Chapter 32

MARU'S POV
My conversation earlier with Yelle completely ruined my whole day.
I don't know what is going on with that woman.
If she were not Mara's best friend, I would have kept my wife away from her.
She looks crazy. I really can't remember what I did to her for her act like that.
Flashback
My dad wants me to study abroad, but I chose to study at college here in the Philippines.
I want to watch my future wife's every move. I also planned to study at the same university as her.
I often see Mara with a man and a woman. I didn't like the guy from the first day I saw him. I don't want him to be so close to my fiancé because it's very obvious that he likes her.
I wanted to be close with the people she's close with, but I can't find myself acting friendly with Alex. I know he's my rival. That is why I tried to approach Yelle and be friends with her.
She's very friendly, and I didn't have much trouble making friends with her. I often got news about Mara from her without her noticing.
"I guess you're not with your friends?" I asked her.
She pouted. "Alex asked me to give them this time for the two of them."
I frowned. "Why, what's happening?"
"Well, Alex is planning to confess to Mara today!" She hissed.
My eyes widen. "What did you say?!"
"You are overacting. As if you are more affected than me!" She said while laughing.
I suddenly got nervous, so I calmed myself down before talking to her again.
"Then why do you look so annoyed? Don't you want them to be together?" I curiously asked.
"It's not like that. They're both my friends. Even if I like Alex, I'll support him if that will make him happy." She explained.
I'm still confused. "Why are you acting like that?"
She shook her head. "Because I know that Mara will reject him!"
I smiled from what I heard, but I tried to keep my face serious.
"How sure are you that she will reject him?"
"Because Mara's heart is as hard as a stone! She doesn't let any man into her heart! I only met one person who softened her heart, but that person suddenly disappeared, so her heart became even harder!"
"Who is that guy?" I have an idea, but I want to be sure.
"You don't need to know. Mara introduced that person to me when we were in high school. We went to his school."
Hearing Yelle's story suddenly broke my heart. I know who they are talking about, and I can't be wrong.
The next day Yelle and I met again. She told me what happened to Alex's confession. And just like what Yelle said, Mara rejected him.
I secretly smiled.
'Good job, wife,' I told myself.
After that, I continued my plan to be close to Yelle until one day, she confessed to me.
"I like you, Andrew!" She said shyly.
My eyes widen. "Yelle..."
I heard her chuckle. "You are so slow in making a move. I feel like if I don't tell you anything, nothing will happen to us."
I suddenly got nervous and pissed at myself at the same time. I think I unintentionally lead her on.
I don't want to hurt her because first, she is Mara's friend; second, I consider her a friend.

"Y-yelle, I-i'm s-sorry," I said, almost whispered.
I saw tears form in her eyes. I feel sorry for her.
"I-it's okay at least now I know." She said while trying to make her voice lively.
"I'm sorry, Yelle. I don't want to see you hurting."
Her tears flowed, but she also wiped them away quickly.
"No, it's okay! Please don't make it a big deal! It's not your fault." She gave me a forced smile.
"I'm g-getting m-married." I should let her know.
"H-huh? To whom?" She asked, a bit confused.
"To M-mara," I whispered.
Her eyes widen at my revelation.
"It's you?!"
I frowned.
"Alex told me that Mara's parents already had chosen someone for her. And that person is you?!" She said, still shock.
"Huh?"
It made me more confused.
"Mara told Alex who is the guy that her parent chose for her; that's why she rejected Alex. He did not tell me who the guy is. And Mara started to avoid us a bit because Alex confessed to her." She explained.
We both fell silent, still absorbing what we told each other.
"Did you reject me simply because you have to marry Mara? If you are not arranged to marry her, is it possible for you to love me?" She asked me in a serious tone.
"I love your friend. She's the person I want to marry." I told her shyly.
"How come? You don't even talk with each other?" She asked curiously.
"But we've known each other for a long time. When I was young, I already like her. Though I know that she didn't like me." I confessed, a bit embarrassed.
She heaved a sigh. "That will be hard. But I hope my best friend will learn to love you."
She looked at me intently. "Since you two will get married..."
She paused. Then she gave a genuine smile. "You have my support. Please promise me that you will make her feel that she is loved and make her happy!"
***
Yelle and I had an excellent closure back then. I don't understand why she is like this to me now.
I came home tired, not from work but thinking. I immediately went to Mara in our daughter's room.
I saw my wife's back standing in baby Tanya's crib. I went to her and hugged her from behind. This is what I need after all the stressful thinking.
She caressed my face. "My husband looks so tired."
I was happy by the tenderness of her voice.
My husband
My husband
My husband
It's nice to hear my wife say that over and over again. I am willing to give everything in exchange for that endearment that my wife has given me.
"Kind of, but this hug from my wife is all I need to be recharged," I said softly to her.
She turned to face me.
After she turned, I hugged her and kissed her quickly.
I heard her chuckle.
"Tanya is asleep, and maybe now you can take care of me?" I said naughtily.
"My big baby is naughty," she said teasingly.
I pouted and then leaned my head on its neck.
"Wife, please..." I said while my face is still on her neck, giving her light kisses.
I heard her gasp.
I smiled to myself.
"Let's go to our room, wife," I told her.
I pulled her into our room, and then I kissed her.
