Chapter 035 It Was about the Dignity of a Man
"Teresa, we've signed an agreement. In just six months, we can get divorced. Can't you start your hunting for your next husband after we get divorced? Why do you have to do that now? Right now, we are still legally married. If you start to choose your next husband now, you're cheating on me."
"Well, I don't like you and I will never fall in love with you. But I'm a man. No man in his right mind likes to be betrayed."
Hubert just didn't like seeing her and Ezra together.
He was being weird and sarcastic because he was angry. He was mad that she was in such a hurry to find herself the next husband, which was clearly a betrayal of him.
Ezra was secretly in love with her.
That man was his love rival!
It was not about love. It was about dignity. It was about the dignity of a man.
Teresa looked around to find something handy. But she didn't find any. So, she pound Hubert hard with her purse, which contained her keys and cell phone. She had practiced freestyle grappling and was good at aim-and-throw.
Hubert did not expect her abrupt move. He was caught off guard and was hit right in the face by her purse.
The purse had keys and a phone in it. And she threw it towards his mouth. So, after Hubert was hit, he felt a pain in his mouth.
He stared at Teresa with a grimace look.
No one had ever dared to do that to him!
Teresa, who had pounded on him, came over and bent down to pick up her purse. She said in a bad tone, "Mr. Donovan, your mouth likes to talk nonsense. It should be smashed!"
"Without asking what had really happened, you've already made up a story with your brilliant and creative mind. Have you always been this bossy and self-righteous, Mr. Donovan?"
Hubert rubbed his sore mouth and glared at her hard.
"What are you glaring at? Do you want to play a game named 'who has bigger eyes?' You know what, you might not win the game."
Teresa hit him with her purse again.
Hubert was speechless. He thought to himself, 'What? Isn't this going to have an end?'
Who gave her the courage to hit him?
Her... Her behavior was domestic violence!
"I was halfway through my ride. But my bike broke down. I don't know what happened. Ezra just happened to pass by. He's my best friend Gwendolyn's cousin. And I've known him longer than you. It could be said that I watched him grow up."
"We are acquaintances. Or, to be more precise, we are familiars. He saw me standing with my bike on the side of the road. So, he parked the car and asked me if I needed help. He helped me get a tow truck to deliver the bike to a repair store. And then he sent me back. There's nothing shady between us. But why do you sound like we are having an affair behind your back?"
"You know, it is said that the people who have shady minds will think of others as the same. Mr. Donovan, could it be that you've already cheated on me and had a lot of girlfriends out there? Maybe that's the reason why you think I'm doing the same thing to you?"
Hubert, "..."
He didn't know how to retort for a moment.
"Mr. Donovan, when we went to register, you could tell me if you don't want to marry me. It's not like I have to force you to marry me. Why do you act like I'm taking advantage of you after we get married? The agreement was made by you. I didn't have any objection to that. You asked me to sign it. I signed it."
"You are willing to give the house and car to me after the divorce, that is your offer. I didn't ask you for those entries. Since you think of me as a scheming woman, who is trying so hard to get your money, I will be at a loss if I don't accept your house and car."
In fact, Teresa wouldn't accept his house or car if they were going to divorce.
The only reason that she married Hubert was to move out of her sister's house so that her sister could relax. This was her only purpose. She didn't want anything from Hubert.

"Mr. Donovan, you always think that I want to find myself the next man. And you think I will cheat on you. The last time I accompanied Gwen to her blind date, you thought the same thing when you saw me sitting with Mr. Moore, didn't you? Those who didn't know the truth would have thought you were jealous."
Hubert forced himself to reply, "Don't worry, I am not and won't be jealous!"
"But you were acting like you were!"
Teresa made her words clear. Seeing his expression and mood ease a little, Teresa couldn't help but tease him, "Well, it looks like you are jealous."
Hubert kept his expression rigid. But his ears flushed. But that was just because he had misunderstood Teresa, not because he was shy. 'I'm not shy! How can I be shy?' Hubert thought to himself.
"It's about my dignity!"
Teresa chuckled.
Now, Hubert's face blushed.
"I don't like you, not to mention love you. Why would I be jealous? I don't care whom you're staying with as long as you're not cheating on me before we get divorced."
"You do not need to repeatedly emphasize that you do not like me or love me. Don't make it sound like I have feelings for you. We got married just because we can be life partners. I am telling you the truth. I did not want my sister to fight with my brother-in-law because of me. I was in a hurry to move out of their house. That was the reason why I would agree with your grandmother to get married to you. I just needed a place to live."
"If you have to say that I want something from you... Yeah, I do want this from you. You have an apartment. I can live for free, which will save me a lot of money on rent. Plus, my sister would feel assured."
Hubert, "..."
Was his house more attractive than him?
He felt righteous when he said he didn't like her or love her.
But hearing her say she didn't like him, nor did she love him, he felt her words stung.
"I will not cheat on you as long as we are a legal couple. We will get a divorce in six months. You have promised me a house and a car. So, why don't I go find my next husband six months later? Till then, I can go back to the dating market with your house and your cart. Isn't that better? Why would I cheat on you and be accused of cheating?"
Hubert had nothing to say.
After a while, he lowered his posture and apologized to Teresa, "Teresa, I'm sorry. I misunderstood you."
He had no reason to accuse her.
He had to lower his posture and apologize.
"You know, you should talk to me if you feel anything is wrong between us. Don't just lock the door to shut me out like that. If your wife has the same personality as you, it will be easy for you two to fall into emotional abuse. You will lose your wife sooner or later."
Hubert was silent for a while and then reminded her, "I am married. You are my wife. Your character and mine are not the same."
Tonight, he was being narrow-minded and looking for trouble.
His thoughts were not as open and innocent as her approach.
Teresa, "... I mean your future wife. Your future wife will not be me."
He had planned to divorce in six months.
His agreement was clear that if they still couldn't develop a feeling for each other after six months, they would divorce.
But she wouldn't fall for such a narrow-minded, arrogant person like him.
But sometimes, he was very considerate, which made her feel that she could rely on him.
"I've never met a woman I like."
"That's normal. Your eyes are on the top of your head like a radar. You scan the people you meet to see if they have any other purpose when they come to you. You must have been blessed by your ancestors that you could have me as your wife."
Hubert was so speechless. He thought to himself, 'Blessed? You should say that I was cursed to marry you!'
He had never met such a self-obsessed woman!
"Okay. We've made it clear. So, go to sleep."
Hubert didn't like her tone. But in the end, he said nothing and went back to his room. He closed the door hard with a loud bang.
Teresa muttered, "I wouldn't be worried even if you took the door down. It's your house!"
