Chapter 29 I'm Not Jealous
"You know nothing!" She had said so because she had ulterior motives.
Chad understood what she meant and said with a smile, "Grandma, are you playing a trick on Hubert again?"
Madam Donovan gave him a sideways glance and said, "Ask one more question, and I'll play a trick on you."
Chad immediately fell silent.
Although he was very sympathetic to Hubert, he decided to shut up to avoid his grandmother from annoying him. It was better to let Hubert endure it alone.
His grandmother was as naughty as a child now and liked to play pranks on her grandchildren the most
At the same time, Teresa closed the door of the bookstore, took the helmet over from Gwendolyn, and put it on. Then she snatched the motorcycle key over and said, "Let me drive!"
Gwendolyn obediently sat in the back, naturally hugged her waist, and said, "Teresa, it would be great if you were a man because I could marry you. If so, I would not have to endure being urged to get married by my mother every day."
"Come on! Don't paw me! Otherwise, I'll throw you off the motorcycle!" Teresa warned before starting the motorcycle. She often passed by Violet Café but had never gone inside because she did not like coffee but preferred tea.
When they arrived, the man was waiting outside the door. He probably wanted to impress Gwendolyn, so he was wearing a suit, leather shoes, and a red and white tie, holding a bouquet of roses.
Gwendolyn walked up to him hand in hand with Teresa and said, "Good evening, are you Mr. Moore?"
Mr. Moore looked Gwendolyn and Teresa up and down, not knowing which one was his blind date tonight.
The matchmaker had sent him a photo, but he had just glanced at it casually. He knew his date was pretty, but he didn't remember what Miss Gaston looked like now. The matchmaker had told him to wait at the door with a bouquet of roses, and she would recognize him.
"Are you Miss Gaston?"
"Yes."
Mr. Moore smiled and led them in. He had booked a table by the window where they could see the street scene outside.
After sitting down, he gave Teresa one more look. After Gwendolyn introduced her to him, he felt it was a pity that she was married. He thought Teresa was more elegant than Gwendolyn. And he had liked her at first glance and thought she was his blind date. But she turned out to be a married woman.
Gwendolyn had come to attend the blind date because she could hardly endure being nagged by her mother anymore. Moreover, the matchmaker was her aunt, so it was hard for her to refuse.
She had no feelings for Mr. Moore at the beginning. After a small talk, she disliked him even more. He worked in the Lisbon Group as a first-line manager, so he thought of himself as a business elite. Although he knew the Gaston family was not poor, he believed they were parvenus who had become rich overnight because of the demolition. So, he looked down on Gwendolyn.
He had a sense of superiority and said that he wanted to go halves if they got married. Hearing this, Teresa kicked Gwendolyn under the table lightly, hinting that this man was not OK.
When he was pouring out words, Gwendolyn interrupted, "Mr. Moore, I'm sorry but I need to go to the lavatory now." And then, she got up and walked away.
She called her aunt in the lavatory and complained a lot. And then, she called her mother and said, "Mom, if you force me to have a blind date with such weird men again, I will shave my head and become a nun."
He was just working in the Lisbon Group, but he was so arrogant as if he were the president.
Maybe the president of the Lisbon Group was more modest than him.
Teresa didn't like Mr. Moore either. After Gwendolyn went to the lavatory, she looked out the window in silence because she didn't want to talk to him.
Suddenly, Hubert came in.
He was used to looking around everywhere he went, and this time was no exception. But he had not expected to see his wife having coffee with a strange man.
Was she cheating on him?
He had made her sign the agreement last night. Maybe after she found the benefits she could get from him were very limited, she became in a hurry to find another husband before he filed for a divorce.
When Hubert was about to walk over, Gwendolyn came out of the lavatory and said something to the man. And then, she took Teresa's hand and intended to leave.
"Miss Gaston, please sit down. Let's continue to chat."
Mr. Moore wanted to go on to show his superiority, so he did not want Gwendolyn to leave.
"Mr. Moore, I'm sorry, but I don't think we're suitable. We don't need to see each other again," Gwendolyn directly said and walked outward hand in hand with Teresa.
Suddenly, Teresa stopped her steps.
"Teresa, what's wrong?"
"My husband."
"What?"
Before Gwendolyn realized what had happened, Hubert walked up to them. He stared at Teresa with a deep look in his dark eyes with a sneer. He didn't say a word, but she felt he was mocking her in his heart.
But why?
Teresa turned her head to glance at Mr. Moore who was chasing them and immediately understood what Hubert meant. So, she explained, "My friend Gwen came to have a blind date, and I am accompanying her."
It turned out she was not in a hurry to find another husband.
Hubert remained silent.
Gwendolyn finally met Teresa's flash-marriage husband and thought he was cool and handsome!
She was afraid he would misunderstand Teresa, so she helped explained.
Hearing her words, Hubert said coldly to Teresa, "Go home early."
Teresa nodded and asked, "Why are you here?"
"Grandma likes the snacks here and asked me to buy some."
Hubert had realized his grandmother had done it on purpose. She knew Teresa was going to accompany her friend to attend a blind date here, so she had deliberately asked him to come here to buy snacks.
Maybe she thought he would be jealous when he saw Teresa having coffee with another man.
"I see," Teresa said, and then, they both fell silent.
In the end, she broke the ice and said, "I'll go home first. You go to send the snacks to grandma first. I'll not lock the door."
Hubert responded coldly, "Okay."
Then, they separated.
Teresa left on Gwendolyn's motorcycle, while Hubert left Violet Cafe in his Chevrolet after buying the snacks and drove back to Donovan Manor.
Madam Donovan hadn't gone to bed yet and was boringly watching TV in the living room.
Carrying the packaged snacks, Hubert strode over, put them on the coffee table, stood up straight, and said coldly, "Grandma, you promised you will not interfere in my life anymore as long as I marry Teresa."
"I didn't interfere." Madam Donovan put on an innocent look.
Hubert pointed to the snack boxes and said, "You asked me to go to Violet Cafe to buy snacks because you want me to see her having coffee with another man. Grandma, I've not been jealous before, and I will never feel jealous in the future!"
Then, he turned around and walked out.
Madam Donovan shouted, "It's too late now! Why don't you sleep here tonight?"
"My wife is waiting for me," Hubert replied coldly.
Staring after him for a while, Madam Donovan muttered, "You will never feel jealous? Let's wait and see!"
