Chapter 100 Surprise
"Mr. Donovan, I'm at the gate of your company. Haven't you gotten off work yet? I'm here to bring you to my store for lunch. Are you surprised and happy?"
Hubert felt speechless. He was surprised but not happy at all! And it was thanks to his extraordinary composure that he didn't freak out.
"Mr. Donovan?" Hearing no response, Teresa said again.
Hubert tugged at his tie and said in a deep voice, "I'm off work, but my client hasn't left yet. We are still talking business. And it will take a while. What about you go back first? I will go to your store for lunch by myself later."
"How long will it take? I didn't drive but taking a taxi here. I'll wait for you at the gate of your company. When you're done, we will go back together."
Hubert raised his hand to look at his watch and said, "There is a coffeehouse diagonally across from my company. I'll meet you there in a while."
When Teresa turned her head, she saw the coffeehouse. She didn't think much about it but accepted his suggestion without hesitation.
After Teresa hung up the phone, Hubert subconsciously breathed a sigh of relief. He had been afraid that she would break in and find out his identity...
Because Teresa had suddenly come, Hubert quickly settled the business with the client after returning to the conference room.
Then, he asked Morgan and the executives to accompany the client to the Waternll City Hotel for lunch.
"Mr. Donovan, are you not going with us?" the client instinctively asked.
"I have something urgent to deal with, so I can't accompany you to lunch today. Let's have a meal together next time."
Today's important client was no other than Richie, the fifth young master of the No. 1 giant in Astroy City, the Rosatte family.
The Rosatte Group had a branch in Watenll City. In the past, the two groups had had no business dealings. The Rosatte Group was very sensible. Since setting up a branch in Watenll City, they had never set foot in any industry that the Donovan Group was involved in to avoid conflicts with the most significant group here.
This time, the Rosatte Group's branch in Watenll City had a big project in which they could cooperate with the Donovan Group or the Lisbon Group. Both the Donovan Group and the Lisbon Group wanted to cooperate with Richie. After talking to the head of the Rosatte family, Richie preferred to cooperate with the Donovan Group. Therefore, the two large groups began to have business dealings with each other.
Hearing Hubert's words, Richie wisely didn't ask any more questions.
When Morgan and Richie went out, the latter's bodyguards were waiting outside.
Richie always took several bodyguards with him wherever he went. It was said that among the ten young masters of the Rosatte family, Richie had the worst fighting skills, so he took bodyguards all the time.
Hubert personally sent Richie to the elevator entrance. After they got in the elevator, Hubert returned to the president's office, took out his binoculars, walked to the window, and looked down. When he saw Richie's car driving out of the Donovan Group, he turn around, took out his mobile phone, called his bodyguards, and asked them to wait for him on the first floor of the office building.
After a few minutes, Hubert went down to the first floor.
"Mr. Donovan."
"You can go to have lunch now. Don't follow me. Give me the key to the Chevrolet," Hubert said as walking.
A bodyguard hurriedly took out the key and handed it to Hubert.
The bodyguards still followed him for a while, and when Hubert waved his hand, they stopped their steps.
Hearing that Huber was going to drive the Chevrolet, they knew he would go meet his wife. So, they did not follow.
Teresa was waiting for Hubert in the coffeehouse. She thought it was impolite if she just sat there and didn't order anything to drink, so she bought two cups of hot chocolate and asked the clerk to pack them for her.
She was sitting close to the door. As soon as Hubert drove his car out of the parking lot, she recognized it and immediately walked out with the hot chocolate she had bought.
With a smile on her face, she waved to him. Soon, he drove the car over and stopped it in front of her. Teresa took two steps forward, opened the door of the passenger seat, got in the car, and fastened the seat belt. Then, Hubert started the car.
"Why are you wearing a black mask?" she asked casually.
Hubert didn't speak but took off his mask. He had left the company's gate, so no one would recognize him. Although few employees had seen his face, he decided to play it safe.
Hubert didn't want to explain, and Teresa didn't ask about it anymore. She said, "Would you like hot chocolate? I bought a cup for you. I'll drink first. When I'm done, I'll drive, and you can drink."
"Thank you, but I don't drink hot chocolate." Hubert barely drank hot chocolate.
"Fine. I'll bring it back to Gwen. She likes it very much. She often has hot chocolate and some snacks as afternoon tea."
"Maybe girls all like hot chocolate. I barely drink it, and I don't like it."
While drinking, Teresa said, "I barely drink it either. It's not healthy."
When Gwen had hot chocolate, she usually had a glass of juice.
"Why did you suddenly come to bring me to lunch?" Hubert asked meekly. "You should have called me before you came. If I had not been in the company, you would have made a trip for nothing."
He happened to be in the company this noon. Usually, he was not in the company at lunchtime.
"Do you often need to talk business at lunchtime?"
Hubert nodded, "We often talk business over meals."
Teresa sighed, "Next time, I will call you in advance. I just wanted to give you a surprise. Now, it seems you were not surprised but shocked. Leila is looking for a job now and will go to my store for lunch, so I cooked more dishes and tonic soup. You take good care of me and are always generous to me, so I want to repay you. Therefore, I came to bring you to my store for lunch."
After a moment of silence, Hubert said, "Teresa, we signed an agreement, but you don't have to always keep in mind that we will divorce when the time comes. We can get along with each other like an ordinary couple. And you don't need to think about repaying me all the time."
"Even if we were a real couple, we must do things for each other. Nothing in marriage should be unilateral," Teresa said plausibly.
Hubert froze for a while and was at a loss for words, for what she said made sense.
"If you don't like me coming to your company or having lunch with me, I won't come again." Teresa thought he had said so because he didn't like her coming to pick him up.
When they had first gotten the marriage certificate, he had told her that they would keep their marriage a secret and that she must not unilaterally announce their marital relationship without his consent.
Hearing this, Hubert fell silent again because he didn't know what to say.
She had come to pick him up and invited him to go to her store for lunch. It showed that she cared about him and paid attention to him.
But they were in a hidden marriage now. He didn't want her to come to his company because once she came, he had to tell several lies to cover himself up.
Teresa took his silence as acquiescence. After taking the last sip of her hot chocolate, she told herself that she would never go to the Donovan Group to pick him up again.
