I woke up with a start, to find my body dripping with sweat and the bedroom light still burning fiercely. I got up and turned off the tormenting light, my whole body aching with unfulfilled longings.    I still responded so passively to his touches and I knew no man can ever replace Marc as he could make me untrollable and it was only he who could turn me wild and do things that no one woud ever think of. I sighed and turned over restlessly as I threw myself again on the big bed and after some time I went off to sleep. When I woke up next the sun was shining brightly through the window and there was the smell of coffee from the small tray bedside table. Ada must have just left it there, I thought struggling quickly and reaching out for my watch, kept on the bedside table.“OMG! It’s one in the afternoon.” I had overslept.I gasped for breath and then quickly hurried out of the bed and drank the cup of coffee. I was not sure I will be able to get on the flight to London that day. It was running around my head as I slipped into a yellow-colored top and a simple black skirt, twining it with a jacket that completed the outfit I was wearing. I was comfortable enough for the journey.I would ask Ada to go and ask one of the maids to pack my luggage. For a while, I ate my brunch hastily, which was kept by Ada on the table. My plan of action was clear for the day. I pinned my hair into a knot and wore a pair of comfortable shoes before heading towards Marc’s room. There were no other members of the family around, when I reached the lower floor, I saw that the dining room was deserted. I was forced to admit that I was relieved at not having to face anyone, although how I was to accomplish my departure without meeting Marc was a big question as my passport was in his custody.I halted outside Marc’s door to listen. Was he still sleeping or had he eaten his lunch at the usual hour? There was silence in the room, giving me no clues but as I moved away on tiptoe the door suddenly opened behind me and Marc was standing there in a brown gown and pajamas.“Awake at last?” he asked teasingly. “ I thought you were never going to wake up.”“ I was very tired Marc. How are your bruise?” I asked examining him very closely.“You looked like a little girl, curled up on your side .” He said and my heart at once began to beat faster as I realized that he had been in my room while I slept but how? I thought I had bolted it. Well but then again it was Marc and he can do anything. And this is his house. Then he added, “I am fine Carmen, that was nothing.”He had a tense expression on his face as he grabbed me towards his room, “Let me go! I need to head back home.” I said struggling from his grip.“Ada has left some lunch for you.” He said, ignoring me and my comments.“I will eat it at the airport once I reach Milan,” I said determinedly.“You will eat wherever I tell you and no I am not going to give you back your passport. End of the discussion.” He said before I said anything.“Damn you, I snapped. “ Stop pushing me around Marc!” There I finally lost it.He pushed the door with his foot and let me go resting against the door, his broad shoulders resting on the panels. “ Sit down and eat your lunch,” He said coldly.Even if I was angry I knew I didn't have a choice.Ada had left a tray covered with a cloth. I took off the cloth and my stomach churned with hunger reminding me that I was hungry. The food was looking delicious, even though it was cold. I ignored him and sat down and began to eat. Marc poured himself a cup of strong coffee from the pot and it disturbed my nostrils.“That’s too strong for you.” I told him and he gave me a frowning look in reply."I am old enough to decide what's bad for me and what isn't," he retorted. His coffee had no sugar in it, I noticed and it was as black as night. He had always been a coffee addict, drinking cup after cup of that stuff, always this strong but then he had just been through a very serious accident and he shouldn’t consume it. Caffeine was not good while he was still taking his medicine.“It’s bad for your health! I told him seriously. As I didn't want him to fall sick again.“It works for me as I am really frustrated,” he said softly sending a wave of angry color into my face.“I am not listening to remarks like that,” I burst out and retaliate. “How can you talk to me like that? After what you did! ““What did I do?” He asked with a sudden harsh note in his voice. “ As far as I know, I had desired you last night just like the old times and so did you. We are adults nothing to be ashamed of."I looked at him almost as taken aback. “You know very well what I mean! ““Tell me,” he clipped out his face he looked very pale.I could have thrown the boiling coffee into his face, my handshaking with a desire to hit him. “Don't pretend your memory has gone again,” I taunted.“My memory is perfect,’ Marc told me with a smudge expression. "How is yours?”“Every detail comes back as a sharp knife,” I said my voice shaking and my green eyes wide and bitter. “I saw you remember, do you think I have forgotten one iota of what I saw? And even after her divorce she has come back to you and is throwing herself at you and you don't discourage her either. Because you both can never live without each other. I don't know why you let her go in the first place!"Marc thrust his hand deep into the pockets of his dressing gown staring at me. “No, I don't suppose you have.”The admission hurt me with a bang which was like a sword plunging into my heart. We have never spoken of it before. I had not seen him from the moment he had walked out of our flat and I had to return to London. Now I looked at him with trembling anguish and hatred in my eyes. I definitely a foolish woman. Who had no control over her emotions?“How can you treat it so lightly? Did you expect me to ignore what you've done? Would you? If you had been there one to walk in and see me naked in someone else's arm would you just have said, Oh sorry, excuse me and walked cheerfully out again?”I could see a flicker of pain pass through his eyes before he said, “Because I did not see you naked with Taylor, does that make it easier for me, do you think? ““I never slept with him ” I broke off, furious with myself because had I deliberately given him the impression that I had slept with Hart and it was small comfort for him to believe that. His eyes were sharp and narrow searching my face. “Haven't you? You said you had. And even though you did not sleep with Taylor, what about your fiancé? All these years seeing him all the time and now you are engaged to him, you expect me to believe you are not his lover? And you have come here to divorce me just to get married to him.”“My relationship with Don is none of your business to go back with. Anyway, I'm going to marry him you do remember that I hope? We got engaged.” I said stubbornly. His lips curled back in fury over his teeth. “Oh, I remember it. It was all that was in my mind as I drove that day.”“Oh God! “I put a shaking hand over my mouth. “When you crashed ?”“When I crashed,” he agreed thickly, those little flames in his dark eyes. "I pulled myself together. “Now I suppose you are trying to claim, it was my fault you crashed?”He shot me a disapproving look and said, “It was my fault for being so stupidly affected by seeing the notice you had sent me that morning. If I had my mind on what I was doing I would have seen the lorry before I hit it.” “Too bad, that for once your concentration wasn't working properly.” I marked coldly. “I thought nothing ever came between you and your work.”
