Lyne sat still on the bed with her arms wrapped around Tina's cold body when the elevator dinged and Zeidan rushed in. He was looking just as pale as she felt but she was glad he was around. As soon as he got inside, he slowed his pace and walked to her side where he crouched and placed a gentle hand on the girl's forehead.
"She didn't deserve this," Lyne muttered, tears rolling down her cheeks with every word she said. "She was just a cherry kid who was just embracing life. Unfortunately, life decided to throw its hurdles at her. Doing what it knows how to do best. Being cruel."
Before she knew it, Zeidan sat on the edge of the bed and swung an arm around her, pulling her in an embrace.
"You're right. She deserves the best and not this. But you've got to know it wasn't your fault."
"I should have asked her more questions and tried my best to protect her but I didn't." Her voice was shaky and if she wasn't sitting, she would be afraid of slumping.
"You did the best you could. Stayed up overnight to try and dig up the truth. That's something no other person would have tried to do." Zeidan made effort to console her and he was doing his best.
But was it enough? Somehow, they had dragged Tina into their problems and she has had to pay with her life. Poor kid. She had said her parents were no more and she lived with people she never liked. What was it that made her say she doesn't like the people who took her in and gave her a roof over her head? So many things to explain but she was no more to ask. She was gone. Forever.
"I won't rest until I lay my hands on Maya and tear off every chunk of meat in her body and watch the life drain from her. I won't stop until I do." She gritted.
Thirty minutes later, blue and red bright lights had surrounded the company with men in uniform, parading the building and asking questions. She was at a corner watching all the activities before Zeidan walked up to her side and dropped a jacket gently around her. She smiled at him gently.
He called the authorities when he was sure she was stable enough to let go of Tina's body. The ambulance came along and her white, cold body was wheeled into the back of the van. It squeezed her heart to see that that was the end of the innocent little girl.
"How're you holding up, ma'am?" She looked up to see a robust-looking officer wearing his police uniform that looked like it could tear anytime with the pressure pressed against it with his protruding stomach. He was half bald with speckles of blond hair filling his hair and he had a pinkish complexion, a small nose, and little eyes hidden behind the tiny glasses. If she was to be cruel and decided to compare him to an animal, he looked exactly like a well-fed pig.
"I'm feeling okay." She muttered and he nodded, his neck barely seen as they were folded over.
"Good. I would like to invite you for questioning."
Lyne made sure she gave him a deadly glare that made him flinch, but when she felt Zeidan's hands pressed on her shoulders, she calmed down.
"Thank you. My men will lead you into the police vehicle and drive you to our station unless you want to go with your vehicle." He offered.

"No, thank you. We'll rather we come with our vehicle." Zeidan answered and he nodded and left after glancing at Lyne for the last time.
"I can see how you might see this as hard but I want you to believe that whatever you say here will help us with the investigation." It was Mr. Piggy who later introduced himself when they showed up at the station later that day as Peterson Duke.
"You mean the kinda investigation that helped Samantha get the justice she deserves?" Lyne threw back, her inside fuming with anger. Enough of these humans thinking that they know better.
"Er...the drug store owner's case is still under observation. Once the autopsy is out, we might carry on with the investigation."
"Might. Nice. And then after a little while, when everyone else has moved on, you can easily sweep it under the carpet." She snapped not minding Zeidan's hushed voice for her to calm down.
"Mrs. Bran, I'll plead that you take it easy and answer all our questions. That way, you have helped in attaining justice as well for Tina. And hopefully for Samantha."
"Shoot, Mr. Peterson," Zeidan told him and as he adjusted his glasses, he took out a pen and a small jotter, ready to take down points.
"How is Tina related to you guys?"
"We are not in any way related to her. We found out that she helped us find a stolen artifact from the company and she returned it to us immediately." Zeidan answered.
"The artifact. Can I see it?"
"Sure." He dug his hand in his coat pockets and dropped a pair of the Krysts. Peterson stared hard at the black jewelry for a while, obviously mesmerized by its beauty or work of art.
As he raised a hand to touch it, Lyne stopped it with her hand.
"Don't you dare? It doesn't belong to you."
"Mrs. Bran, need I remind you that you can be arrested for your unruly behavior?"
"Try me." She spat unremorseful, her arms folded against her chest. For a while, the officer's eyes locked with hers before he regained composure and took his jotter.
"Do you know of anyone who might have shown similar interest in the artifact or that you suspect might have stolen it?"
"Not one that I know of," Zeidan answered coolly.
"Your company is very renowned and known for its efficiency in delivering the best artworks which means this jewelry that was stolen is of great importance and should have been reported to the nearest station. Why didn't you report a case of theft?"
She could see Zeidan tilting his head and she could tell when he was tired of being patient and gentle.
"I own my company. Therefore I alone can decide what to do with it. By the way, whoever stole the jewelry couldn't have been the one who killed Tina. I mean, when she showed up at our doorstep, she was bitten."
"By what? A dog? A greyhound that also thought of killing the couple and their daughter as well? Why did she show up at your doorstep by the way?"
"Enough!" Lyne snapped as she banged her hands on the table, rising.
"Enough of all this bullshit. If you ain't ready to take on this case, then leave it to us. We know what to do."
With that, she grabbed her purse and walked out of the room.
