Chapter 78 They Gradually Became Like a Couple
Hubert was a bit worried that Teresa wouldn't be able to handle the Heller brothers. But he didn't say anything and didn't even call Teresa.
They had been married for a month. He knew Teresa a little better now. If she could not deal with them, she would have called him for help. Since she did not call him, it meant she could handle the situation.
Besides, she was entirely in the right. She would not lose.
Holding this thought in mind, only after Hubert got off work in the evening did he pick up his Chevrolet and drove to Watenll City School.
When Hubert left the office, Morgan complained to him that he hadn't attended any social engagements lately. All the pressure was on Morgan.
Hubert replied directly to Morgan, "I have a wife. So, I should go home after work to spend time with my wife to develop our relationship."
Morgan, "..."
'Excuse!'
'All excuse!'
'You just don't want to go!'
Morgan repeatedly complained to himself about his boss, 'Hubert has become more and more indolent since he got married. He is not like himself anymore.'
Hubert could not hear Morgan's silent complaints. When he got to Watenll City School, he saw many students in Teresa's bookstore. Some were reading papers, while some were picking out stationery.
Considering that his aura was overly strong, Hubert did not enter the store directly. He didn't want to scare those students away and affect Teresa's business.
Teresa said he looked stricter than the principal. She said he should be a teacher, or it was a waste of his stern look.
After a while, when it was time for the evening class, the students returned to school one after another.
Hubert got out of the car and walked into the store.
Teresa was tidying the slightly messy cash register when she saw Hubert enter. She was a little surprised to see him. Seeing him walk in, she sighed again at his strong aura.
He was exactly like a king. No wonder students were afraid to come in when they saw him in the store. His aura was so strong that everyone around him would feel suffocated.
In an instant, Hubert stood opposite Teresa. Seeing her looking at him like a girl madly in love, Hubert was quite pleased. He knew his appearance was outstanding.
However, he didn't show his real mood. He just coughed lightly.
Teresa came back to her senses and laughed, "Don't you have to work overtime tonight? Why are you free to come over at this moment?"
When they had just gotten married, he usually came back home at midnight.
Hubert made up an explanation and said in a low voice, "I've finished the project that I was working on earlier. So, I don't have to work overtime these days."
Teresa said, "Oh. Well, you haven't eaten your dinner yet, right? Do you need me to order a take-out for you?"
Before Hubert could answer, Gwendolyn came over and said, "Teresa, why don't you and Mr. Donovan go home? I'll stay in the store. And there's not much business to do here at night."
After the evening class, students had very little free time. Few students would come to the bookstore unless they were looking for some specific books for their studies.
"Okay then, we'll go back."
Teresa didn't act pretentious. After she cleaned up, she took the fortune tree she had knitted today out from the bottom of the cash register. She passed it to Hubert and said, "This is the fortune tree I made for you today. The fortune cat is not finished yet. So, I might be able to bring it back to you tomorrow night."
Hubert took the fortune tree and felt his fortune tree was a bit larger than Chad's. He was satisfied. And his expression eased a little. He said in a low voice, "Sure!"
"I'm glad that you like it. Let's go."
Teresa walked out of the checkout counter, said goodbye to Gwendolyn, and left the bookstore with her husband.
She wanted to ride her electric bike.
Hubert said in a deep voice, "Take my car."
After a pause, he added, "I'll drive you to the store tomorrow morning."
Since he was so considerate, Teresa left the electric bike in the store and got into Hubert's car.
Seeing the couple off, Gwendolyn muttered to herself, "They are really becoming a couple."
Hubert was always aloof and quiet. But he treated Teresa very well, which could be found in many details.
'If I can meet a man like Mr. Donovan, I'd be happy to get married right away.' Gwen thought.
Unfortunately, those guys that she had dated were not as good as Mr. Donovan. Those men were tagged as ideal future husbands only because they had an ideal income. However, they were far from ideal.
Mr. Moore, the man she had dated at Violet Cafe last time, even had a crush on Teresa. He privately called the matchmaker to ask about Teresa. And he didn't give up even though he knew that Teresa was married.
Gwendolyn called him directly and scolded him, warning him that if he dared to go to Teresa privately to destroy her marriage, he would be doomed.
Finally, the stuff was over before it got to Teresa. Gwendolyn felt that she actually saved Mr. Moore's life. If he dared to come to Teresa, he would have been beaten up by Teresa. Teresa had practiced freestyle grappling.
"Could you stop at my sister's residence when we are around her community? Let's stop by my sister before we go home."
Teresa habitually made a daily visit to her sister's house.
Hubert answered with a light "emm".
Soon after, the couple arrived at the community where Leila lived.
It was late in the evening. Most people took their children for a walk after dinner. So, it was the busiest time in the neighborhood.
After Hubert parked the car, Teresa got off first. Then she pulled open the car door in the back seat and leaned inside to carry two bags of fruit, which Hubert insisted on buying for Leila.
The couple walked toward the building where Leila lived.
Soon, Teresa noticed that something was wrong. She had lived in her sister's house for three years and was familiar with the people in the neighborhood. But today, everyone was looking at her in a weird way.
"Teresa, are you coming back to visit your sister?"
It was a neighbor downstairs of her sister. She took the initiative to greet Teresa when they met.
"Hello, Mrs. Thompson. How are you? Yeah, I'm back to visit my sister."
Teresa stopped in her tracks and chatted with Mrs. Thompson. She touched the head of Mrs. Thompson's granddaughter, who was holding Mrs. Thompson's hands. And then, Teresa handed the little girl some fruit from the bag. The little girl looked at Mrs. Thompson. Only when Mrs. Thompson gestured for her to take them did she dare to accept them.
"Thank you, Aunt Teresa."
The little girl said thanks politely.
Teresa complimented the little girl on her manners. Then she asked Mrs. Thompson in a low voice, "Mrs. Thompson, when I get out of the car, everyone looks at me strangely. Is there something wrong with me?"
"No, you look the same as always."
Mrs. Thompson laughed, "Don't take it wrong. Oh, I see. They look at you like that, probably because of your sister. You don't know that, do you? Your sister and her husband had a huge fight. Your sister chased Patrick with a kitchen knife for five blocks."
"You know, everyone thought you were a badass. No one expected that Leila would be a tough figure too."
Teresa had lived here for three years. Once, in order to protect her nephew, she had a fight with another family. That family lost to her.
So, she got a name for being a badass in this neighborhood.
"My sister and her husband had a fight?"
Hearing that, Teresa's expression changed. And even Hubert raised his eyebrows.
"We didn't know why. But we knew they had a fight. That day, we all saw that Leila chased Patrick with a kitchen knife. After that, we saw Leila coming back alone. I heard that Patrick was picked up by his family. Leila didn't tell you, probably because she was afraid you would be worried."
