Chapter 38: A lucky Tease
Jane talked with Beth all the way back. When she returned to Forward Education, she immediately sat down and turned on the computer. The first thing she did was to search Edward's family members online.
What Jennifer had said could be found on the Internet. Edward's great-grandfather was Chris's assistant. There wasn't much introduction about his grandpa Lewis. His outstanding deeds in business were highlighted, and he was a well-known person in that era.
As for Edward's father Robert, he was called "the advancer", because he never failed in business investment.
Edward had an elder brother, Gary. According to the information, they were half brothers. Gary's mother and other information was not mentioned. It was unknown if he was married or had a child.
Of course, according to the information, Edward was unmarried. Justin was like an open secret. Everyone in S City knew that he was the child of the Smith family, but she couldn't find any information about him online.
Everyone said that Justin was the illegitimate son of Edward. Even Jennifer always gossiped privately, "Ask who his mother is in secret. I'm really curious."
Public clamor could confound right and wrong. Jane believed that Justin was Edward's illegitimate son as well. Moreover, she always addressed Edward as Justin's father in front of him, but Justin didn't refute. If he didn't say that in person...
"Beep..." The phone on the table suddenly vibrated. Jane was lost in thought, so she was startled. Then she saw Edward's name on the screen. Having a guilty conscience, she turned off the web page in a hurry, got up and went to the rest area with her phone.
Pressing the answer button, she said, "Hello? Mr. Smith."
"Haven't arrived at the company yet?"
Jane forgot to call him. She didn't dare to say that she had arrived five minutes ago and she was searching for his information online. She said, "I arrived just now."
Edward asked, "What did she say to you?"
Jane replied, "Miss Brown explained what Eden did."
Edward didn't make a comment and talked about something else, "I don't want you to tell anyone about what you see and hear when you work in my family."
Jane said, "I understand."
Edward said, "I won't let you suffer. How long do you want to renew the contract?"
He was very straightforward. Jane immediately said, "There's no need, Mr. Smith. I won't say it."
Edward said neither coldly nor warmly, "I don't have time today. I'll go there tomorrow. You can renew as long as you want. Don't be polite to me. You deserve it."
After getting along with him for a few days, Jane knew he was discriminating in his rewards and punishments. He seemed to be easy-going at this time. But once she spilled the beans, he would turn nasty.
After a moment of silence, Jane didn't refuse anymore but said truthfully, "Now I've just begun to help Justin with his lessons, and I don't know if he'll get good grades. If he makes great progress, he can learn by himself, and it's not necessary to renew the contract for too long."
Edward said, "Then give him two lessons a day so that he'll get good grades sooner."
Jane asked, "Should I give him two lessons in a row or separately? Now I don't have extra time in the afternoon."
Edward said, "There is no need to come here twice a day. If you don't have time in the afternoon, you can arrange it in the morning."
Jane said nervously, "I agree, but I'm afraid that he can't get up that early."
Edward said, "I'll send you his phone number and you can discuss it with him yourself."
He spoke and acted swiftly. After hanging up the phone for a few seconds, Jane received a text message. It was a string of numbers.
Looking at the number, Jane didn't know whether to be excited or sigh. Since she came to S City, she hadn't eaten many local dishes but had swallowed much anger. After she knew Edward, she was always in an uneasy state, but he indeed gave her lots of benefits.
She could imagine the scene when Edward came here tomorrow and renewed the contract with her. Originally, her workmates said she was a tease behind her back. If he came here again, perhaps they would regard her as a lucky tease.
After drinking a glass of juice, Jane dialed Justin's phone number. Several beeps came from the phone, and then a familiar voice sounded. "Hello?"
Jane smiled and said, "Justin, it's me."
Justin said, "I know it's you."
Jane could imagine how he pretended to be clairvoyant through the screen. She smiled and said, "How do you know it's me? Did you save my phone number last time?"
Justin did not answer and asked, "Why do you have my phone number?"
Jane replied, "Your uncle......" Saying this, she lowered her voice and whispered, "Your Uncle Edward gave it to me." Her voice was so low that Justin could hardly hear her.
"Why do you call me?" He asked coolly.
Jane suddenly changed the subject and asked, "When do you get up every day?"
Justin said warily, "Why do you ask this?"
Jane replied, "In order to let you get rid of me as soon as possible, how about having two classes a day?"
Clearly, Justin paused and then said, "What benefits can I get?"
He actually didn't object, which meant that she could discuss with him. Jane smiled and said, "Of course you can get benefits. I'll bring you something good."
Justin said, "Keep your cake to please Uncle Edward."
Jane said in a kind tone, "You're my boss. What's the use of pleasing him?"
Justin snorted, "You don't even know who's the boss in order to reach your goal. Aren't you ashamed to be a teacher?"
Although he said so, Jane could feel that he was smiling. He spoke one way but thought another.
As expected, a boy couldn't resist flattering words. Jane coaxed him, "It's not class time now. We are friends. The most important things is to be frank to each other. Don't mind the age gap."
Justin said, "Call me Mr. Smith, and I'll promise you."
No matter what, Jane was a private teacher. Although she said so, she must have backbone, right? However, Jane knew when to yield and when not. She said readily without hesitation, "Mr. Smith, from now on, you call me Miss Cooper in class, and I call you Mr. Smith in private. We stick to our own principles, okay?"
Justin couldn't help but cover his mouth and try not to laugh. At least six or seven seconds later, he replied, "Alright, I'll keep my words."
Jane had a fake flattering smile, "Okay, see you tomorrow."
She finally hung up the phone, moved her lips and sent a message to Edward, saying that Justin had agreed. Edward seemed to be busy and didn't reply immediately. She drank up the juice and turned to leave the tea room.
As usual, everyone was busy in the office area. Some workmates passed by Jane. They nodded politely to greet each other. She didn't know what had happened in just a few minutes. It turned out that someone had recorded the conversation between her and Justin and sent it out. Naturally, they couldn't hear what Justin said, but she called him Mr. Smith and coaxed him patiently.
"When do you get up every day?"
"In order to let you get rid of me as soon as possible, how about having two classes a day?"
"It's not class time now. We are friends. The most important things is to be frank to each other. Don't mind the age gap."
The one who recorded it said that this was the conversation between Jane and Edward. Everyone sneered. No wonder Edward signed a contract with Jane. She looked decent on the surface, but she was really good at bewitching men!
Moreover, Edward actually liked to be coaxed!
