Chapter 91 A Caring Family
"The Great Learning costs two dollars each," the salesman said.
Su Jiuyue subconsciously turned to Mu Zongyuan who gave her a nod of approval and then picked up another book.
"What about this one?"
"It's The Doctrine of the Mean and also costs two dollars each."
The salesman could see Su Jiuyue meant to take them and continued, "If you take both, you'll get Three Character Classic for three."
Su Jiuyue heard this book before which her master said was a good primer for kids.
Thinking of this, she took out four dollars and handed it to the salesman. "Alright. I'll take them."
She thought it was an excellent value as a primer for so many kids in her family.
She put the books into her bag, walked out of the door, and happened to see Liu Cuihua hurry over.
"Jesus! Jiuyue, how could you disappear all of a sudden? It scared me."
Before Liu Cuihua went to the opposite market to get some vegetable seeds, she left Su Jiuyue to stay there with Mu Zongyuan. But when she came back from the purchase, the two of them were nowhere to be seen.
Liu Cuihua hurriedly asked people around for it and finally knew they were here.
Nothing could be more worrying than the disappearance of a girl and a kid.
Su Jiuyue was very sorry about the trouble she had made. "Mom, I'm sorry. I just wanted to get two books for Xiyuan and never thought you'd be back so soon."
Liu Cuihua didn't mean it as blame but felt it necessary for Su Jiuyue to learn a lesson. Then she pretended to pull a face and say seriously, "Never repeat it. If you're abducted, I won't bother to save you."
Su Jiuyue knew she was in the wrong and didn't talk back whatever Lui Cuihua said.
Liu Cuihua was satisfied with her attitude. Seeing that Su Jiuyue got nothing for herself but books for Wu Xiyuan, Liu Cuihua asked, "We will be back. Do you want anything else?"
Su Jiuyue thought for a while and said, "Sugar-coated haws. I've promised it to Xiyuan."
Liu Cuihua said with a smile, "Alright. You'll have one helping each."
Then Liu Cuihua wound up taking many sugar-coated haws and even Mu Zongyuan got a share.
Mu Zongyuan had never tasted anything like it which was included as unhealthy food on stalls by the servants who took care of him.
He liked sugar-coated haws so much, so he wound up holding them without eating a bite along the way.
When the three of them arrived at the city gate, they joined Dacheng and Er'Cheng.
The two of them bought some colored cloth that was obviously for their wives. Liu Cuihua complained to herself, 'No wonder people tend to say a married son won't spare any thought for his mother. I even remember to buy sugar-coated haws for each of them, but it turns out that the care isn't mutual.'
She was somewhat upset, but no more.
Seeing them come over, Da'cheng and Er'cheng called excitedly, "Mom, look!"
Dacheng took out a wooden hairpin with a tastefully carved shape of begonia.
He scratched his hair with a silly grin. "I happened to see this and felt it would suit you. What about trying it on?"
Liu Cuihua was stunned for a moment and her eyes were moist.
But she didn't know a bigger surprise awaiting her.
Then Er'cheng took out a cloth bag with a pair of embroidered shoes with lifelike patterns inside.
"Mom, try them on and see if they fit you. If not, I'll take them back and the store will exchange them."
