Chapter 139 Feeling Useless
"Jenny, you should express your gratitude to me. You'd better buy me some gifts to thank me for saving your son."
When the elders of the Heller family heard her words, the corners of their mouths twitched. Jenny widened her eyes in anger. Her blue veins were popping, and her expression was hideous. But she did not dare to hit Teresa.
Teresa had made the elders speechless without resorting to violence. When Hubert saw this, a smile flashed across his eyes, and he thought she was very tough and interesting.
Mariah couldn't help saying, "Teresa, we didn't say it is your fault. We know Troy made a mistake. But you are cousins who are related by blood. We are family. If there is a conflict, we can deal with it at home. If you had told us about it, we would have scolded him. There was no need for you to call the police. When we went to bail him out, we were rejected. Did you ask your backer to prevent the police from releasing him? Teresa, I know you and your sister hate us because of what happened in the past. But we are family after all. You should not have let outsiders meddle in our family affairs."
She was asking Teresa not to tell everything to her backer or let her backer suppress the Heller family.
Hearing her words, Teresa thought that Hubert was right to drag Jenny out directly. Reasoning with these people would not work at all. They believed that because she and Troy were cousins, she should not have called the police even though he had broken the law.
So, she replied coldly, "Every time you emphasize our blood relationship and that we are family, I want to laugh. No wonder you can live such a good life. You are thick-skinned, shameless, and mean! You're the most despicable I've ever seen. You know I hate you, but you still came to lecture me as my elders! Don't you feel ashamed? I don't want to make you too embarrassed. Otherwise, I would have long driven you out with my broom. You don't deserve to be my elders! Bah! "
Hearing this, Mariah instantly blushed with anger.
"Listen! Her attitude is too bad! I told you we don't need to be polite to her! We should teach her a good lesson on behalf of her father! She showed no respect to us, so she has disgraced Andrew!" Jenny yelled.
Hearing her mentioning her dead father, Teresa couldn't bear it anymore, so she immediately went to pick up the broom, held it high, and forced her uncles and aunts out of the store. Talking to them was a waste of time.
"Andrew? How could you have the nerve to mention my dad? When he was alive, how did he treat you? After he died, how did you treat me and my sister? Jenny, go to complain to my dad! Tell him I show no respect to you! If you have the ability, you should let him come back to teach me a lesson! I'm telling you, you are not qualified to lecture me or let me treat you as my elders!"
After driving them out of the store, Teresa was still angry, so she chased after them and tried to hit them while cursing, attracting a lot of attention. However, she didn't care about the onlookers but kept chasing them until they hid in the car. The Heller family did not feel relieved until closing the car door. Fortunately, they had run fast and had not been hit by the broom. They didn't dare to stay any longer, so they hurriedly drove the car away.
Teresa held the broom with one hand, put the other on her hips, and cursed, "As soon as my parents passed away, you divided up the compensation, occupied the house they had built, and then drove me and my sister out of the village. You have never helped us for the past years! How could you have the nerve to lecture me as my elders? You're having a pipe dream!"
She said such words to explain to the onlookers to prevent her good reputation from being damaged. She was a reasonable person who respected seniors. But the premise was those seniors deserved to be respected.
"Teresa, are those people your relatives? Did they come to make trouble for you again? Did they ask you to pay for your grandmother's medical bills? Shame on them! They drive a good car, live in a villa, and have millions of dollars, but they don't want to pay for their mother's medical bills! How could they have the never to force their parentless niece to pay?"
"They are the most shameless people I've ever seen. I was shocked."
"Yeah! Teresa's parents died in an accident, but they had divided up the compensation. Six hundred thousand dollars was a huge amount of money fifteen years ago. They can live a well-off life now because of the compensation for the death of Teresa's parents. They robbed her before and still want to bully her now."
"Teresa, you are too soft-hearted. When dealing with such shameless people, you should have driven them away with the broom as soon as they came. You don't need to waste time talking to them. No matter what mistakes they make, they would never think they are to blame. They will put all the blames on others."
"Teresa, if they come to bully you and force you to pay your grandmother's medical expenses again, don't hesitate to tell us. We will come over to help you drive those ruthless and shameless people away."
All the neighbors knew about the conflict between Teresa and her relatives. Even though they had seen her driving the elders away with a broom just now, they did not think she had done anything wrong. Instead, they thought she was much too kind.
If they were her, they would have raised a few Tibetan mastiffs and let them bite those bastards as soon as they came. They would not have wasted time talking with them.
Teresa said bitterly, "They are my dad's siblings after all. I was too angry just now. Otherwise, I would not have driven them away so rudely."
"No! You did the right thing. Although they are your dad's siblings, they are too ruthless. Few people can do such hateful things as them! Teresa, don't blame yourself. We support you!"
Teresa then thanked her neighbors for understanding her and not blaming her for doing such a rude thing. After the onlookers dispersed, she returned to the store with the broom.
Hubert looked at her with his dark eyes. Every time she got in trouble, she didn't give him a chance to help vent her anger. She had moved too fast just now. As soon as she had grabbed the broom, she had driven her shameless relatives away. And she had also put on a bitter look at the door so that the onlookers had all taken her side and condemned her relatives. So, he felt useless.
Teresa put the broom back in its original place, walked over to him, and said, "They ran too fast. Otherwise, I would have beaten them up!"
Standing in front of Hubert, she looked at him and said, "Mr. Donovan, thank you. You helped me deter them so that they only dared to talk but dared not to hit me."
Hubert had acted the first half of the play and deterred them, while she had played the second half and driven them away. And she thought it was her responsibility to kick them out.
Hubert kept silent for a long time before saying, "Teresa, give me a chance to show my power next time. Otherwise, people will say you married a useless man, and it will disgrace you."
Teresa was speechless to hear his words.
