Chapter 9
In Vanessa Green's opinion, anyone who had received a bachelor's degree could write down the contents of these recordings.
Vanessa did not care much about how Sophia Yost wrote down the contents of the recording, because the deadline for the exclusive interview with Shawn Yeats was coming, and there were still many details to be worked out.
Vanessa had never spent so much time on an article since she worked.
It did not mean that Vanessa was not hard-working in the past. She had a clear analytical mind and she was proficient in writing, which would enable her to be very competent in her work. Most of the time, she worked with ease.
But this time, it was very difficult for Vanessa to write this article.
Vanessa felt it very challenging.
It was true that Shawn had shared a lot of information in this exclusive interview. Because of this, Vanessa found that the biggest difficulty lay in the choice of the contents of his words.
It seemed that if any part of the interview had been cut out, the rest of it would lack continuity in logic.
Vanessa had to think twice and carefully before writing.
To enhance concentration, Vanessa took out a pair of noise-canceling headphones that she had not used in a long time, put them on and set the frequency to the highest. The world quieted down immediately, and even the sound of the air flowing disappeared.
Many people rested at their desks during the lunch hour, and the lights in the office area also dimmed.
After listening to the record of the whole interview for half an hour, Sophia only wrote three lines of words, many of the technical terms were pure guesswork, and the rest of the interview was beyond her comprehension.
Sophia looked around and then moved her chair quietly to Vanessa, intending to take advice from Vanessa.
Sophia leaned over and whispered, "Vanessa?"
Vanessa did not respond.
Sophia took a deep breath and asked again in a louder voice, "Vanessa?"
Vanessa did not even blink.
It could be said that Sophia had never been treated so coldly since she was a child.
Sophia sat back down, took off her headphones, and put them back into her bag. She quickly packed up her things and was ready to leave.
However, when Sophia was about to hit the "off" button, she got sober for a moment, closed her eyes, and took deep breaths twice.
Sophia gave in to Vanessa.
--
-
Vanessa was completely absorbed in Shawn's thoughts. When she looked up again, it was already six o'clock in the evening.
People who worked at the magazine got off at six in the evening, but none of the media companies' employees left on time.
The atmosphere in the office area was not as serious as before while working overtime. Some people were chatting with each other quietly and their voices were heard just around their office cubicles.
Vanessa faintly heard someone talking about the trainees, so she turned to look at the cubicle next to her subconsciously.
- The cubicle next to Vanessa was empty.
The chair had been kept in position, the computer had been turned off, and even the desk had been cleaned up.
Sophia seemed to be a girl who liked keeping neat and tidy.
But Sophia did not seem to like working very much.
Vanessa was somewhat speechless about Sophia.
Sophia was so unmotivated on her first day of the internship, Vanessa did not know what trouble Sophia would make in the future.
Vanessa rubbed her forehead, moved the chair, leaned on Tracy Jones's shoulder, and said in a tired voice, "Stop writing. Let's chat for a while."
"What do you want to chat about?"
Just as Vanessa was about to speak, she heard a gentle clapping sound from behind.
Everyone looked in the direction of the voice.
Lily Scott stood there, and she was alive with happiness, followed by a girl who wore no make-up.
"This is Janet Hawk, the new trainee here today. Please help her in the future work!"
Lily brought the newcomer over to introduce her to everyone, which meant that the two of them had had affiliation with each other. Everyone greeted Janet Hawk politely one after another.
In this harmonious atmosphere, the empty seat beside Vanessa looked a little strange.
How could a scheming woman like Lily let go of such details? She glanced over there and asked Vanessa with a smile, "Where's your trainee? Why did not she come to get to know us?"
The enmity between Vanessa and Lily had never been exposed to the other colleagues, so they still acted like they were close colleagues in public.
Vanessa chuckled, "Sophia's off work."
"Sophia left so early..." Lily set her chin, turned to wave towards Janet Hawk and said, "Go ahead with your work."
Vanessa was left speechless by Lily's words.
After this episode, the other colleagues who worked overtime were immersed in their works again, but it was difficult for Vanessa to pay full attention to it.
Vanessa, out of the corner of her eye, saw Sophia's empty seat. As soon as she saw it,  she would think of Lily's indistinct arrogant look just now.
When Vanessa took the time to go to the washroom, she met the human resources manager, so she casually inquired about Janet.
Well.
Vanessa told herself that she did not feel unfair at all.
After sitting back at her desk, Vanessa heard people discussing behind her.
"The trainee Lily mentored has an impressive background. Janet's family were financial practitioners, so she has powerful backing. Her aunt seems to be a senior executive of Mingyu Bank."
"Yeah, I was wondering why Lily took the initiative to mentor a trainee, you know, she hates to take the trouble. She really got a good deal this time."
"The more important thing is that Janet Hawk works very hard with such powerful background. She works overtime on the first day of her internship, which makes me feel very stressed."
Vanessa put on the noise-canceling headphones silently.
Vanessa comforted herself that as long as she did not go for comparison, she would not be hurt.

-
At the same time, in the old house of Yeats' Family.
Sophia had never been sensitive to the change of season. Every year, she only realized that winter had come when she saw the loquat tree in the yard bloom.
There were shorter days and longer nights in winter. It was already dark outside, and clusters of white loquat flowers were huddled on the branches, which looked very cute.
The faint smell of flowers floated into the old house and was drowned in the aroma of food.
In the dining room, the mobile phone on the table vibrated several times, but Sophia did not notice it.
At this moment, Rachel Taylor, Sophia's mother, was sitting on Sophia's left, and Edward Yost, Sophia's father, was sitting on her right.
Normally, Sophia would be happy to eat with her family. However, Shawn sat opposite her, so she could not get relaxed no matter how hard she tried.
The long dining table was more than one meter wide, and a row of candles stood between the plates, giving off a shadowy halo.
"How is your first day at work today?"
Rachel talked to her daughter, Sophia, while looking at her phone.
Sophia did not answer Rachel's question immediately. She stole a glance at Shawn and found that his attention was on his mobile phone instead of her. Then she replied in a low voice, "It's not good. It's so boring. I was asked to write down the contents of the recording on the first day. I'm a reporter, not a typist."
"Well," Rachel took a bite of a grape, chewed twice, and asked, "Is it easy to get along with your colleagues?"
Sophia pressed her lips and did not say anything.
As a prominent pop female singer, Rachel was well-known, but she protected her privacy very well.
Even few people in the entertainment industry knew that Rachel had married and had had a daughter.
As a result, Rachel rarely got along with her daughter, Sophia.
At this moment, Rachel was not very interested in the topic of Sophia's work. When her agent just called her, she took the opportunity to leave the dining room.
At this time, Sophia's father, Edward put down his phone and asked, "Who's your mentor?"
Sophia's voice changed, and she sounded a little cold, "I don't remember. Her name seems to be Vanessa or something."
The candle light flickered, and the eyelids of Shawn moved slightly.
Edward asked, "Vanessa Green, is that true?"
Sophia asked in surprise, "Dad, you know Vanessa?"
"Yeah. She's not bad. You should learn from her."
Sophia threw away the towel that was used to wipe her hands and said coldly, "I'm willing to learn it, but is Vanessa willing to teach me?"
"What?" Edward looked a little more serious. He leaned back in his chair and was ready to listen to Sophia carefully.
Even Shawn on the opposite side raised its eyebrows slightly, and his attention was diverted to Sophia.
Although Sophia was forced to go to work, she did not make any mischief. She also knew very well that her performance in this job determined her future life.
Therefore, Sophia wanted to behave herself.

However, Sophia had sailed through life without ever hitting the rough waters for more than 20 years. Wherever she went, she was always flattered. The problem of almost not graduating some time ago was already her Waterloo, but in the end, the school had not dealt with the matter in a brutal way.
Today, she wanted to ask Vanessa for advice three times, but Vanessa did not even give her a look.
Even when it was time to get off work, Vanessa did not even look at Sophia when Sophia picked up her bag and left.
Sophia had never suffered this kind of grievance, nor did she bear it.
When Sophia complained about Vanessa, her eyes turned red unconsciously.
Of course, Sophia did not just bleat about Vanessa. She said it in a more serious tone and with emotions, hoping that someone would pity her and help her get out of the misery.
After that, the dining room remained silent for a while.
Sophia stopped talking and quietly observed Shawn's reaction.
Shawn put the phone on the table and looked up at Sophia.
With just one glance, Shawn looked away and slowly wiped his hands with a towel.
Shawn smiled inexplicably, which made Sophia feel a little nervous.
Sophia did not know what her uncle, Shawn, meant, or whether he had received her tragic news or not.
--
-
Looking out of the floor-to-ceiling window of the office, the moon hung high in the sky, and the flashing neon light outlined the scenery of the night in the city.
Unfortunately, those who worked overtime at this moment would not appreciate this scene.
At ten fifteen p.m, after sorting out the final details, Vanessa sent the article to Zoie Lopez. After that, she rubbed her neck, packed up and took a taxi home.
At this time, there was a traffic jam, and it took her nearly half an hour to get home.
After taking a shower, Vanessa lay on the bed. With a beeping sound, Zoie's reply appeared in the enterprise resource planning system.
Zoie had read it and submitted it to the chief editor without any other opinions.
A series of signs showed that Zoie was very satisfied with this article.
In fact, when Vanessa finished writing the draft, she had already known it and was full of confidence. She could already predict that the sales of this magazine would soar, and the number of online version reading would explode.
Vanessa turned over, rested her chin on her hand, and shook her legs. Then she began to smile.
Everything was fine.
She counted the days, and found that the progress of Shawn seemed to slow down.
Like the weather changed drastically, Vanessa's face fell again and she sighed in a low voice.
Vanessa wished she could add Shawn to friends on Whatsapp.
In that case, Vanessa would not have to worry about how to get close to Shawn every day like now.
Heck, Shawn took the initiative to hit on Vanessa when they first met, but why did not he stop because of her refusal?
Did Shawn have to wait for her to speak her love?
Thinking of this question, Vanessa gradually fell asleep.
The next day, Vanessa received the good news.
The chief editor liked Vanessa's article very much, and he had sent it to Shawn and waited for his final review.
A merry heart made a cheerful countenance. The next day, when Vanessa went to the company, she met several colleagues along the way, both male and female. They all praised that she looked very good today.
When Vanessa arrived at a place where there was heating, she took off her coat and put it on her arm. There was a layer of tassels on the shoulders of her shirt. As she walked, the tassels shimmered and trembled with her footsteps while she walked all the way to the office.
Sophia arrived a minute earlier than Vanessa. When Sophia was applying the hand cream, she heard the noise and looked up at Vanessa.
Although Sophia did not want to admit it, she could not help but look at Vanessa for a few seconds.
Looking at Vanessa's hair, her face, her waist and buttocks, and her smooth and slender calves...
At the moment when Sophia came to her senses, she turned her back to Vanessa and continued to apply the hand cream.
After waiting happily for an entire morning, Vanessa finally received the reply from Mingyu Bank.
Vanessa clicked on the email excitedly.
- "No Pass."
There were only a few suggestions for revision.
It was unexpected, but Vanessa still rewrote it according to the suggestions for revision.
The next day, the negative feedback was sent over, and it still did not pass.
Vanessa couldn't stay calm anymore. She had a vague feeling that something was wrong.
When Vanessa failed for the third time, she went straight to Zoie.
"What does it mean? All they sent me was a "no pass" email with no suggestions for revision."
Zoie had no idea but to say, "This is your first interview Shawn Yeats, and you don't know him very well or don't know how harsh he is."
After that, Zoie sneered, "Didn't you say that Shawn likes you?"
There was a rush of frustration in Vanessa's heart, and there was an inexplicable discomfort, which made it difficult for her to accept this result calmly.
There was a distant look in Vanessa's eyes, and her mind was obviously on something else. After a moment of silence, she asked, "Zoie, could you give me Shawn's phone number?"
Zoie looked Vanessa up and down and asked, "What do you want to do?"
"I'll ask him about it personally."
Before Zoie could think carefully about Vanessa's motives, Vanessa came up close and frowned, looking pitiful.
"Zoie, just tell me Shawn's phone number. My article has been rejected many times. It must be approved as soon as possible."
Zoie still wanted to refuse, but her arm was suddenly hugged and swung back and forth twice by Vanessa.
"Behave yourself. Don't act like a spoiled child." Zoie frowned and took out her mobile phone to tell Vanessa the phone number of Shawn, "Ask carefully to see if you have offended him."
Vanessa was more eager to know the reason than Zoie. After getting Shawn's phone number, she immediately went to the quiet balcony to call him.
However, during this afternoon, Vanessa called Shawn three times, but his line was always busy.
Vanessa sat in her seat and stared at her mobile phone on the desk.
The mobile phone which cost several hundred dollars did not even receive a reply from Shawn.
Outside the window, there was a roar of thunder and lightning. Vanessa was startled by that and suddenly came to her senses. She looked around and found that all her colleagues had got off work except for her.
Suddenly, an idea came to Vanessa's mind. She picked up her bag and left the company.
When Vanessa was about to arrange for a taxi in the lift, she hesitated whether to go to the headquarters of Mingyu Bank or Shawn's home, and she chose the latter.
The dark clouds were like layers of mountains, pressing down on the city, making it hard to breathe. The rainy weather at any time made all the passers-by in a hurry.
Vanessa did not bring an umbrella with her. On the way to Shawn's home, she was afraid it would rain heavily today as it did the day she broke up with Jackson Scott.
But Vanessa did not seem to be so unlucky today. As soon as she had just arrived at the Kiabo Garden, registered her visit, and went downstairs to Shawn's house, Shawn's car appeared.
The car came to a slow stop, but Vanessa seemed to have been absolutely distracted and did not notice it at all.
Shawn spoke nothing sitting in the back seat of the car, and the driver also waited quietly for Shawn's orders.
The sky was gloomy, and the street lamps had not been lit yet. The light in the lobby on the first floor only reached the eaves.
Shawn turned to look at the bright spot through the window.
Vanessa lowered her head and thought about something. She stood still under the dim yellow light and looked statuesque.
As a journalist, Vanessa always dressed up in a dignified and serious way, but she could wear a shirt and pencil skirt gracefully.
The wind suddenly blew the leaves, and the mottled shadow sobered Vanessa. She looked up and saw that Shawn's car was parked in front of her, which suddenly lit her eyes up.
The privacy film of the car window was like a one-way mirror. People outside could not see what was going on inside, but the people inside could clearly see what was going on outside.
Shawn tore his gaze from Vanessa, took off his glasses, and looked down to wipe them.
When Shawn put on his glasses again and got out of the car, Vanessa had already walked to the car.
Shawn stood in front of her in silence. He just looked straight at Vanessa and waited for her to speak.
Vanessa seemed to be smiling, but in fact, she was in a panic and did not know what to say.
Vanessa wanted to ask Shawn directly "Are you picking on me?" Did it sound too tough?
What if Shawn was indeed picking on Vanessa?
Vanessa thought she could not give Shawn this chance to admit it.
In the quiet residential area, there was only the sound of the breeze blowing the leaves.
A few seconds later, Shawn seemed to run out of his patience. After glancing at his watch, he put one hand into his pocket and looked down at Vanessa in front of him, "What's the matter?"
Vanessa suddenly looked up at him and blinked.
"I thought you might be missing me, so I came to meet you."
"……"
"..."
The street lamps suddenly lit up one after another, and the light above Vanessa clearly showed up the tiny fuzz on her fair face.
After a short silence, Shawn did not speak, but smiled.
It was the first time Vanessa had seen Shawn smile.
Although Shawn smiled inexplicably.
