Desiree's POV
"I have something to tell you…" I said, he closed his mouth as he look at me.
"Okay, what is it?"
"I applied for a job…" I said, he is tapping his finger on the table slowly and gently as he looks at me, "What job?"
"I mean, I applied for a job as a secretary," I said happily, I just treat him as a friend as of now but he grimaced when he heard that, I think he is not happy with my good news.
I lifted my head at him, "So who's your new boss now?" He asks me gently, his smile is fake and his eyes are telling me that he's not happy at all.
"George Scott." I responded to his question.
"Okay, good luck to your new life," he said as he stood up from his seat and went away from me. I leapt from my seat and chased after him, "Hey, what's that?"
"What?" he asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
I stared at him, his expression altered and he looked at his feet. "I need to go now."
"Okay, good bye."
He kept walking, but when I yelled out his name, "Alexander," he stopped and waited for me to do something, so I raced up to give him a hug, the kind of tight hug that seems like it's suffocatingly affectionate. He hugged me back with a rather strong hug.
After I pulled away, I smiled at him. His face remains serious.
"I just want you to know that I'm grateful to have a friend like you, and if this is the last time we see each other or if there's a chance I'll see you again, I'll be glad."
He said, "Desiree...I've never treated you like a friend, and I hope that has changed your mind."
When he stated that, I was unmoved; I'm not sure why he started saying anything like that. I swallowed hard, not wanting to cry in front of him like a fool, but he did hurt me.
He started walking away from me.
And that hurts a lot.
I groaned, puzzled as to why I felt so uncomfortable, and my heart began to wonder that perhaps he never treated me as a friend because...he has feelings for me as well? I don't want to be a conceited woman who believes one-sided love is the finest.
But his words keep replaying in my mind. I smile while biting my lower lip.
I can't think clearly, so I just keep walking till I crash with a firm chest and a powerful hand grabbing my waist.
"Mister…" I uttered because I couldn't say his name and I'm staring at his perfectly carbed face. He smirked at me and he pulled away gently and smiled at me,
"Hello, Miss McCall, it's great to see you."
"Mister?" I said while blinking my eyes, "Sorry Sir…I forgot your name," I said.
He rubbed his chin with his finger and said, "I'm George Scott. So just call me George."
I opened my mouth and twisted it, "Sorry sir, I was not looking, but are you okay?"
"Yes, I'm okay." He said.
I give him an uneasy smile, and he reciprocates with a smile. I can't help but blush, and my cheeks begin to heat up. Oh my goodness, what is this feeling?
"You are blushing, are you okay?" he said. I bit my lower lip, did he say I'm blushing like a fool now? Oh my god, I need to think of my next move.
I scratch the back of my neck because its too awkward to see my boss in the mall and talking to him like he is an ordinary person then I remembered Alexander who used to be my boss and f*cked me.
"I have to go now, sir."
"I'll see you tomorrow, and I'm excited to work with you."
"Thank you, Sir george." I said and tried to walk now like a turtle, it is a slow motion walk while I am biting my nails. This feels so awkward, I never met him at his office but I just saw him just now looking so handsome and polite to me.
I arrive home thinking that maybe I should move out, that I should find a place that is suitable for me, that a tiny apartment is suitable for my activity. I'm too old to live with my parents and in the same house, and I really need privacy.
So I'll have to look for a little condo for myself.
Then I look out the window, where I remember Enrique waving his hand at me, but he is no longer here. It's a sadness that I've lost someone I care about. I take a long breath and gently exhale while closing my eyes, smiling because I know he'll be happy with my decision to live my life just like what he wanted me to do.
I saw Alexander's visage while scrolling on the internet; he is the face of Robert's Company.
He's incredibly attractive, yet he's a jerk for hurting my feelings today.
"Mom!" I was startled when I saw my mom standing at my door, "Oh dear, sorry to startle you!" she laughed.
"Yeah…" I chuckled. "Anyway I want to rent a condo near to my job." I said.
Her face lit up, "Oh really? Well, before you leave this house, we need to check the condo." She said and I showed her the phone, "Don't trust anything online…I know someone that we can trust." She said, "Oh really mom?" I muttered and sat on the edge of my bed while scrolling at my phone, "Yeah because there's a lot of scam people online so, I will find a good condo for you, for your security so that you can sleep every night." She tapped my shoulder gently, then I closed my phone and hugged her.
"Really mom? Thanks, I am excited to move out!"
"But if you want to take your boyfriend in you condo-"
"Mom, trust me, I don't have a boyfriend,"
"Really?!"
