Chapter 79

Maya had gotten information that Zeidan was going to Los Angeles and she had waited on the side of the road connecting the driveway to the main road that leads to Los Angeles in by the side of the road. She waited for about twenty minutes before she saw Zeidan’s black Audi car speeding onto the main road. She quickly turned on her heels and followed him.

She followed patiently, waiting for the right time to engage him. Very soon, they were on the main road with bushes on the sides of the road, this was the best time to engage him she thought.

She jumped on the bonnet and the car surged forward. Zeidan noticed this and increased his speed too, and the hot chase began. Maya began to gain on him quickly. An indication that her ancient powers cannot be underestimated. She had chosen the right time for this mission.

She swerved to the right side of Zeidan’s car and opened her door. Swiftly she jumped on the windscreen leaving the car to turn three sixty and moving to crash into the signpost that indicated they were 10 kilometers away from the city of Los Angeles. She jumped her way into the passenger’s seat beside Zeidan, pulled out the dagger she was concealing, and aimed for his heart. Zeidan quickly held her hand while he steered the car with his left. The dagger of course got a great deal of his left hand and graced his chest a little. The truck moved about the road as the two started a fierce battle in the car. Maya went the vampire way and attacked with great speed. Zeidan blocked all her attacks still with one of his hands and managed to keep steering with the other.

As she was about to grab the steering and make them crash, Zeidan grabbed her by the neck and tossed her out of the vehicle.

“Aaarrrggghhhhh,” Maya screamed in frustration.

She started running towards Los Angeles as she followed the trail of the car. After some minutes, she gave up and decided to tend to her wounds. Thinking of what her next plan should be, she felt this could be a golden opportunity she might never come across again. A few hours later, she rose and made to find him with his car trail.

Soon, she came to an opening, a pharmacy store with Zeidan’s car parked in front.

She drew out her sword and approached the store. She saw a woman at the counter rounding up for the night probably.

"Where is he?" Maya asked aloud, her face and voice stern.

"Where is who? How may I help you?" Samantha replied with a confused expression.

"Where is Zeidan? I know he came in here." She said this as she approached Sam with her sword.

"He’s not here I swear." She said in consternation.

"If he isn't here then where is he?"

"I don't know..." She was cut off when Maya drew out her sword and pointed it toward her throat.

"Just save me my time and tell me where he is before I kill you."

"I swear, I don't know!" Her voice was shaky but she couldn't believe her. Zeidan's car was still outside.

Without hesitating, she drove the sword through Samantha’s throat and watched her gasp for breath as blood gushed out through her mouth and neck. She cleaned the blood on her sword off with Samantha’s clothes and returned her sword into its scabbard.

Maya checked the restroom to see if he was hiding there but she didn’t see anyone. But she was sure he was here. His car is just outside the building. He couldn’t have gone far or could he have gone through the back of the building? She wasn't very sure of that.

She kicked the neatly organized shelf containing drugs in frustration and they crashed into each other, pouring on the floor.

As she was about to leave, her attention was drawn to a written note on the counter.

        No 200, N Spring St,

                    Los Angeles

        California, USA.

Perhaps the note was left for a friend. Well, she didn’t care but this is the address of Zeidan’s office. It had his name on it. Where else could he have gone anyway?

Maya hopped into Zeidan’s damaged car and drove halfway to the address on the paper. She walked the remaining distance to the office. She entered the building, a big oak plank table stood in front of her with a lady with a welcoming smile staring at her. The office floor was a well-polished marble and there were three couches at the far corner on the left.

On the table in front of her, there was an office tag that indicated the name of the person sitting at the desk. Gillian Smart.

"How can I help you Miss?" the secretary asked.

"I’m looking for Zeidan. Do you know where he is?"

Seeing her appearance, she knew this lady wasn’t here for just talks or business. She carried a scabbard and she saw the dagger in her belt as she walked in.

"I’ll tell you where he is." She said.

"Then you better start talking." She said reaching for her sword. But then, Gillian pulled out a wooden stake.

"What do you have to offer me? I can’t possibly give you such great information just for free." She said with a wicked smirk on her face.

Maya's eyes were unsmiling and she reached for the Kryst in her cloak pocket.

"Here, this is a Kryst that was given to me by my husband."

"What is this worth anyway?" Gillian asked.

"That is worth a fortune. You can get whatever you want materially with that. But please just hold on to it for me."

"Ok, Zeidan left just now. He said he was heading to his friend’s place. Samantha, I think, is the owner of the local pharmacy store down the avenue. If you had gotten here ten minutes earlier, you would’ve met him in the office." Gillian said.

"Damn it! I just left there now!"

He must’ve parked his car there and come straight to his office.

She snapped out of the thought of how she had missed him on her way to this place.

"Thanks, Gillian."

"You’re welcome."

Chloe watched as Maya narrated her escapades with so much furry in her tone.

Maya continued,

"Immediately Gillian told me he was in the store where I had just left, I went back as soon as possible in Zeidan’s car. Getting back there, the place was untouched. It was just the way I had left it. Although I searched the perimeter just to be sure he wasn’t there before driving back to the office to tell Gillian I couldn’t find him in the store."

"So where is the Kryst?" Chloe asked.

"She was gone when I got to the office."

"There’s no way you could’ve missed him on the way, Maya. It doesn’t make any sense. Did you check his office before you offered Gillian the Kryst?"

"No, I didn’t."

"Zeidan was in the office all along." She said placing her left hand on her face.

"Yes, I can see she did a good job. That bitch tricked me. And when I went back there, I was told she wasn't in the office." She said with rage.

"What about the kid you gave a pair to?" Chloe asked hesitatingly. She didn't want to think about it.

"I...I took care of her already."
