Chapter 040 Her Heart Freezing
Hubert probably couldn't say anything nice.
It would be better to let him apologize with actual deeds.
"What? Did you misunderstand your wife? It must be very serious. Otherwise, why would you want to give her a gift as an apology?"
Morgan became interested as he sensed gossip.
"None of your business. Go back to work. And you will go talk to Felix about the cooperation tonight. I'm not available tonight."
He was going to accompany his wife to his sister-in-law's house for dinner tonight.
"Why are you not available again? What are you going to do tonight?"
"You should know that a married man can't put all his focus on the company. Otherwise, he might be cuckolded."
Morgan, "..."
He actually didn't know what to say to refute him.
He also understood that his boss Hubert threw his work on him because he wanted to accompany his wife.
'What is a great deal about being married?'
Morgan thought, 'I can get married too. Then, can I also never work overtime or attend work parties again because I want to be with my wife?'
But he didn't have a girlfriend. Even if he wanted to get married as soon as possible, he didn't have anyone to be married to.
With the mood of being exploited by his boss, Morgan went away in depression.
Under the same sky, different people were doing different things in different places.
Since Leila had invited Teresa and Hubert to come over for dinner in the evening, after she fed Andy, she put him in the baby cart and went to the market for groceries.
Just after she left the house, she received a call from Patrick.
"Honey, what's up?"
"Did you go grocery shopping?" Patrick asked her over the phone.
"No, not yet. I just left the house. What would you like for dinner?"
"Buy some more good food. My parents and my sister are coming into town. My sister likes seafood. So, buy some seafood. My mom likes beef, so buy some too."
Leila instinctively replied, "Seafood is very expensive. Your sister wants lobster and bread crab every time she comes. And she will eat several of them at a time. Beef is also very expensive, and it now costs 10 dollars a pound. I don't even dare to buy more for Andy to eat."
She didn't like to entertain her parents-in-law and sister-in-law. Because every time they came, they would not only have grand meals, which would cost her lots of money, but they would also criticize her and badmouth her in front of Patrick. So, every time they left, she and Patrick would have a big fight and a cold war for a few days.
Especially Priscila, her sister-in-law. That woman was a troublemaker. She really loved to meddle with the business of the Cerone family, and she was so good at sowing dissension among others.
"Just buy some more when I tell you to. Don't talk so much nonsense. Also, the last time you bought clothes, you spent over $200 of the money I gave you as our living expenses. You can't use that card again to pay for the groceries today. We've agreed that we will go halves on bills. So, you have to make it up to me to be fair."
Listening to Patrick's words, Leila felt her heart freezing. And she was angry. She thought Patrick raised the "go halves" just because he didn't want Teresa to stay at their house anymore. But Leila never expected Patrick to mean what he said.
"Patrick, I don't have a job now. But I'm at home taking care of your son and running the household. This makes you worry-free so that you can work harder for your career and get a promotion and a pay raise. Although I'm not making money, I'm still putting in the labor and hard work for our family."
"I can't go to work right now. But you're going to insist on this "go halves" system with me. Do you want to force me to commit suicide or force me to go out to work? Fine, let your parents take care of your son. I'll go find a job tomorrow."
"You gave birth to the child. Why should my parents be responsible for taking care of him? I mean, the child is our responsibility. We have to take care of him by ourselves. My parents had already had a hard time raising Priscila and me. It's time for them to enjoy retirement. So, don't bother them."
"Besides, it's not like you don't have any money. The last time you scratched someone's luxury car, you even had money to pay for the damage. Just stop acting like you're poor. If you really don't have any money, ask Teresa for some. When Andy goes to kindergarten, you can go back to work and earn money to pay Teresa back."
Patrick was adamant about going halves on bills.
He felt he was paying too much. Leila was doing nothing at home but taking care of the kid. He had been paying for living expenses and the mortgage, so what money did she need to use?
His mother said to him that although Leila was highly educated, it had no use now. She couldn't earn any money.
A woman who could take care of the family and earn money would be helpful to him.
And plus, Leila didn't care about her look now. She used to be such a beautiful and elegant woman. But now she was as fat as a pig. And she never focused on dressing up again. She was a totally different person compared to her maiden time. Patrick didn't dare to take her to any parties, for fear of being laughed at by his colleagues and clients.
Comparing her to Isabelle, she was like a pig while Isabelle was like a fairy.
Leila was so angry with her husband's words.
She hung up the phone directly.
She didn't tell Patrick that she had invited Teresa and Hubert to come over for dinner tonight.
Patrick's parents and sister were coming. If she asked Teresa to come over too, she guessed that she and Patrick would have another big fight when her in-laws left.
But why should Patrick's family be able to come to dinner while her sister couldn't?
'I have my share of this house and this home.' Leila thought to herself.
Although Patrick paid the first payment for the house and was paying the mortgage, she paid for the house decoration and all the furniture. All of her savings were spent on this family.
With this in mind, Leila was encouraged.
Of course, she would buy more food. After all, she was going to treat Teresa and Hubert to dinner.
Good, Teresa liked seafood too.
Go halves, right? When her in-laws came over, she would record all the expenses they spent on her in-laws. And after her in-laws went back, she would settle this with Patrick!
Also, since he wanted a "go halves" marriage, she couldn't do all the housework anymore.
From today onwards, she would not help Patrick with his part. Let him arrange his own clothes, shoes, and socks. And he could make himself whatever he wanted to eat. There was no way she would serve him like serving an emperor anymore.
When they had just gotten married, he said so many honeyed words to persuade her to quit her job, saying that as long as he was there, she wouldn't have to worry about anything even if the sky fell, saying that he could support her living, and saying that she should stay at home and be his beautiful wife.
Moreover, he made her get pregnant so soon. So, she had to resign because of the pregnancy.
However, after she gave birth to Andy, she was out of shape. In order to have enough milk to feed the baby, she ate everything and ate too much. So, she became fatter and fatter.
Then, she was disliked by him.
Leila looked at her son in the baby cart. It seemed that Andy knew that his mother was looking at him. He turned his head to look at his mother and called out in a cute voice, "Mommy."
Leila gave a "hmm" in response. She reached out and stroked her son's head, saying softly, "Andy is a good boy."
"Mommy... Auntie."
"Andy, you miss your Aunt Teresa, don't you? I called your Aunt Teresa to come over for dinner tonight. Andy, you will be able to see Aunt Teresa tonight."
Andy could understand his mother's words. And a joyful look appeared on his tender little face.
He loved his mother and Aunt Teresa the best.
Looking at her son's little face, Leila suppressed her anger. Patrick's parents refused to help her take care of Andy. But Andy was still too little. She had to put up with it for another year before she could return to the workplace.
As for Patrick's parents pushing her for a second child, Leila didn't want to think about it.
One child had already made her feel so difficult. If she had another child, she wouldn't have any chance to go back to work. Without a job and an income, she felt that she didn't have any place in this family.
Patrick said that Paul and Penny couldn't help them with Andy because they wanted to enjoy their retirement. But Leila knew that they were actually helping Priscila take her kids to and from school. Paul and Penny would rather take care of Priscila's son and daughter than help her and Patrick with Andy.
They were just treating her, the daughter-in-law, as an outsider.
After all, she was someone else's daughter, but Priscila was their own. They were just so biased.
