Chapter 9
"Shit! Isn't that Betty's fiance? Ryan Brook, right? Oh god! Get closer and let me look at that girl more carefully!" Bonnie's gossipy nature awakened. "She's the supporting actress in the hit drama recently. What a scum Ryan is! He has just engaged, and he is cheating. How can he have an affair?"
When it came to gossip, Bonnie was always excited, even though she hadn't slept in two days. Diana thought from the bottom of her heart that Bonnie was born to be a paparazzi who was always on the front line.
Diana turned down the volume of her headphones, only by which could she stand Bonnie's constant babbling.
After hearing thirty seconds of Bonnie's introduction to that girl's skeletons in the closet and feeling Bonnie still had no intention to stop, Diana adjusted her sunglasses and said in a low voice to interrupt Bonnie, "It's enough. Why do you know so much about a D-list actress? Are you going to write a biography for her?"
Diana stared at the camera, which was recording Ryan and that actress walking into the elevator intimately hand in hand, and made a screenshot when their faces were caught by the camera.
Bonnie could not help reminding, "Follow them! See which place they live in."
"Are you insane? It's not my husband cheating."
Diana didn't want to do such a wretched thing as tracking.
She titled her head a little bit, adjusted her sunglasses, and went shopping as if nothing had ever happened.
Went shopping alone was quite boring actually, so she just bought three purses, a pair of shoes, and a coat. Then, she went to the crew and visited Bonnie, and they had lunch together.
At noon, she went back to the hotel for a rest, waiting for someone from the cooperative party to take her to the Haute Couture Workshop to try on the dress.
When Diana woke up from the break, she was in a good mood at the thought of her new dress, so much so that she was singing in her head when she left the hotel.
She was about to leave the hotel, when someone shouted behind her, "Diana?"
Diana felt the voice familiar, so she turned around, only to see Betty wearing a pink dress and a beret-Betty , gracefully standing in the lounge with a hotel waiter carrying her luggage.
Diana paused for a moment and then slowly took off her sunglasses.
Betty was satisfied with Diana's reaction. Although she disliked Diana very much, she appreciated Diana's taste.
She might think I looked gorgeous so she was distracted just now.
At the moment, Betty was a little smug.
"Why are you here?" Asked Diana.
Betty thought Diana was ridiculing her for not being invited, and she subconsciously said, "What? You don't own this place."
After that, Betty was silent for three seconds.
She recalled that the hotel had been acquired by Lux Hotel Group last year, which meant that the hotel was truly under the Swift family.
She quickly added, "B City is not the back garden of your family. Mind your own business, Miss Swift. Ryan is on a business trip in this city. I came to give him a surprise. Isn't that okay?"
At the mention of Ryan, her fiance, Betty straightened up her body.
"Surprise?"
Diana didn't know how to react.
"Yes. Ryan has told me the address. He's not like Mr. Hunter, whose whereabouts are always unknown all the year."
Seeing Betty's childish complacency, Diana was speechless and felt somewhat pity for Betty.
In fact, Betty was not from P City. Her dad was a capable man. He took advantage of government policy on compensating relocated households or units in a small coastal city, and became a tycoon in the catering industry. He had made a lot of money. Additionally, her father was ambitious. A few years ago, the whole Miller family moved to P City and engaged with the Brook family with their great fortune.
The Brook family had once been a prominent family. But due to bad luck and unpromising generations its clout had been fading away.
The engagement between the Brook family and the Miller was a typical combination of the New Money and the Old Money.
The affair was common in such a marriage, and there was nothing to blame. Although Diana had witnessed it, she planned to ignore it, nor would she mention it to the person involved. She would only possibly gossip about it with her friends at some leisure time.
But the problem was Betty was so serious about her relationship with Ryan. She had fallen for him at the first glance of him.
In fact, the Brook family was just one of the many options of the Miller family. Were it not for Betty loving Ryan, the Miller family didn't have to choose the downfall Brook family.
Diana's abnormal silence and the trace of pity in her eyes made Betty feel a chill in the back. Betty walked slowly to the front desk and peeped back at Diana at the same time.
Just as Diana was hesitating whether to remind Betty of the affair, she heard Betty shout incredibly, "Ryan!"
Diana thought,
Well.
I don't have to do that now.
Not far away, Ryan and that D-list actress, leaning on each other, came out of the elevator. They were dressed differently from the morning.
Diana was no longer a pure girl, so from their miens, she could tell that they must have ever done it before going out.
Actually, Betty was somewhat good-looking. It was just that her terrible taste made luxuries look fake and cheap. What was worse, compared with Ella's pitiful look, her craziness and intention to make a scene were more unfavorable.
As expected, Ryan soon pulled Ella behind him to protect her and impatiently pushed Betty away.
"Enough! Don't throw your temper here! Look at you, don't you think you're a disgrace?"
"You think I'm a disgrace?"
Betty's on the verge of crying, and drops of tear fell down.
Because of the shoving just now, Betty's beret was a little crooked, her curly hair and clothes were a little messy, and she looked embarrassed.
Bella, seeming to have rehearsed for such an occasion, wore a mask and sunglasses somewhen, hid behind Ryan with a timid look, and said in a low voice, "Ryan... I can't be filmed by others."

Ryan patted Bella in the hand to comfort her, then turned to frown at Betty. His attitude towards Betty was very impatient, and so was his tone. "Let's talk about our business when we return home, okay? But if you want to continue to make a scene and disgrace yourself, do it. Just don't drag me in."
Betty was stunned, not believing that her gentle and attentive fiance would change into a completely different person and treat her like this.
Ryan covered Bella as they walked all the way out. And Bella bumped Betty on the shoulder, which seemed to be an act of purpose.
Diana couldn't stand it anymore. Standing not far away, she suddenly sneered. "How funny! The scumbag and the mistress caught on the spot didn't feel ashamed, but the fiancee who found the affair was considered disgraced." Although her voice was not loud, it was enough for everyone present to hear.
Only then did Ryan notice Diana, his face gloomy. He wanted to tell Diana not to meddle in his own business. But at the thought of the relationship between the Swift family and the Hunter family, So they address me this way privately.
"Don't you feel awkward? People in this place don't speak Chinese. I'd love to interpret what is happening right now to embarrass you more."
Glancing at the couple set watch on Ryan's wrist, Diana continued to mock Ryan, "Your all outfits were sent by your fiancee. How can you judge her like the justice is on your side?"
Ryan, "You!"
Ryan was embarrassed. Bella was considerate that she pretended to muster her courage to take all the consequences herself and stood forward to bow at Diana. "Miss Miller, I'm really sorry. It's all my fault. Let's find another place to talk about this thing, okay? Don't..."
Bella wanted to pull Betty but was blocked and interrupted by Diana. "Who do you think you are? Get out of the way." Diana gazed at Ryan again.
What Diana wanted was obvious--an apology from Ryan.
Ryan was filled with anger but had no outlet. He held his forehead, gritted his teeth, and finally nodded in helpless rage, saying, "Fine, it's my fault. I'm a disgrace. I'll visit Uncle Miller and give him an explanation of this matter after returning home. I have shit to do now. I have to go."
Diana looked at Ryan with indifference but didn't stop him.
Ryan even wasn't willing to coax Betty in this case, which meant it wouldn't make any difference even if Diana kept him stay.
Diana turned back and walked over to Betty.
But before she could say anything, Betty cried and said angrily, "Save your hypocrisy. I know you must be gloating over my embarrassment. But your husband will not be better than mine. No man is good. "
Diana was speechless for a moment.
"Well, it's none of your business whether my husband is a good man."
The person Diana hated most was the persecutory paranoid like Betty. She had wanted to comfort Betty at first, but she didn't have to now. Indifferently, she wore her sunglasses and walked away with clacks of the heels.
--
Betty's words didn't affect Diana's mood to try on the new dress at all.
Diana had tried on the proto-sample of this Haze Blue Lace Dress before. After that, the dressmaker made further adjustments according to her body shape, which meant the dress was custom-made for Diana. Now Diana was satisfied with her look in this dress.
Diana asked someone to shoot a short video of her, and she sent it to Bonnie.
But Bonnie seemed to be busy with something that she hadn't replied to Diana for a long while.
On a whim, Diana applied a fresh filter to the video and sent it to Josh.
And she added, "How is my new dress?"
At the time, it was dusk. The sky dimmed, and neon lights by the roadside gradually lit up.
Josh had just finished the meeting when he took the mobile phone handed by Sam and glanced at it.
There were lots of unread messages, the first few of which were the consumption reminders of the credit card and the last of which was the message from Diana.
Josh had little contact with Diana. Even in emergencies, they always contacted each other by phone call. It was rare for Diana to message Josh on WhatsApp.
He released his tie and clicked the video.
The video was very short, only ten seconds or so, in which Diana carried the dress, turned around twice, and finally made a wink.
But he watched it once, replayed it, and then replayed it again.
Sam was following Josh. When he found Josh was watching a video over and over again, he was curious, but he didn't dare to peek at the video.
It was not until Josh returned to his office did he stop replaying the video.
Looking at the question sent by Diana, Josh simply replied, "It's beautiful." No one knew whether it was genuine praise or just perfunctory of Josh.
Seeing that Josh wasn't argumentative as he usually was, Diana was in a good mood. She asked him with interest, "Is this the 'sexy but fresh, bitchy but a little extravagant' style?"
Josh sighed silently. He checked the bill and corrected, "I don't think it's just a little extravagant."
A dress worth hundreds of thousands of Euros is far beyond a little extravagant!
Josh looked up at Sam and asked, "When did Diana arrive at B City?"
Sam paused for a while and said, "Five o'clock this morning."
Then he spontaneously reported Diana's itineraries in the next few days, which included some show attendances and the appointments with the executives like lunch, afternoon tea, dinner, etc.
However, Josh didn't seem to listen carefully. When Sam finished reporting, he commented in an indifferent tone, "She's quite busy."
Sam kept his head low and, wisely, didn't make a response.
On the other side, Diana was very happy.
Narcissistic, she regarded Josh's "I don't think it's just a little extravagant" as praise and planned to buy a collar clip for Josh in return.
Just then, with dings, she received many messages on WhatsApp.
As expected, they were the commends from Bonnie.
"What a beautiful fairy falling from heaven!"
"Not the dress is custom-made, but you're."
"I'm so fancied by your beautiful canary-like look. The money spent is worth it!"
"How much money do I need to make so I can take you away from Josh, that god damned man?!"
Compared with Bonnie's praise, Josh's comment was dull indeed.
Diana screenshotted Bonnie's messages and sent the screenshot to Josh, wanting him to learn how to comment in the correct way.
When Josh received the picture, however, his gaze fell on the last "god damned man".
So they address me in this way privately.
