MARA'S POV
I find myself smiling whenever I remember how Maru and I celebrated our first month as husband and wife.
Imagine the effort that he exerts to surprise me on our first month?! What more if it's our first anniversary?
And as my way to say thank you for what he did last night, I decided to take a vacation leave from work and cook lunch for my husband.
I also wanted to surprise Maru that's why I did not tell him about my plan to visit him in his office.
When I enter the building most of the employees came to me to greet me. I'm a bit surprised because it was my first time visiting here but the employees were able to recognize me.
I was too busy with my work in our company which is why I was not able to find time to visit Maru at his workplace. That is why I will not miss this chance to surprise him.
I'm also excited and curious at the same time. I want to know what he looks like when he is working. I also want to know how he is as a boss and if he is a serious or cool boss.
I already know the floor of Maru's office. He already told me about it. But I still went to the reception area to inquire about Maru. I did that for formality considering it's my first time here and I was not properly introduced yet to the employees here.
"Good afternoon!" I greeted them.
Their eyes widen a bit. I assume that they recognize me.
"Good afternoon Mrs. Ottave!" They greeted me.
I smile at them and asked. "I'm visiting my husband. Is he in his office?"
"Yes, Ms. Mara but just to be sure, we'll just call his secretary to confirm if Sir Maru is in his office or went on a meeting." One of the receptionists said.
I nodded. While I was waiting for confirmation, I took a glance at the lobby. Just like our building, their lobby also has a minimalist look, simple but elegant.
"Ms. Mara as per Sir Maru's secretary, your husband is in his office. It'll assist you in the executive elevator."
I smile at her. "Great! Thanks. ..." I look at her nameplate "Abbie."
Abbie assisted me to the executive elevator, she push the 30th-floor button before she went out.
When the elevator door was closed I suddenly felt nervous. I think it's because it's my first time surprising him. I can't help but be nervous about his reaction.
When I reach the 30th floor, my heart is beating crazily. I let out a heavy sigh before I went out of the elevator.
Maru's secretary saw me and was about to greet me but I signal her to be quiet.
"I want to surprise my husband," I whispered to her.
She just smiles and went back to her work.
I was about to open the door when I heard him and his dad talking. The receptionist or Maru's secretary did not tell me that Maru still has a meeting with his dad.
I furrowed when I hear my uncle's angry voice.
"What's the meaning of this Maru!" Uncle said angrily.
I hide so that I won't interrupt them
"What do you mean dad?" Maru asked curiously.
"Don't play dumb with me young man! Look at those papers! What is she doing in our company!!!" Uncle's voice raised.
"Dad she applied and she was able to pass the interview that's why she is now working here." Maru calmly explained.
"Do you think I'll believe you? I thought you were happy with Mara?!"
That got my attention. Why did his dad mention my name? And who is the person uncle is referring to?
"Yes, dad. We just celebrated our first month yesterday." He looks tired of explaining.
"Then why is your mistress working here?!"
My eyes widen. What is he talking about?! Mistress? Does Maru have a mistress?! Who is she?
"Dad, Jana is not my mistress!" He said angrily.
His father smirks.
"Really? Then why is she here? If she is not your mistress why can't you cut your connection with that girl?! You think I didn't know that until now you are still seeing each other?!" Uncle said.
I can't take this anymore. I think I've heard enough. I don't want to hear more about it. It's like I was slapped in the face to wake up from my crazy dream.
I went out of his office and went straight to the elevator. I ignore the call from Maru's secretary. I just want to get out of here. My hands were shaking as I push the button to the basement.
When I reach the basement. I walked so fast like someone is chasing me. I almost run like a mad girl. I want to leave the building as fast as I can. I want to have a safe place. When I went inside my car, my tears began to fall. I just let myself cry.
I laugh bitterly. I even scolded myself for hoping that my marriage with Maru will work. I want me and Maru to be like a normal couple. I thought it was possible, but I guess I'm wrong.
Then the reality hits me again. There is no more hope for me. I am just a business wife and forever will be.
