Chapter 53
Tonight, the moon was so shy that it hid in the clouds. The wind blew gently, it blew through the hall, trying to blow up Vanessa's long hair, but it failed because Shawn's shoulder and back shielded Vanessa from it.
Shawn clasped Vanessa in his arms. The two of them were kissing and they could feel each other's breath, and their breathing was quick and uneven with excitement.
Shawn put his hands on Vanessa's waist and waited patiently for her answer when he was drunk.
Vanessa's vision blurred, and she could not see Shawn's face.
Vanessa opened her mouth and sobbed under Shawn's steady gaze, "I'll just like you."
Hearing Vanessa's words, Shawn gave her a light kiss.
It was quite different from the aggressiveness earlier. Shawn imprinted kisses upon Vanessa's lips, and even his fingers ran lightly through her long hair again and again compulsively.
The night wind finally blew Vanessa through Shawn's fingers.
The wind was cold, but Shawn's kiss was very warm. His kiss on Vanessa's body made her feel as if she was getting electric shocks and an obvious thrill, so Vanessa could not help letting out a groan.
Vanessa's voice made her feel ashamed, but she could hardly contain herself, so she stroked Shawn's neck naturally.
Shawn kissed Vanessa for a long time, and then he looked up at Vanessa. Only then did she realize that his eyes were very blurred, which could not even be covered by his glasses.
Shawn was drunk.
Shawn closed his eyes and merely said, "H'm".
What?
That's it?
Vanessa vaguely felt that she heard a feeling of "Well, I've got it," from Shawn's response.
Shawn stared at Vanessa. He was so drunk that he became no longer as cold as he used to be. His eyelashes fluttered lightly, but he did not stare at her gently.
Shawn's eyes on Vanessa made her feel as if she was touched by a burning hand inch by inch, and his loving eyes on her made her feel like he could see her body through her clothes.
Vanessa felt shy and embarrassed under Shawn's gaze. It was as if she was standing naked in front of him.
Vanessa loosened her arms around Shawn, leaned against the door, and slid slowly down to cool her palms. Then she asked in a low voice with her head down, "What are you looking at..."
"Well," Shawn lifted Vanessa's chin and looked at her carefully, "I'm looking at you because you're lost and delirious and your hair was in a mess."
Shawn's voice was very soft, but it made Vanessa breathe quickly in an instant because of awkwardness.
Shawn wiped the corners of Vanessa's eyes and said, "I'm looking at the tears, too."
Being kissed to cry was not something to be proud of. Vanessa thought.
Vanessa turned her head away from Shawn, but she could not breathe smoothly, either. Different from the feeling of suffocation just now, she felt that her chest was filled with hot breath, leaving only a trace of disturbed breath to slowly squeeze out to keep her sober.
Meanwhile, Shawn's mobile phone had been vibrating.
Twenty minutes passed, and Barron Chance kept calling Shawn to go back to the party.
Shawn's hands slid down to Vanessa's chin. He cradled her face and said in a low voice, "Wait for me to come back."
Vanessa blinked and asked, "Oh? You're leaving?"
Shawn replied, "You want me to stay?"
After the warm kiss, Vanessa regained consciousness and finally understood that Shawn might not appear coincidentally. He must have something to do but came halfway.
Vanessa could smell alcohol on Shawn's breath, so she guessed that he should have been having social intercourse.
"No." Vanessa gently pushed Shawn away and said, "You can leave now. I'm going to sleep."
"Don't sleep. Wait for me."
Shawn looked up at the door behind Vanessa and said in a low voice, "Don't open the door for strangers, okay?"
Shawn regarded Jackson Scott as a stranger, thought Vanessa.
Vanessa tried hard to hold back a smile and said, "Sure. You must go."
--
-
In the corridor outside the door, Jackson had not left yet.
Jackson stood quietly outside the door for more than ten minutes, and finally, he realized that the man who suddenly appeared was Shawn.
Jackson could not see what was happening inside, but as a man, he knew very well what it meant for a drunk man to rush into a woman's house at night with the door closed tightly.
Jackson could only force himself not to think about it.
However, the occasional faint noise coming from the door was like a bomb that smashed Jackson's delusion and made him feel that what was happening behind the door seemed to b vividly presented in front of him.
The imagination had always been more convincing than seeing.
Jackson seemed to hear the lustful voices of Vanessa and Shawn all around him, lingering in his ears, and he could not get those voices out of his head.
Jackson could not tell whether he was hearing imaginary voices or not, because his mind was buzzing and he could hardly stand.
However, the door opened just then.
It was quiet inside.
Nothing seemed to have happened inside.
Jackson deluded himself that Vanessa and Shawn had done nothing.
Nothing had happened.
Jackson breathed a sigh of relief. The moment Shawn came out, he closed the door quickly before Jackson could look inside.
Then, Shawn came close to Jackson.
At the same time, Shawn raised his hand, and slowly wiped the lipstick off his lower lip with his thumb.
Jackson was struck dumb when he saw Shawn wipe the lipstick off his lower lip.
As soon as Jackson saw the lipstick on Shawn's lips, he felt that those imaginary pictures became more realistic in front of his eyes.
Jackson forced himself to look away, but he saw the messy front of Shawn's shirt.
Shawn warned, "Don't ever show your face to Vanessa again."
Shawn spoke quietly, but Shawn's words hit Jackson like a hammer on his head. "Got it?" asked Shawn.
Shawn was not asking permission.
However, Jackson had nothing now.
Jackson was not afraid of losing more.
The only thing Jackson wanted to do was to bring Vanessa back to him again.
Jackson thought that although he and Vanessa had broken up, she must still love him.
Jackson was so drunk that he felt that there was nothing to care about.
After all, Jackson had lost everything and he thought Shawn had nothing to fear.
"We..."
"You're done."
Shawn came closer as he interrupted Jackson.
"If you persist in approaching Vanessa..."
Shawn was in a pretty good mood at this moment, so he was willing to reason with Jackson and try to convince him, "You'd better give up pursuing Vanessa."
Under the indication of the lipstick, Jackson could not refute it at all.
Shawn sneered at Jackson, and what he said pushed Jackson to the point where there was no way out.
"If I see you pestering her again, I'll make you pay for that. I have many ways to make you live in pain for the rest of your life."
Jackson's arms trembled and he became sober. He could feel Shawn's threat.
"Get away from here, or else, I won't be so easy on you."
--
-
Inside the door, the wind blew through the hallway and blew away the smell of alcohol left behind by Shawn.
But Shawn's breath seemed to remain in the narrow space of the hallway.
Vanessa leaned against the wall and was still immersed in the atmosphere just now.
Vanessa did not want to smile, but she could not control the impulse to smile.
After leaning against the wall for a while, Vanessa heard the doorbell ring suddenly.
Vanessa thought it was Shawn who was ringing the doorbell, and she turned to open the door, "Are you back so soon?"
Hearing this, the delivery man was absolutely confused.
Vanessa's smile froze, and she stared at the delivery man awkwardly without speaking.
The delivery man felt that although he had been late for more than ten minutes due to a mishap on his way here, he did not think Vanessa would act a bit foolishly after waiting for a while.
"Happy Women's Day! I'm sorry that I'm late with a mishap. Could you please don't complain about me? I'll send you a red envelope as compensation... I..."
"Never mind."
Vanessa took the takeout from the delivery man and said with a smile, "Happy Women's Day!"
The delivery man was puzzled by Vanessa's words again.
This is not a holiday for men, the delivery man thought.
The delivery man guessed that Vanessa was probably starved.
--
-
When Vanessa returned to the dining room, she heard her stomach growled twice more.
But Vanessa felt less hungry. She slowly opened the takeout box and found that the shopkeeper had forgotten her notes and put scallions in the food. She patiently picked them out one by one.
Vanessa's mobile phone on the table suddenly vibrated.
Vanessa glanced at her mobile phone and turned on the speaker.
"I'll fly to Lantrie tomorrow night," Emily Lynd spoke in a hurry, "don't forget to pick me up at the airport."
"You'd better not come, because I'm too busy to accompany you," Vanessa picked out two scallions with a smile and pretended to be cold.
Emily asked, "Why are you so busy? You must be joking."
Vanessa muttered, "I'm busy dating."
However, Emily was not aware of the key point that Vanessa was dating in Vanessa's words. Emily spoke quickly as she complained to Vanessa, "Shitty luck! Cheryl Brown is too difficult to deal with because she insisted that our company should send someone to talk to her face to face. Those who don't know her will think that she is a big star."
Cheryl was their alumna, and she was also an online celebrity. Emily had asked Vanessa to put her in touch with Cheryl some time ago.
Although Vanessa had got Cheryl's contact information, she did not get in touch with Cheryl, so Vanessa directly recommend Cheryl's Whatsapp account to Emily.
"Although we haven't contacted each other yet, we were still classmates and lived on the same floor, right? She embarrassed me... Wait, what did you just say?"
Vanessa replied, "I'm busy dating. Don't bother me."
"Who's bothering you? I won't sleep in your apartment. How can you say that!" Emily said in surprise, "Why didn't I find out that you'll put your love above our friendship before?"
When Vanessa recalled what had happened just now, she felt her cheeks burning, but she still pretended to be calm and said, "Maybe it was because my ex-boyfriend Jackson was not good enough."
Hearing this, Emily felt she was about to suffocate.
"All right. That's enough."
Although Emily said so, she was still curious about who Vanessa was dating, "Who? Is it Shawn?"
Vanessa replied, "Yes."
Vanessa heard Emily let out a long sigh on the phone.
"It was such blind dumb luck!"
Hearing this, Vanessa coughed discontentedly, "Seriously? I don't think so."
"I'm just kidding."
After the shock, Emily had a stronger appetite for gossip than complaint, "Didn't you just come back from Bostabaca tonight? When did Shawn speak his love to you?"
When did Shawn speak his love to Vanessa?
Vanessa thought about it.
Vanessa had been dazzled by Shawn's kiss, and she remembered that Shawn had just left without saying anything about love.
Hearing Vanessa not speak, Emily giggled.
"No way, honey, you fell in a one-sided relationship with Shawn?"
"You know nothing." Vanessa said in a fit of pique, "We're adults, okay? Who's playing that trick? Tonight, we had all..."
Vanessa suddenly stopped talking.
"What did you do?" Emily kept asking, "Just say it."
Oh, god.
How could such a thing be told in detail to a girl who had no boyfriend?
Vanessa's silence made Emily think that Vanessa and Shawn had had sex.
"On, my God! Vanessa, you already had sex with Shawn? Why didn't I find you so wild before? If I had known it would be so easy to sleep with him, you wouldn't have spent so much time pleasing him."
"Nonsense," Vanessa interrupted Emily awkwardly, "We're just kissing. Just kissing!"
With that image in mind, Emily instantly felt that kissing was no big deal.
Emily pressed her lips and said blandly, "Okay, so you're free to answer my call now? Where's Shawn?"
Vanessa replied, "Shawn's gone."
Emily was very surprised, "What? Shawn's gone?"
"Shawn's busy," Vanessa said proudly, "he came to see me in the middle of the dinner party."
Emily, "Wow."
Vanessa immediately added, "Shawn will be back later."
Emily smiled and said, "Shawn will come to your apartment later?"
Vanessa replied, "Yeah."
Emily, "Wow."
Vanessa was speechless about Emily's response.
"Are you done or not? What do you mean?"
"Nothing. Well, don't forget to prepare the condoms, okay?"
Emily said mischievously, "Otherwise, you'll have to take maternity leave at the end of the year."
"You're talking nonsense."
"I'm not kidding. Otherwise, why would Shawn come to your apartment at night?"
"Let's not talk about this. Give me your flight information and I'll pick you up tomorrow night."
To hide her embarrassment, Vanessa hung up the phone in a hurry.
But when Vanessa was eating, memories of Shawn's tone and expression when he left filled her mind.
Vanessa seemed to feel Shawn's warm breath in her ears with the smell of alcohol, saying over and over again, "Don't sleep. Wait for me."
Vanessa did not notice that she blushed again.
Vanessa did not want to think about it anymore, but she felt an urge to do this. She seemed to savor every minute and every second she had spent with Shawn.
It took Vanessa more than half an hour to finish eating.
Vanessa simply tidied up the table and sat down in front of the desk, ready to read the materials for a while.
But Vanessa could not calm down at all.
Vanessa's mind was filled with Shawn's words "Don't sleep, wait for me", and Emily's words "Otherwise, you'll have to take maternity leave at the end of the year".
The voices of Shawn and Emily circled her ears like demonic sounds, which were very brainwashing.
Vanessa unconsciously put on her coat and walked to the hallway.
When Vanessa opened the door, a gust of wind blew in, which made her a little sober. However, she was still driven by an unknown or impulsive emotion to open the door.
What if?
"What if Shawn forces her to have sex with him?" thought Vanessa.
Vanessa scratched her head and walked furtively.
However, as soon as Vanessa stepped out, she looked up and saw Shawn coming toward her.
Vanessa stopped walking immediately.
Vanessa withdrew her foot guiltily.
However, Vanessa's movements did not escape Shawn's eyes.
Instead, Shawn stopped walking, and slowly sized up Vanessa who was neatly dressed, "Where do you want to go?" asked Shawn.
Vanessa looked at Shawn in a daze, "To your heart."
The two of them all fell silent.
Vanessa did not know if it was an illusion, but she felt that she had seen a speechless look on Shawn's face.
Shawn went straight to Vanessa's apartment, took her hand, and pulled her into the room.
Shawn acted so naturally like he was going back to his own house. Seeing this, Vanessa suddenly became angry and grabbed his wrist, refusing to move.
Shawn turned around. When he looked down at Vanessa, the shadows of the lights above his head reflected the intoxication in his eyes.
Shawn was drunker than ever.
Vanessa could feel the heat of Shawn's palm, but she did not know how much he had drunk because of his thirty minutes of absence.
"What's wrong?" asked Shawn.
Vanessa looked at Shawn with a smile, and there was a clear hint in her eyes.
"Who do you think you are? Why do you come into my apartment?"
Shawn said, "I'm your landlord."
Vanessa was muddled.
Were houses in the subdivision also Shawn's property? Vanessa felt confused.
Seeing that Vanessa was in a daze, Shawn felt that he was even drunker.
Shawn lowered his head, got close to Vanessa's neck, and took a deep breath.
"Don't you want to go to my heart?"
