Chapter 92 Who Is He?
Liu Cuihua was beamed with pleasure as the creases formed around her eyes with a grin. But she tried not to show that, saying, "What a waste of money! Such shoes are too great for me as a villager who spends most time in the fields."
Wu Er'cheng said, "Mom, your sons have been old enough to take over the work in the fields from you. So don't worry and just try them on to see if they fit you."
Since they insisted, Liu Cuihua finally took off her old shoes and tried the new ones on with the help of Su Jiuyue.
It turned out Wu Er'cheng's estimate was right and the shoes happened to be a perfect fit.
"Mom, don't bother to change them and just go home in the new shoes," Er'cheng said.
Liu Cuihua didn't think so. "Are you kidding? Then such great shoes will be worn out by the long way across the mountains. So I'd better change them."
Since Liu Cuihua was pleased, they didn't stay longer and embarked on the return journey.
"Dacheng, lift Zongyuan in your arms since he's too young to keep pace with us. If anyone asks about it, tell them he's your son. Are you clear?"
Wu Dacheng was an honest man and scooped down to pick up Mu Zongyuan as Liu Cuihua said.
But Su Jiuyue watched helplessly as Mu Zongyuan kept hold of her hand.
Liu Cuihua pinched the little boy's cheek and coaxed in a soft voice, "Jiuyue is too young to carry you. Just let Dacheng do it, okay?"
After looking at Su Jiuyue who had a small frame up and down, Mu Zongyuan finally agreed.
Then they headed towards the city gate with Wu Dacheng carrying Mu Zongyuan in his arms and Liu Cuihua holding Su Jiuyue's hand.
It turned out that the security checks on people who were to leave eased off since the guards wished people to get out of the crowded city as soon as possible.
But just as they walked out the gate, some riders hurried over and said something to the guards. Then the gate was instantly closed.
Su Jiuyue and the others looked back and were only grateful that they made it in time, without taking it seriously.
Only Mu Zongyuan rested his head on Wu Dacheng's shoulder, his eyes flashing with a meaningful look.
Without a heavy load, they spent little time on a break on the way back.
When they got to the village, the moon had risen and everyone was asleep. So no one was aware that they brought back a kid.
Finally, they stopped at the door. Su Jiuyue walked up and knocked at the door. "Open the door. We're back."
Much later on, the sound of footsteps came from inside. Then the door creaked open to reveal a handsome face.
It was Wu Xiyuan.
A day's separation brought out Wu Xiyuan's great longing for Su Jiuyue. At the sight of her, he spread his arms around her with his eyes flashing with surprise.
"Jiuyue, I miss you so much!"
As the laughter came from behind, Su Jiuyue felt her face burning with embarrassment. Then she patted his back. "I miss you too. But you need to let go first and let me show something to you."
Hearing her words, Wu Xiyuan immediately let go of her and looked at her with a twinkle in his eyes, just like a child. "What's it?"
Su Jiuyue held his hand and said, "Let us in. It's so cold outside."
Wu Xiyuan nodded without hesitation. "Alright!"
Mu Zongyuan watched this scene in silence and looked at the strange man up and down in the moonlight.
Aware of his stare without scruple, Wu Xiyuan looked across and found a kid carried on his brother's shoulder.
"Dacheng, who is he?"
