don't have to worry about me. It doesn't make any difference if I don't go to the party and don't meet those people. I have my way of developing business. If I'm incapable, why should I open the company?"
Jane said, "Even I didn't refuse her. Why are you so anxious?"
Jennifer said, "Don't tell me I'm not the reason why you go there. I didn't know it was Beth's idea, or I would have refused."
Jane told her, "Calm down. We can't know what she intends to do until we get there."
Jennifer replied, "We shouldn't go there just because it's Beth's idea. Edward will think that you've betrayed him."
Jane said, "What's the relationship between Edward and me? I'm just a private teacher in his family. At lunch, he reminded me that I only needed to do my job well, and I didn't have to think much about other things. A lot of people want to get close to him with my help, including Beth. Her identity is a little special. Edward knows this. As long as I don't do anything harmful to the Smith family, he will turn a blind eye to it. After all, many people hold grudges against him. If they all aim at me, could I bear the consequences even if I want?"
Jennifer hesitated, "But Edward doesn't like Beth. If you're close to her, you will offend him."
Jane said, "If this happened yesterday, I might hesitate, but Edward reminded me at lunch today. He said he wouldn't be in a relationship with the private teacher in his family. Do you know how I felt when I heard that? I wanted to tell Beth immediately."
Jennifer was amused by her thoughts, but Jane said with a serious face, "Edward doesn't like Beth, and he wants to use me to refuse her. The reason why I come to the party is to tell both of them that they can't think much about me. I'm just an ordinary person who draws on the advantages and avoids disadvantages. I support neither of them, and I will only be loyal to the one who can help me."
Jennifer turned to look at Jane. Her face was full of admiration and surprise. A few seconds later, she said, "Do you think you're a little cold-blooded?"
Jane didn't answer the question and asked, "Do you think Edward and Beth care about me?"
Jennifer pursed her lips. Jane was right. It was a matter of interest.
Jane looked ahead and said calmly, "Let nature take its course. In the end, things will mend."
Jennifer took her arm, leaned her head on her shoulder, and pouted, "You'll be my best friend forever."
Jane was expressionless, "But you don't even want to treat me to an expensive meal."
Bill was amused. Jennifer said, "Bill, tell her I'm not stingy. I want to be generous, but I'm just like my father."
Bill said, "I've been listening to you. You're about the same age as my daughter. You two work hard and deal with all kinds of people, but my daughter is only interested in the superstars. I wish she could be as mature as you. Jane, if you have time to talk to her and change her mind, I'll treat you to a meal, no matter how expensive it is."

They joked all the way. Soon, Bill drove from the urban area to the suburbs. There were many private villas here. The rich bought this place and decorated it into a leisure and entertainment area. They held parties here every few days. Jane and Jennifer walked in together. Everyone was well-dressed. A strange man glanced at them and stepped forward.
"Good evening." He took the initiative to say hello.
Jane and Jennifer both nodded in response, and the man smiled, "If I remember correctly, this is the first time we meet."
He took out two business cards. Jennifer accepted it and gave him her card. Jane said with a bland smile, "I'm sorry. I didn't bring my business card."
Her business cards were in her bag, but she didn't want to have anything to do with the people here, so she refused.
The man looked at Jane and said in a warm voice, "It doesn't matter. May I know your name?"
"Jane."
Another voice sounded. Hearing this, they looked up, only to see Beth walking over gracefully in a beige dress. With a smile, Beth looked at Jane and then said to the man meaningfully, "Miss Cooper is the private teacher of the Smith family. I know you don't have children. If any of your friends want to hire a private teacher, don't forget to see her in Forward Education."
Edward's every move would attract much attention in S City. Everyone knew there was a private teacher in the Smith family. Hearing this, the man tried to smile more brightly and said a few words to Jane politely. Then he made an excuse and left in a hurry.
Beth whispered to Jane, "This man has a bad reputation. Don't pay attention to him."
Jane smiled. Then Beth greeted Jennifer. Jennifer smiled, but her heart was filled with vigilance and fear.
Beth said, "let's go. I'll take you to meet my friend. She runs a media company as well. You'll have a lot to talk about."
If Jane hadn't said those words to Jennifer, she would never agree. Moreover, they wanted to know what Beth wanted to do, so they walked in together.
It was livelier inside the villa. Some ladies gather together, talking and laughing. Beth introduced Jennifer to them, and they only nodded politely. When she introduced Jane, everyone looked at Jane with intense eyes.
"I didn't expect you to be so young."
"If Beth didn't introduce you to us, I would have thought you were an actress."
"Beth, Edward hires such a beautiful private teacher. Don't you complain to him?"
Beth smiled blandly, "Just stop. Miss Cooper is a decent lady."
Jennifer was unhappy, and she almost blurted out to refute them. Jane smiled all the time, and her expression didn't change at all. Someone wanted to talk about business with Jennifer and left with her. Beth was not there. Only a few women and Jane were left.
"Miss Cooper, since you're so pretty, why don't you think about being an actress? There are several presidents who run entertainment companies. Later, you can talk to them while eating."
"Miss Cooper is beautiful and talented. Do you think she's an Apple of Sodom?"
"That's right. An actress has to attend all kinds of activities in public. A private teacher can make lots of money, too. Especially a gorgeous private teacher. See, Miss Cooper hasn't been in S City for a long time, but she has become the private teacher in the Smith family. It's amazing."
They all spoke sarcastically. They were not afraid that Jane would be displeased. They were mean and mocked Jane.
Jane smiled and didn't speak. Was this what Beth wanted? If so, Beth had underestimated her!
Jane smiled drily, so those women thought she was easy to bully and spoke more harshly. All of a sudden, someone glanced behind Jane and her expression changed.
Jane turned to have a look. A hint of surprise flashed through her eyes as well.
